  • Welcome!
This react is to Park Hyo Shin 박효신 performing Wildflower 야생화 . I found this react really hard to edit because there is so much I wanted to talk about (I wound up having to cut a lot because of that so hopefully this is still a cohesive react for you). If you'd like to watch the original performance you can do so here: • Park Hyoshin - Wildflo...
This performance encapsulates a lot of what coaches mean when they talk about emotional connection to a song. There is vulnerability present and it only makes the performance stronger.
As usual please leave your suggestions and recommendations in the comment section below or through my insta (@jvoxfox). Or if you're interested in lessons or vocal assessment please get in contact via my website www.jvoxstudio.com

Hey guys! Let me know if this performance sparked anything in you!
Also, I made a comment about how not a lot of guys might want to sing up to a C5. This is generally the top of the Tenor range and you can find professional tenors in many different music styles. A larger portion of male singers tend to fall into the baritone voice class however (top note possibly tapping out around an A4) so that is why I said that.

Hi, first time seeing a reaction from you. I enjoyed it very much. Park Hyo Shin is my musical obsession. You were speaking of musical theater. He won the Korean Musical Theater award for best male actor for his performance in The Man who Laughs, in 2018. He has performed in several musicals. Here is a clip from his performance in Phantom. It's not actually from the musical, but a concert where he sang with his leading lady from the musical. czcams.com/video/8m1pfPkYuPk/video.html
czcams.com/video/KKJ6a2wOnrM/video.html is from Elisabeth. He plays the role of Death who is obsessed with Elisabeth.
Please react to more of his songs. His live performances are best, but they are almost all fancams so sometimes they lack the steadiness, focus, and sound quality of professionals but are all done with love for HyoShin. His MV's are all good. I recommend Breathe, Goodbye, and Beautiful Tomorrow. My favorite is Sound of Winter, or Sleep in White.

[WARNING] Super long comment ahead about the history of Park Hyo Shin's career and why this song is an emotional one for him.
Hello, I'm a new subscriber and I want to thank you for reacting to Park Hyo Shin. Now, this comment is going to be a long one but I really need to tell you the story about Park Hyo Shin and why this song is such an emotional song for him. If you're interested in knowing why, please do read this long comment. If you don't, then it's okay.
I realized that you didn't notice that he's actually crying in this video and that's he struggled a little to finish the song properly. Do you know why he cried?
Well, let me start my History Park Hyo Shin's Career class.
Park Hyo Shin has been singing since he was a kid. In highschool, one of his friends suggested him to become a singer. With his amazing vocal skill, it wasn't hard for him to get accepted into one of the many entertainment agencies in South Korea. Unfortunately, this is where the hardship began for him.
He was a trainee in said agency for 8-9 months with no contract. The agency was then struck with financial problems and was forced to close down. Knowing this, he decided to move to another agency but when the old agency knew about it, they made him pay back $50,000 they spent during his training, even tho there was no contract. This made him swore to never becoming a singer again.
However, he was introduced to composer Hwang Yoon Min, and he started to sing again under Hwang's supervision. He then debuted a year later in 1999 and he was popular. Popular, sadly, doesn't always mean you're financially in a good place too, at least not for him. He didn't get paid properly from the sales of his 1st-3rd albums because of multiple music producers who took part in making his albums. He had a tough time and often cried.
He then decided to start his own agency, and released his 4th album by himself because he couldn't trust other agencies anymore. Unfortunately, he had to close down his agency and joined a new one to realease his 5th album in 2007.
2007 was the year of nightmare for Park Hyo Shin. His agency still hadn't given him income and without his permission, they were already planning for a tour concert, and he had found this out through the internet. He had to practice non stop since the concert was scheduled a month later. He was forced to prepare for the concert without payment and he gained extreme stress for his excessive amount of practice.
During one of the rehearsals for the concert, he felt pain and collapsed. He was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with Dysphonia (an interruption of the ability of the vocal folds to vibrate normally during exhalation, which affects the voice. the voice involuntarily sounds breathy, raspy, or strained, or is softer in volume or lower in pitch). Sadly, he still has this condition until now.
The doctors told him he shouldn't perform and if he did, then he would need to take pills for the rest of his life and so they tried to stop him from attending. But in the end, he performed for his fans while having to take pills. During this time, the agency didn’t give him the money earned from his last 6 concerts and various other projects.
He decided to file a lawsuit against his agency and sign with a new agency. But the old agency filed a counter lawsuit for not fulfilling his contract and demanded a fine of aprrox. $1.3 million. After a long battle in court, Park Hyo Shin lost the lawsuit and he had to file bankruptcy as he had no money to pay the fine. During this period, he also lost his bestfriend, late actor Park Yong Ha, who commited suicide.
He then went to the military, as it is mandatory for men in South Korea to serve in military for 2 years. After he completed his mandatory military service, he came back in 2014 with his biggest song called ‘Wild Flower’. Yes, this song.
He wrote and composed this song with the help of composer Jung Jae Il (he's the pianist in this video). This song is about overcoming emotional turmoil through the metaphor of a resilient wildflower. A perfect metaphor for Park Hyo Shin, if I might say so myself.
This is why this song is very emotional to him. It's his personal life and struggles being written into a wonderfully beautiful ballad song. It's the story of his life and the turmoils he has faced. I think this is also why you feel like you're intruding on something personal.
Oh, if you're curious about how is Park Hyo Shin doing now, he signed with a new agency after his contract with the previous agency has expired and he's doing really well as a singer and musical actor.

Holy moly that's absolutely brutal. What a strong person. It isn't unusual for intense stress to affect the voice. It's a psychosomatic instrument so your mental state absolutely can influence your voice. I did notice him crying I just didn't want to point it out so instead pointed out his breathing reflecting crying in that last passage. To be honest the whole last part of the song was so emotional that I didn't want to state the obvious and be like "he crying guys, he real sad". I don't think I'll ever forget this react. True pain and experience isn't something others can fake their way through so I don't know if covers of this song would ever match up to him.

You did a great job on your brief history of PHS. I think his condition is/was spasmodic dysphonia. It took him years to pay off the fine, but he was finally able to do so, then they sued him again saying he hadn't paid everything. He had to go to court to prove everything was paid to the court as ordered. Thankfully his record company at the time stood by him and helped him. He is a really special person. Anyone else would have been so disillusioned they would have given up completely, but he was able to press on thru everything. The lyrics of his songs reflect his hope for a better tomorrow for everyone. Gift, Home, Breathe, Lovers, Happy Together, Another Day, I am a Dreamer, they are all his story and his hope for the future 'to be better then today'.

@@woofwoof4109 I think he changed his singing style because he began to want to sing songs that style didn't fit. Starting with Snowflower. He worked on singing in his more natural voice and not forcing it to be 'scratched'. Because he was so popular with the scratched rough voice, the record company of course didn't want any changes. His style now is his natural voice, which is more healthy for him to use. He's been singing twenty years professionally. Thank goodness his voice is still healthy. His musical theatre performances are outstanding, and it's got to take alot to be able to sing like that.

Mate, Julia is not an emotional reactor. To her this is all an act. She's looking at the staging and production as a setup for a song, not as a compliment. Dunno why really it's kind of a cynical outlook. Her technical comments are spot on, but I think if you can say 'let me know if this performance sparked something in you', I walk away thinking.. you had to ask?

Best reaction video to this performance thus far (in my opinion)! I was able to relate so much on the commentary you made especially about the importance of the lyrics... This song means a lot to the artist in many ways more than one and although you don't necessarily need the lyrics to feel the emotions he is conveying, it adds another layer of depth that further reaches your heart. I think this is a song that just well.... makes you 'feel' and I would say it's rare for a song/artist/musician/composer to be able to create such a masterpiece
I really felt like you were listening to the song and not just "react" or critique it which made me appreciate your commentary even more!!!... I've seen a lot of vocal coach react and while their opinions and reactions are much appreciated, sometimes I felt like they felt the need to comment on every little thing which didn't allow them to become part of the audience (listeners) and instead played into a role of a 'teacher'.......
Also I loved how you put a lot of the comments as text so that you don't pause the video every 2 seconds haha

It was his fourth try to get thru the song. He broke down too much to get thru on his first 3 tries. It was a very emotional time for him. The audience loves him. Thousands wanted to be in the audience but because it was a TV studio a limited number of seats so they know how lucky they were to be there. These people all know his life story and what this song really means, what hardships he had to live thru to get to that point of being able to put it in the past and overcome.

just for an fyi, at the end of the first chorus, his original lyrics do have the word "bloom" in it but he didn't sing it here for a poetic effect, so that the "blooming" part can be emphasized and signify the true blooming of the flower towards the climax of the song. just thought you should know. :)
