You will have to help manga readers too, with your theories... Hopefully TK explains everything here. The most obscure fight ever in bleach, that left many questions! One of the theory would be Unohana healed Kenpachi after she stabbed him.
So you remember that time you and Toshi were asking for best female shonen characters...I so badly wanted to mention Retsu (yachirua) Unohana, but it would have been a massive spolier as to why

If you didn't remember because it happened in a flashback in the soul society arc. Zaraki named his lieutenant Yachiru after the person he admired the most....today we learned that person is Unohana.

As a manga reader this is another 11/10 adaptation. The ambient for the second half was beyond what i had imagined. Osts on point and the general episode direction was amazing. It answered a lot of questions while bringing up new ones. Honestly the 10 year wait was worth it.

Remember, Aizen has no idea who all will be trapped in Hueco Mundo. His only plan was divide the captains. Which means he was prepared to face zaraki , unohana , mayuri and byakuya. Besides unohana was there when Aizen b***h slapped gotei 13 including yama. Correct me if im wrong , it's been a long tome since i watched Arrancar Saga.

ya'll remember that scene in hueco mundo when Unohana arrived and some arrancars pulled up on her and were about to attack her and then their leader looked at her and casually said, ,,Aight, time to go!'' 🤣 Now ya'll know why! The Unohana reveal has been hinted at since VERY early on in the series.
1. Everyone, even Captains as powerful as Shunsui and Ukitake are shown to be afraid of her (though this often played off for comedic relief).
2. Her fake name, Retsu, means "violent" or fierce", hinting at her true nature.
3. In the SS arc, she is the first Captain to notice something is off about Aizen's death (even while under complete hypnosis). When she arrives in the Underground Meeting assembly area after Aizen waxes Hitsugaya, he acknowledges that he thought she would be showing up soon.
4. If you recall Kenpachi's backstory flashback from the SS arc, he tells Yachiru that he named her after the one person he admires and respects. The First Kenpachi, Unohana Yachiru is that person.
5. Even from the first databooks, her total combat ability score was 540/600, which is second only to Aizen and Yamamoto who both have a total of 560/600. Her special ability was also listed as kenjutsu, NOT healing.

to be fair, when it was first revealed, the entire community was probably thinking "Damn, I know you're strong and scary... BUT NOT LIKE THIS!"
Kenpachi is this strong with practically no training, no bankai, and not even shikai, and like unohana said he has been unconsciously holding himself back from his true power all for the sake of an enjoyable fight. The moment this man actually learns how to wield his zanpakuto to its fullest potential, its game over.
hence why Aizen was like "Yeah no, I'm leaving you in Hueco Mundo cause I've got no idea what kind of potential you have mate"

@@monkeysage6447 yea um i could have gone more into detail but it would have been spoiling but yes - im going to put a spoiler warning here - Unohana can heal a lot better using her blood, but im going to guess that it weakens her and she needs her strength to train kenpachi, which is why he said he shouldn’t have been focused on healing, she has another purpose right now, which was to bring kenpachi full potential out of him.
In the soul Society arc Kenpachi said that "he gave his voice captain (the little girl) the name Yachiru, the name of the only one person that he admires"
Now we know who he admires and who had that name 😄
[Tibits and Clarifications]
-More reason why they Likely picked Shunsui is that He's a direct student of Yama, and Ukitake is as well, but he's often sick. Unohana is definitely stronger, but she likely doesn't have the mindset to be Headcaptain, Kenpachi probably will be stronger one day but just not yet, plus he's definitely not the type to lead Captains, but they likely don't have the appropriate mindset to be head captain.
- It was removed from the last episode but you learn that the springs that Urahara created are based on Tenjiros (Like the Spring we saw when Yoruichi revealed her human form that Ichigo was recovering in)
-Unohana being a Kenpachi was heavily foreshadowed throughout the entire series, it's the reason why squad 11 members were so afraid of her, It's why Aizen knew she'd catch on to his lie, and why even Captains like Shunsui and Ukitake feared her. (Another cool bit is that Aizen tried to seal Unohana and Kenpachi in Hueco Mundo to avoid them until he was immortal)
-This is our 1st time hearing Unohana's real first name, which is Yachiru, the same name Kenpachi gave to his Lieutenant when he found her. If you go back to that scene, Kenpachi said it's the name of someone he admired. Unohana's fake name was even a Hint "Retsu" means Violent in Japanese
-Buff Kon was another comedy bit removed from the last episode, so it may feel a bit random here.
-Given Kirio's words before they left her Palace, we now know that every Squad 0 member has done something that hugely affects how the Soul Society operates. Kirio made Gikon or Artificial Souls, and she says Ouetsu Made Zanpaktou, it's cool to wonder what the others invented.
-Next Episode will very likely go into deep detailing /fleshing out how or why Kenpachi is so strong

In case it’s wasn’t clear, since the requisite to be part of squad zero is to contribute to historical progress to the soul society. Tenjiro is most likely the creator of all healing techniques apart from using hot springs to heal others.

8:49 The spit take was so funny lol. One thing Bleach does really well that I've always appreciated is it is very self-aware. They often make a point to make the characters' thoughts and reactions to new things mirror our own as the viewer. Another good example of this was Shinji's remark of "These guys look different than what I was expecting" when the Zero Squad showed up. They purposely let Squad Zero confuse us for a few moments before Shinji confirms that no, it's not just us viewers feeling this way lol. So good.
Bleach’s humor is honestly some of the best I’ve seen in Shounen (not THE best, though).
This fight is insane in the manga, I hope the anime does it justice.

Unohana can kill him but that would be wasting Zaraki's potential. Zaraki has this DBZ-ish ability that whenever he's near-death, he gets a power boost. This makes Unohana who has an uberhealing the perfetct partner for Zaraki to get stronger.
Loved the reaction and as a longtime Bleach fan, it feels so good to see the community exploding with TYBW! For any new fans who were confused about what Hoho and Zanjutsu are, they’re two of the four fighting styles that the Shinigami use. Zanjutsu is the art of the sword and Hoho is movement arts (Shunpo, the flash step, is an example of this). There’s also Kido, which is the art of magic and Hakuda, which is martial arts (the main fighting style of Yoruichi and Soi Fon).
Also since apparently they’re just skipping this little tidbit: Kisuke actually replicated the hot spring method that Kirinji invented, which are the hot springs we’ve seen in the training areas that Urahara and Yoruichi made!

@@Ssjutsu oh and one other thing that I dunno if anyone told you: Kirio Hikifune is the captain that Kisuke replaced at Squad 12, the one that Hiyori thought of as a mother. That’s why she was so familiar with Shinji when the Zero Squad came down to the Sereitei.

I have to say, you are my fave reaction channel for Bleach. I legit watch your reaction right after I watch each episode. I think it's because your sincere enthusiasm for Bleach comes through your videos very well. The reason you have clocked onto a few things is because you really do get absorbed into the story as a whole. And as a manga reader, it's really heart-warming to watch.
And by the end of this episode, the questions you had, man.... they were questions manga readers had when all these lore and secrets were first revealed. So, I don't know how I can answer them without spoiling you. Your answers might be answered soon--I'm not sure, because they have been shuffling some panels and chapters in order to give us all a more coherent story. And I really really love this adaptation.

This episode goes to show just how much this arc was left aside by people and how unfortunate was that the anime was abandoned right when the biggest story was being delivered in the manga, ten years ago.
Tite Kubo created a very well linked story, that goes back and forward to explain itself, kinda like backtracking in videogames. If there is a captain whose powers we hadn't seen yet, we later find there was a good reason for that. And as now he's adding things he think were needed before, it's almost better than it could be in the (unwillingly) rushed manga.
And the power scaling he delivers makes a lot of sense as well. If you do a lil backtrack on your thinking, that is!

IVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU TO REACT TO THIS REVEAL
Just a little note on why Ichigo is soo strong right now. The FullBringer arc was essentially Ichigo learning to properly control his reitsu, as opposed to just flailing around with it like a giant club like he was doing before, and it's also part of his hollow abilities ie allowing for better mastery of that side of himself. In other words, when the captains gave him their energy to restore him, they essentially made him significantly stronger than he was before, given his new mastery. This is why he doesn't have a hollow mask anymore, and why the anime portrayed his reitsu as being red against Yhwach (similar to how it was in his hollow state vs Ulqiourra). He doesn't need the mask to draw out that hollow energy anymore, he's always using it.
Another interesting tidbit that most people missed in ep 7, and a further illustration of the previous point, is that when Ichigo arrived and noticeably dashed across the battlefield he actually used Sonido, the hollow version of Flash Step, which caused the Quincy to lose trace of his location. Whether or not it was a conscious decision on his part or not, this version of Ichigo is just a different beast than his previous iterations.
Ichigo can actually still use the mask whenever he wants. And the reason it was red (actually magenta) was because that's just the director adding in his artistic style and color pallet style, not coming from his hollow side
Ayo one thing to keep in mind, When Unohana was under the effects of Kyoka Suigetsu, Aizens total hypnosis, she was still able to determine the 'dead' Aizen body was still strange to her. Her complete knowledge over a dead body from her years of slaughtering them shows here. As well as her skill of a healer obviously. Though to be suspicious about the body while under Aizen's ability speaks a lot of her experience and level.
I also always like to point out that even Aizen with Gin didn't want to mess around with Unohana when she walked in central 46 after Aizen no diffed Toshiro, and they peaced out quick.

The battle of the Kenpachi's...what is gonna come out of this room will be an unstoppable killing machine forge by battle of pure instincts...it's savage and glorious at the same time ! Can't wait for episode 10 !!!
Next episode is going to be fire! Pretty much just the Unohana vs Kenpachi fight and then probably some Ichigo and Renji scenes where they arrive at the next stop. It's going to be incredible!
Zero Squad Food Wars: Not only did they replenish their own spiritual pressure, but she added extra spiritual pressure on top of that with the special food she gave them. It's like when Ironman got hit with Thor's lightning: power capacity at 400%.
Unohana: Until now, we never really got much on her character, but this fight is about to bring everything to head, and all of your questions will be answered. This was hands down my favorite character arc in all of Bleach, full stop. And your reaction and commentary has just taken it to a whole other level. Thank you.

Really enjoyed how they adapted this episode they changed scene's around like kenpachi stuff was in the middle of them meeting the Oetsu(Zanpakuto creator)but It makes sense for that change to no break flow of the fight but I think we might get the Oetsu palace and training stuff after that fight now. So maybe after next week?

Episode 10(if done right right🙏) - allow me to introduce myself
I believe when kyoraku said about zanjutsu its just the word since its meaning battle between kenpachi. Thats why he said one of them has to die since there's cant be 2 kenpachi at the same time and the rule of battle between kenpachi is battle to death.
Don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but the episode is called "the drop" after the blood drop on unohana's face after she stabbed kenny in the throat. The blood is still there after he snaps back, showing that the stab did really happen.

Yo I'm in heaven right now. I have read the manga and been a bleach fan since the beginning. They way they pushing out this anime has been fire. Every episode has been the best thing I have ever seen. Bleach has been going in and there's no let up man.
The scary thing about Unahona is that she may not have the same raw power as Zaraki, but she knows literally every sword fighting style and she won't hold back to make a good fight. Unlike with Zaraki, who will hold back to make a fight fun, anybody not up to Unahona's level just gets slaughtered. And, you may not have noticed, but the blood from Zaraki's neck wound was still on her face when he woke up with his sword in his hand. That wasn't an illusion--that was her stabbing him through the throat, then healing him back to full to start again. Zaraki gets stronger every time he nearly dies, so you can figure out what his "training" will entail...
Also, they WILL get into the nature of Zanpakuto in the next episode.

Unohana is the most legendary, ancient and powerful captain right now. She is simply extraordinary and unbelievable! Wow, her extreme superiority to Zaraki is clear, even when RESURRECTS him to keep fighting and evolving, until he gets where the Gotei "needs". In himself he did not have the slightest conditions to defeat Unohana, she is the one who surrenders and lets herself be defeated without any resistance in the end because she no longer has any desire to continue because there is no one worthy of fighting her. It also looks like she ran him through, then healed him. you see his blood splatter her face, he blacks out, then attacks again but the blood remained on her face! master healer and master killer all in one
this episode makes me wish I never read the manga but I still loved it just as when i read it

The reason why one has to die is because there can only be one Kenpachi in each generation. Unohana left her position as kenpachi and captain of squad 11 when they achieved piece and also as Shinji mentioned in the turn back the pendulum arc Zaraki is the 10th gen kenpachi so there were 9 other kenpachi's before him.
Unohana is a savage I love her badass energy, she was an OG after all. Gonna be sad if either one of them dies.
The best way to explain why one of them has to die(if this a spoiler I apologize) it's like highlander rules there can only be one kenpachi

For anyone who didn’t catch it, when Unohana stabs Kenpachi’s throat, he spits some blood on her face. When he comes back from “spacing out” she still has the blood on her face… do with that what u will

To answer this question would be to spoil the back story that hasn't been revealed yet in the anime, but the manga has answered this for sure. With that said, there are some mysteries behind some of the earlier members that hold the title Kenpachi after Unohana and before Zaraki (the manga and novels reveal some names but not all), but to answer the question anyway, based on the info the manga gives and discussions on the topic...its argued that Zaraki could have killed Unohana way back when he was younger, but killing her would mean he would never be able to fight her again a sensation he enjoyed, and his love for fighting is basically what he lives for. Just like he said in this episode, fighting anyone prior to Unohana wasn't fun and it was like swinging his sword in the dark, but once he fought Unohana the admiration of fighting someone worthy of his time brought many emotion to him, fear, excitement, etc etc...This last fight is basically finishing what they started. From a more mature stand point I think Unohana always knew if Zaraki's true potential was to come out, she would have to be involved somehow that's why her character this whole time was shrouded in mystery until this very moment. S/O to @star_slinger on his comment, as I agree with that perspective as well and echoes what I'm saying too. Thoughts?

remember when in Hueco Mundo with those guards who acknowledged Unohana and then said lets leave, or when in the flashback Ukitake & Shyunsui got shook because of Unohana...this is why.Next episode is gonna go stupid honestly. I love how during that discussion as well, though Kenny isn't the main character, they're talking about him as if he was like how they desperately need him the battle to come. honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Kubo's favourite character is Kenny or if he has a very soft spot for him because Kenny can either become plot armour, or break plot armour while both making sense in some way looool
What I find funny is that Kirinji hit Ichhigo first. Meaning, his fist was already fractured when he punched Renji... yet he still caused the area to explode.
That's weird right how vivid it was that he felt he died😉...... The storytelling is beautiful and it's one of the things That pushed me to create my own work... But I will say this sometimes the most simple answer is usually the correct one
I've read the manga awhile ago, I was surprised they were already at thus point
