apparently steve WAS just a recurring background character until toh got shortened. there was gonna be a different side character, but since they didn't have much time, and seeing how much people liked steve, they just made it steve. that's literally the only reason (as far as i'm aware of) that was the only good thing that came out from disney shortening the owl house.
he gonna die, he's liked by fans but still just a supporting character with no real overall story relevance. itll be a quick and easy way to raise the stories stakes and make a huge impact on the audience and characters and make them develop and make the final fight more dramatic. if he dont die im gonna be real confuzulled

What I love so much about steve is the implication that despite what we ever see him do, he has to be a badass. Remember, only top tier witches get into the emperors coven, but even so, steve never let it get over his head. He remains chill wherever he is and always has a positive outlook. When he decides he is unsatisfied with his life, he decides to do something about it. I imagine it can't be that easy to just quit a job at the coven. Steve doesn't ever stop hoping, and he can find himself in any situation he is. No matter where he is, he is always steve.Which is why having his named on his shirt like that is amazing, as well as why he was the perfect person for king in his situation. King went through several identity crises and right after receiving the possibly biggest revelation about himself yet, some people view him differently, he isn't even sure what to think about himself, who is he? Well, just like Steve will always be Steve, King will always be King no matter what. Be like Steve.

Then after that he finally admits to king that he doesn't need the coven anymore, just happy to be himself, and wants to move on to a different path. Then proceeds to take off his mask the final piece that’s tying him to the coven.

I made an owl house oc before his face reveal and my oc dad was a demon, and their mom was a witch and sisters with Mattholomule's mom. Then Steve was revealed to be half-brothers with Mattholomule, it just fit too well and was such a coincidence. My oc's mom was also in the emperor coven, at one point. (Just wanted to share, sorry)
