As a wise man once said: "Piracy is almost always a service issue, not a pricing problem." Gabe was 100% right at least for me. I stopped pirating for probably 15 years until the services I paid for got continually worse and yet somehow the prices just went up.
Definitely not the case these days, especially with the cost of living it's nice to be able to have some type of fun even if it's not official 😏
Plus what has been shown is we may not even be getting the full product we are paying these services for.
LTT recently talked about how some people are going back out to buy DVD's because the streaming service crops the show to fit wide-screen which in of itself isn't a problem, but you don't get the full effect of the visual gag that is going on.
Or the one I really don't here people talking about much is like what happened with stranger things where netflix went and changed up a fee episodes, so if you really liked a show and wanted to rewatch it later it might not even be the same thing you initially watched.
* if anyone is wondering ( the main thing to my knowledge) they changed a scene where Will ( not that big a fan, so might get some names wrong) ( the older brother) is spying on Nancy from the forest where he then notices her friend get taken by the demigorgon. Don't remember what they changed it too, but they tried to make him look less creepy / stalkerish lol.
or they hid the stuff you WANTED to see behind a paywall. Like, my brother and I love certain movies. The Last Starfighter was ONLY available if you "rented" it
Did you just call our lord and savior Gabe Newell just a man ?
I wouldnt spend a single penny on something I can get for free!
I’m a SAG actor (16 years) and if you pirate a made-for-new-media show, it doesn’t really hurt us, WGA, or DGA, because the residuals are absolute clown shoes. Contribute your “subscription fees” to projects on Seed & Spark or other indie funding platforms. Pirate all you want from the big boys and don’t give WB, Netflix, Comcast, or Netflix your money. Just don’t pirate independent productions.
Heck, "hollywood accounting" means the show or movie NEVER makes money. You need to get a % of the gross to make money.
Also, all the people they say it "hurts" usually got paid during filming. I know, if I were a camera man or sound engineer, I'd want my pay before you drop it in theaters
As a a crew member i don't get residuals but I support independents
I'm glad you posted here. It's a myth that the guys who actually make money want to perpetuate, which is that you are hurting your favorite artists when you pirate. Most people are already paid upfront or as part of the creation process. Even Matt and Austin sort of perpetuate this in the video, but at least they do it from the point of view of studios closing. "You are stealing from your favorite artist when downloading their song illegally!" No, they usually get advances and then make peanuts on sales. The boardroom guys make the money on the sales. That's why bands typically have to tour to make more money. The only artists that complain are those who were smart enough to make their own publishing or production companies because it hurts them then.
Alright guys we have the permission lesgooooooooo
You forgot the big evil. Disney.
If buying isn't owning, than pirating isn't stealing
One of the most beautiful words ever spoken
i had a friend who did some "pirating" back in the day. he would watch new movies and if he liked them he would buy it at the store when it came out. he passed 2 years ago. i really miss him
I stopped sailing the high seas for years. Streaming made it pointless. Now, it's the best choice to watch what you want to watch again.
All this video did was remind me to cancel some of my subscriptions. So thanks guys for saving me some money 🙏
Literally cannot play Ghost of Tsushima, God of War: Ragnarok, or Until Dawn on PC without pirating in my country (and 177 other countries and territories). For no reason.
Nothing wrong with piracy, I was talking to a guy from Mexico who said his parcels arrived empty when he buys games and DVDs online. I don't see anything wrong with it.
@@ffviifakeremake9997The problem is that Steam is a far better service than piracy. I WANT the updates. I want cloud syncing. I want online and leaderboards. I want achievements. So I'm just not gonna bother with the game at all because I can't have those things if I pirate. Sony is throwing money away here for literally no reason. Its unprecedented in the history of Steam.
This is why I've been rebuilding my movie and TV show collection, can't segregate my shows after I own them on disc lol
Owning them on disc also means they can't stop you from watching your content
I don't miss having to worry about damages over time and having an entire area dedicated to storing physical content, but it's always cool going through someone's collection when people do still collect.
Me too, getting to the point where buying dvds are going to be worth it again. At least until the increase the price to a god like amount
And you wont need wifi
@@StevenCutcherSTCUTCHER that's why they are just now trying to phase out dvds. many movies and shows are never released on physical media, only streaming or drm restricted purchase. they want to be able to take away anything they don't want you to see anymore or that they want you to pay for again.
I buy star trek DVDs whenever I can because of how often it keeps moving. Eventually when I have all the shows and movies I won't have to stream for trek anymore.
Same, then I upscale them to 4K
What's worse: There is no way, most of the time, to purchase these things a la carte on a show-by-show or production-by-production basis. You used to be able to get any major television show or movie on VHS, DVD, or Blu-Ray. Now, you're LUCKY if one of the major studios releases a physical or purchasable version of their content. I've dropped most streaming services and have moved back to purchasing shows and movies on disc. That way I control what I watch, I don't have to worry about shows or movies changing syndication studios and moving platforms, and I don't have to worry about things being censored or altered after the fact.
Only problem is that it does take up space and so much content isn't available in that format at all. And, it's a hassle compared to just subscribing to something. I can see why general consumers will either pirate or just suck it up and deal with the nonsense that is streaming.
I HATE to bring this boomery chestnut up, but we really are heading in a "you will own nothing and like it" direction in media consumption lately, and it's worrisome.
Its not just that. Often what you stream isnt actually the 'full thing' anymore. Edits are made, stuff gets cut out etc. not to mention the quality of the content. You HAVE to sail the seas for the best experience currently. AND you get to keep that forever, they can't really take it away from you whenever they choose to do so.
Offer me movies in actual 4k,. directors cuts, extended editions etc etc and we can talk a subscription fee. But dont try and sell me on 720p/1080p content under the 4k umbrella with episodes missing for w/e reason.
all these streaming services managed to come with up cable TV.

Wait, what's the name of this song? where can I find it
I still have all my DVDs/Blu-rays because you never know when any service will just stop showing them on streaming. Everything else I get with an antenna. 80 OTA channels free is not that bad.
I don't get that many in my area, but yeah OTA TV(lets just hope they don't screw it up with ATSC 3.0 DRM) is a great thing with channels like MeTV launching a MeTV Toons channel soon, and they might be expanding out their MeTV+ channel as well at some point. Also there are so many free steaming services to supplement our physical movie collections there is almost no reason to pay unless it's a very specific show you want to see, or you're someone like me with a family that likes sports.
This episode has totally refreshed my childhood. The nostalgia receptors are going crazy remembering the 90's. Thanks for this one guys!
The only reason I still Have DirecTV stream is to be able to record my NFL games so I do not have to be home when the game starts.
Piracy never left, guys.
yeah only idiots fall for the streaming services haha
hypothetically speaking..... stremio + the Torrentio extension would be a pretty cool thing
**checks calendar** Did it ever leave?
Well, the companies have stopped speaking about it
X-Men 97 is a Disney+ original that just finished airing.
What i got from this video is that Matt and Austin haven't watched X-Men '97 and they need to remedy that IMMEDIATELY. Second best Disney+ show. Just behind Andor, and just above The Beatles: Get Back.
Netflix doesn’t make any money, it’s debt is larger than some countries 😂😂
That is a "Netflix" problem. Though, i bet they still pay out a dividend and bonuses to the officers
Netflix's market cap is over $250B.
@@JamesSmith-sw3nkmarket cap≠profits
I’m definitely guilty of binge watching all seasons of my favorite shows several times a year
Cable TV subscriptions here in Mexico have been doing this for a couple of years now, offering up to 6 streaming services for a reduced cost 😅😅
If you have an old computer and $130 you can make a relatively future proof streaming server of your own. Ive got an old i5-6500k paired with an intel Arc A380 GPU(the $130 cost) and I can comfortably have four 4k streams running simultaneously. Storage will always be the expensive part depending on how much content you want to make available to yourself. But even still in the long run buying 14TB hard drives will still be more cost effective than having 10 streaming services.
where do you get your stuff from? like the shows and all? i have never found a reliable source.
Or just use streamio
@@d3stiny117 Mostly public torrent sites like ThePirateBay, kickasstorrents, and one private torrent site called IPTorrents.
I went a bit overkill with the file management system. I use Radarr, Sonarr, and jackett for movie management, TV management, and torrent tracking management. But the software(radarr, sonarr, jackett) are all free and open sourced projects that can run on something like a raspberry pi. And it removes the need for you to manually select and download torrents as well as organizing the files once they have been downloaded.
That 2nd to last episode of Young Sheldon finale gave you feels.
Been sailing the high sea for anime for a while now.
a return to physical media plus plex/jellyfin when possible for me
I definitely appreciate the flexibility of options still present over cable, but it’s becoming a new paralysis of choice ala cable. Then there’s things that I feel locked into like Spotify because I have so many playlists set up I don’t want to recreate that on Google’s crappy CZcams Music app
I watch youtube for 99% of my entertainment because even with medication I don't have the attention span to watch a 28 minute show lol.
My Plex server paired with a 4 gigabit fiber connection rivals all the streaming services,, got a lot of friends and family cancelling their services for my Plex, and that’s pretty gratifying.
This the problem, despite subscribing to Netflix and Prime type of services, I still have to pirate content. Eventually a time comes when I'll just not bother with any subscription services, because the convenience of having these streaming services gets outweighed by cost of maintaining them and lack of content on each such service.
Plex/Jellyfin FTW!
I have plex
Austin over here paying double what my phone bill is😂😂
John and Kate plus 8 cinematic universe!’😂😂😂
Streaming is going to get a lot more weird before it's said and done. Comcast and Charter(Spectrum) teamed up to make Xumo.
I am chomping at the bit to cancel my TV service. It is hundreds of channels of pure crap.
I took note of you guys mentioning binge watching and actors getting a tiny piece but how many series are there out there that 5-10-15 years old that people want to binge watch? How many times should Hollywood be paid for something that has already been paid for numerous times?
new issues of Dark claw can't wait
You guys are missing out on X-Men ‘97
I’ve only hypothetically pirated a couple movies but in my defense if I did that it is because I went and saw the movie paid for a ticket wanted to watch it again so hypothetically I pirate it but then if it is a good movie I buy it as soon as it goes vod so it is bad but not as bad right?
There are shows that streaming services take off and make them not available then the only option is pirating. my Wife loves this show called One Night that paramount plus released. She wanted to rewatch it with her mother but it suddenly wasn't on a streaming service or I couldn't buy it digitally or physically.
I never go to a pirate website.... Until I first check to see if the show I want want to watch is on one of the two streaming services I'm subscribed to
ahoy me hearties tis time to sail again.
I've downloaded so much that there are whole seasons of streaming shows that I haven't watched yet, and quite possibly never watch ever. Several critically-acclaimed theatrical releases, too. Like I only watched Barbie a couple of weeks ago. And I haven't watched Oppenheimer. Nor Civil War.
Comcast currently doesn't allow you to stream the apps unless you have Comcast internet. It's main reason I'm leaving away from them.
That was the same issue with movie pass lol
I didn't know it ever left 🏴☠🏴☠
shouldve mentioned password sharing crackdowns. im someone who doesnt watch many shows or movies, but when i do want to i use my familys accounts. when i want to watch one thing on netflix, now that i cant watch at my own place with my familys account, am i going to go and buy a subscription to watch that ONE THING and then cancel it? hell no
also, without peacock and ESPN+, i dont think i ever would have gotten into football (soccer) as much as i am now.
And technically in the United States it's not Illegal to download stuff. The fbi only goes after the person accused of being the one to originally upload the torrent file to the internet
I don't have to pirate anything cause I just use the firestick that I bought at goodwill that someone already had all the streaming services already logged into
What constitutes a "household" is KEY. We pay ~$100 a month for ~8 paid streaming services, but share them across 8 family members who live in 4 different residences/with 4 Internet connections. If they further restrict account sharing such that our price per family member increases significantly, or they remove certain tent-post content we like, I'm absolutely gonna start pirating again (we don't care about sports really, but prestige TV is a must, plus high-end documentaries/docuseries, and some British and Australian stuff).
I remember seeing this video, I don't remember who posted it, but he set up a vpn server at the house that pays for netflix, then when other locations connect to it, to netflix it looks like they are at home and does not charge extra.
@@lance_374 Yes! I've been considering this, using a routing/network-bridging VPN like Tailscale to allows all our devices to interact with each other and the internet as if they're on the same local network. It does require another subscription and/or an always-on home server, but as you point out, could address the accounts-sharing/household problem presented by e.g. Netflix (currently costing me ~$25, 1/4 of my total monthly family media budget).
One could take this to an extreme, finding the jurisdiction with the lowest combined monthly cost for all content, and base your family network on a server/IP there. There could be a service for that, like those tax evasion/golden passport/e-residency schemes that give elites effective use of advantageous locales for their tax and globe-trotting needs.
I got that reference ;D
You should try to make a video on the Red Magic 9 Pro.
Matt hit on a big point with watching your favorite sport team. You could be paying for all these streaming services and still fall into a blackout spot and not be able to watch them. You should be able to pay to watch your team and that gives you access to whatever streaming platform it's on that day. It's a win-win, you watch your team no matter what, and all the streaming services have you being exposed to their platform and have a chance to get you to sign up on a longer term basis for other things they carry.
This is why downloading/torrenting is still the best, as streaming just glorifies renting, disabling you the ability to rewatch content anywhere anytime.
What package do I get ESPN 28 on?
Honestly the most frutstrating part of every company starting their own streaming services is places like here in the UK lost access to shows on services like Netflix but also aren't able to access the new service that was created so we are left out to dry with no way to get certain shows even with physical media because physical media distrubution is also poor. A good example of this is that King of the Hill is unavailable to watch here in the UK in full as even the DVD's are incomplete.
Even worse, there are some series I loved which were made by a British company, for release on British TV that I can no longer watch in the UK because some US company now owns the rights to it and region locked it. Plus even when we here in the UK are able to sign up to a streaming service, you're never sure exactly what content you'll actually be able to access - because they never tell you what is region locked or not until AFTER you've already signed up - and quite often the most popular shows, which are invariably American, just don't appear at all on the UK version of those Streaming platforms. It sucks!!
Wow, Austin has a great pirate voice.
I stopped pirating for about a decade but I've now returned to it.
peacock also has the entire wwe library, as well as every pay per view shown live, with netflix getting monday night raw in 2025
Yup
How much is the Kyle add-on?
I honestly stick to CZcams on my IPad and if I want to watch a movie there’s free ones here that rotate ❤
At the end of all the positives you need to add
"For now"
shiver me timbers
i signed up to paramount for , the ninja turtles , the knuckles show. keenan and kel and the new Fraser. i hope whatever comcast do it is beneficial to the viewers although that's unlikely, oh and buffy is now on paramount always worth watching .. x
i dont think the comcast stuff affects the uk, i could be wrong but i dont think i need to worry , i have sky
How do you do the eye patch thing? If you get my drift.
Don't even waste your time with torrents. Do you have an android phone?

Ahoooy Matees.
Even Netflix doesn't make money, they might be able to show a profit on their accounts but thats via legal but creative accountancy practices, their cash flow is massively in the red every year. Streaming services just have to buy way too much 3rd party content and also produce way too much original content compared to before and while they may get more for each subscriber than they got in carriage fees for their linear channels on cable they have fewer subscribers and they are harder to rely on month by month so they bring less money in while spending more. They need to be able to share the load better where they don't need to be competing on 3rd party content as much thus not driving the cost up and where they don't each need a new original every month, Disney can have one in Jan, Netflix in Feb, Peacock in March, Max in April and paramount in May and each can still keep their subscribers because they are subscribing to watch something on one of the others
It never left
hypothetically i've been pirating for over 20 years
You know, CZcams has been making a killing die to the death of cable. If these services combine and put ads back for a massive discount video platforms like YT will have reduced revenue. Not massive but enough to notice. The content here wil make this never fail.
Forget CZcams tv and save and just get F1 Tv subscription.
I mostly watch 'free' CZcams and Twitch until the NFL season starts up. Then I check what streamer will give me the biggest chunk of my team's games without being ripped off by CZcams TV for 'the package'. If I miss a few I'm fine with that. I don't care enough to pay a hundred or so dollars a month to see it all.
I do occasionally pay for a month of a service to binge a show I like if one is out. If they try and AGOT me with a staggered release, I'll either binge at the end or skip it if I hear too many spoilers because then I lose interest. I refuse to let a streamer schedule my entertainment time. Football gets the only pass there because I really like it and any spoiler ruins the entire game.
I’m going to pirate a pirate. Arggghhh!
Damn, Austin is back already?
I'm surprised you didn't bring up Godzilla Minus One, only being released in Japan, and being one of the best movies ever made, it's the most pirated piece of content right now
Not anymore thankfully it is now available in the US even minus color
@jasonshapiro6420 hopefully tomorrow, but nothing yet. And some articles are saying Netflix won't have it for US, so we'll see. But still, could've been a topic when mentioning pirating content
So we’re going back to…Cable TV?
Since the late 90's I've been collecting VCDs, & DVDs and now Blu-Rays along with them, so I have the stuff I really really want to want on physical media, & not beholden to a streaming service, and I really only pay for CZcams TV, and Peacock mostly because of Sports, with the of it as a bonus, & and my only other paid is CZcams Premium for no ads on my tablet/phone/TV, etc.. but the moment CZcams TV, and/or Peacock loose the sport I want to see, or they start charing a kidney I will drop them like hot lava with zero regrets as there are plenty of free streaming services, and Antenna TV is still a thing as well. These companies only have themselves to blame.
Let's say I know I want to watch X show. I google it and it says it's supposed to be on X service, but then i look on that service and it's not there. So whether i subscribe or not I can't get what I want to watch. I can't really go rent it anymore because those stores closed so i will end up either finding it on the high seas or just not bothering.
yayo yayo yayo hoho, set sail for one piece, it's the name of the treasure in the grand line, YAYO YAYO SET SAIL 4 ONE PIECE
I love star trek so I sub to Paramount.
We keep our sub even when there are no new treks, and we still watch some stuff on it occasionally. I know it saves them bandwidth for me to not constantly consume content, and i keep my sub going even in times where i havent watched anything for a month. my plan is only 7 bucks.
I carry 3 streamers at once as soon as I go more than a week not opening an app I cancel it and pick something else to replace it. I am fine doing that. I know a lot of people say that is too much work I get it. And I admit I am a simple guy and watch a ton of CZcams
Hello and welcome to Matt's new channel❤.. Austin what are you waiting for?🎉
I've canceled all my subscriptions, from Netflix, Prime, and Spotify to even switching banks to not pay their outrageous fees for them to give me access to my money...
Piracy isn't theft because the content was created for the masses, not specifically for any one individual. The one who "pirates" content would probably never have any intention of purchasing said content, so where is the loss to the content creator? It's not like the downloader is inhibiting the creator from making money, so before these rich studios and greedy billionaires complain their companies are burning money, they should reflect on the fact that THEY CREATED this mess.
I had no issue paying for services when I felt I was getting what I paid for, now I'm paying for all these "add-ons" like HD streaming that I already had before but they change their pricing to squeeze more money out of me, then still being forced to watch ads (Amazon) I've resorted back to the always-free option. It's even better now with high-speed internet! LOL
Screw the elites, we need a shift of wealth!
Piracy never left 🏴☠️
It never left.
GO BILLS
I feel like streaming has been ruined over the past few years. There used to be one, maybe two, streaming services, so paying 10-15 bucks a month was no big deal. Now everyone has their own service, and it's hard to foot the bill of 10-20 dollars per service over, like... ten different ones. And most of them have maybe 1 thing worth watching each since they removed all their stuff from Netflix to prop up their own service. There's probably a lot of piracy that goes on now just out of convenience since you can't watch all you want from one place. Better on the wallet, too. Maybe this Comcast thing will be good, except the purpose of streaming services was to cut the cord at one point.
They will run ads inbetween just like old cable.
So if Sony buys Paramount does that mean they would have the rights for the Halo Tv show?
Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... MASS HYSTERIA!
We got rid of cable years ago just for me to think about getting it again. Streaming is just cable reborn. Also, buying digital movies is a joke too. You own it but you don’t really own it. If that service goes out of business then you lose the content. In the end we’re getting screwed
Why would anyone have Spotify premium when CZcams premium is such a better deal no ads and music
Some might say piracy never left.
Piracy never left.
Where is the one streaming service to rule them all? :)
It's not even the amount of services because I will load my Roku TV with as many channels as I need to watch the content I want. The price of each service for an experience that is objectively not as good as sailing the seas, and I am paying for that privilege. Not to mention the price of each going up and us getting less in return with stricter restrictions
wait, i thought actors don't get residuals from streaming
They took runaways off disney plus so i pirate under cirtain circumstances
Who the hell re-watches. Runaways on PURPOSE? lol. You might as well had said Cloak and Dagger lmmfao
I just pay a debrid service and get everything $20 bucks every 6 months lol
