There was actually a bit of drama around the pt cruiser car where someone turned off the GPS tracking on it and was trying to drive it back to her state
Now that sounds more likely than jumping it into a lake or off a cliff or some other dumb nonsense. The fact somebody would figure out a way to turn off the GPS shows they had serious intent.
I remember this. It was a girl that claimed she did it "for her safety" in using the car.

As far as this type of stuff goes, it seems mostly harmless. It also seemed like a mix of stuff for rich assholes to blow their money on and brag about as well as fun little things everyone can get involved with and maybe win a prize.
And honestly between maybe winning some money and Rich douchebags throwing their money down a rathole it's win-win.

Well, according to a couple people here in the comments that's not entirely true.
One comment said that a woman disabled the GPS and tried to drive it to another state. And another said that the car was both "dead" and "stuck".
Honestly, compared to a lot of this hypebeast crap this actually seems really fun. It's not meant to be taken seriously it's meant to be ridiculous and it does exactly what it sets out to do.

12:50 You joke about that, yet, at least with Google Assistant, even when my dad or I didn't say "OK Google" while we were talking together, his phone's Google Assistant randomly gave us a search result about a topic of what we had been talking about. This has happened on several occasions for a ton of people, too. Not only that, but I swear it often happened to me that, even though I don't use Google Assistant myself, oftentimes I would surf the web and see random ads for things that I had recently been talking about, or even CZcams videos in the "Recommended" area about stuff I talked about. So, call me paranoid or whatever, but I am 100% certain that Alexa would still be listening in on your conversations even when muted, at best, it just wouldn't respond to anything being said, at worst, it would give you responses sometime later just completely randomly.
Honestly if you have anything like an Alexa in your house you may as well have a spy in your house.
It's only paranoia if there isn't obvious proof that it is exactly what it seems to be.
We've already seen that proven because Amazon also owns ring video doorbell cameras.

Here's how I do my taxes each year in Norway where I live:
Login to my social welfare page (because that's where I get my money as I don't work) and find the "Taxation percentage" page
Then I choose a taxation percentage that is a little higher than it was previously set at,
Now I logoff, and I am done.
Don't have to do anything else for the taxes, cause the tax office handles pretty much absolutely everything for us.
So that taxation game would be worthless for me xD

Unfortunately, I had discovered MSCHF within one or two days of the launch of their mystery box, so of course, they were already sold out. That is unfortunate, because it would have been a decent investment for me. I would have chosen to just hold onto the box, only to return it at the appropriate time to maximize my return on investment. I would have had practically zero temptation to open my box. It would have been easy money for me!!! As Austin stated, this is a no-brainer . . . return the box unopened and receive a guaranteed return on it, or take a huge risk by opening it, in the hopes of winning one of the few prizes that would have had a greater value than what one would receive by returning the unopened box.
One element Austin and Matt failed to mention was that MSCHF had a list of all the "prizes" that were sent out in these boxes, including the quantity of each prize available. This list would be updated whenever a participant would open their box, and claim their prize. This way, the list would serve as a further temptation to some participants, making it all that much more difficult for many to successfully wait out the time for maximum return on their investment, while not giving in to temptation to open the box . . . partly out of gambling greed to potentially win a more valuable prize, and partially directly derived from plain, old curiosity. The list being consistently updated with the quantity of each unclaimed prize would simply be far too much for some to handle. This was designed to be a further temptation to the players, hence making it that much more difficult to hold out and return the box unopened.
I believe the most valued prized was somewhere around $25k! However, I wouldn't care if there were only two unclaimed prizes left, and one was the top prize . . . as long as that remaining second prize wasn't valued more than what I was guaranteed to win by returning my unopened box, I would not risk it. I would have no problem going with the sure win, rather than gambling it away. Unfortunately, I was a day late, and a dollar short.
The only thing I have ever gambled on consistently is myself, and that has always been, and will continue to be, wagering on my skill in billiards against other players. Whenever I enter a pool hall, I consider the money which I have on me, outside of the potential cost of table time, in addition to food, and drinks, to already be gone. If I go with $120 in my pocket, and I set aside $20 for table time, food, and drinks, then I picture the remaining $100 as nonexistent, like it was never there . . . for it could actually turn out to be the exact equivalence of such a condition. That way, if I can not afford to lose that money, then I don't take the chance of gambling it away . . . because you can't, and you won't win them all . . . even if you only gamble on yourself, because most players would rather be lucky any day of the week than to be highly skilled. Often, skill will not triumph over luck, and with just enough luck, anyone could beat any other player. Luck can beat Efren Reyes, not consistently, not even often, but it still has the potential, and once in a blue moon, it will even reign supreme over Efren!
Lew, from Unbox Therapy, received one of these boxes from MSCHF, to unbox in a video. I believe he received it as a promotional item of which he did not pay for. So naturally, with no money on the line, and having a channel titled "Unbox Therapy", he went ahead and opened the box. Any guesses as to the quality of prize his box contained? He actually came out pretty good, even if he had paid for the box. He won one of the top line DJI drones. I mean, I would be incredibly satisfied with winning such a prize, but it would never happen, because I would never be tempted enough to open my box. I couldn't help but wonder if MSCHF had knowingly sent him the drone intentionally as further temptation for the participants when seeing how easy it was to win a decent prize, or if Lew just managed to have luck on his side that day.
Typically, when it came to billiards, I would usually come out on top, but there were plenty of times where I had lost all of the greenback I was carrying on me. Thus, I developed a highly useful manner of perspective to keep me out of any gambling problems. I would always imagine any money I was willing to gamble with as being already lost, and I would ask myself, "Am I okay with losing this money?" Of course, I'm not okay with losing that money, or any money for that matter, so allow me to rephrase that question. "Will I be okay if the forces that be should see to it that I shall lose all of this money?", and if I wasn't completely aware that I would be okay, then I simply would not gamble with it. This is how, and partly why, billiards is the only thing I will gamble upon, and only when it's gambling on me. When you gamble on yourself, then you know what you are capable of performing, and you only have yourself to blame if you lose . . . except for those instances of somebody else's dumb luck.
One other note about gambling. I have worked at a few convenience stores in a couple of different states, and there were always the addicts, what with the selling of nicotine, ephedrine, alcohol, even caffeine, and of course lottery tickets, and scratchers/instant win tickets. I assume that it was partially the inexpensive ticket price that made it so easy for some to develop an addiction to that form of gambling. It was but a mere dollar or two, here and there, no real harm as they would believe, but then it would grow and grow to more and more tickets eventually becoming $20 a day during their stop at the store after work, then it would be $20 twice a day, before and after work. Then on to $50, and so forth. One of the biggest addicts I had at one convenience store was a middle-aged lady who worked as a Black Jack dealer on the riverboat casino, go figure! These tickets would come to the store in rolls of 300 tickets, on the back, the odds of winning were clearly marked, typically about 1 in 5 back in those days. I had the number of winning tickets for each scratch off game pretty much memorized because they were all so similar, at least all of the $1 tickets were compared to other $1 tickets, same for the $2 tickets, and even the $5 tickets. For example, and this is a rough estimate from what I can recall, but each 300 ticket roll would have around 20 free tickets winners, maybe 15 $1 winners, 10 $2 winners, 5 $5 dollar winners, 5 $10 winners, 2 $20 winners, and 1 $40 (or $50) winner. The breakdown would be something similar to that example, except you also had the big prizes which would rare winners and not guaranteed to be in every roll. The highest winning amount basically guaranteed in any of the 300 ticket rolls of $1 tickets would be either a $40 prize or a $50 dollar prize, and there would be exactly one per roll. So, that is 58 winners out of 300, just two winning tickets shy of having the winning odds be 1 in 5, while the total winning prize payout from a roll netting the store $300 in sales, in this case, would be about $200, which is much more than I remember, so my example must be rather off. However, I can definitely vouch for there being only one of the $40 or $50 winners in a roll, and typically two of the $20 winners, the rest is rather fuzzy after so much time. However, watching these people spend so much of their money, to eventually win $40 or $50 was sad, mostly because it would bring them so much joy for winning $40 after spending $60, they simply could not see that they were losing more money than winning. I have only seen a bigger winner twice, I believe, and that would have a devastating effect upon the addicts because they could never fathom how much money they had lost to win that $500 or whatever it was. Thus, they would falsely believe that they were up on the system for quite some time from that big win, when they were actually still under. Most would not take the tickets with them to play later, rather they needed to get their fix immediately, and they would play right there at my cash register. So, in watching these addicts play over and over, I could usually sense when a certain scratch off game was due to hit, and this twisted the odds in my favor. I wouldn't play as often as the addicts, let alone spend as much money, but I would be a more frequent winner than they ever were . . . and once in a while, I would find winning tickets atop of the ashtray/garbage cans where the addicts would typically dispose of lines of multiple untorn tickets. I didn't even have to read the rules of the game, I would just scratch off the entire ticket, and examine the code which was a three letter code: TKT = free ticket, ONE = $1, TWO = $2, FVE = $5, TEN = $10, TWY= $20, FRY = $40, FFY = $50. Fairly simple, right? I always double checked the tickets against the rules of the game to be sure, but also to be sure it wasn't a big winner, for the one big winner where I had seen the code, it was not logical like the previous examples, something akin to the likes of GJZ being a code for a $200 winner. Eventually, I would come to view these state scratcher/instant tickets, and the lottery tickets as being nothing more than a basic idiot tax, which I no longer pay. However, after moving to Arizona, and buying scratchers for the first time, I had won $50 off of a $5 ticket, and I believe $10 off a $1 ticket, I returned to claim my money, and got two more tickets, where I won an addition $20. I took my money, and said thank you, Arizona, I have beaten you, even if it was only around $68, that is still a positive $68!!! And in the nearly 30 years since, I have not once purchase another lottery ticket of any kind in Arizona, or any other state!!! I beat the system . . . at least in regards to Arizona's, so I find contentment in that achievement, and I remain a winner!!!
