    All the best to the runners watching this and preparing for this year's race. I will be with you again, just not this year. Taper well, get rested, get hydrated and get ready. You have a lot to look forward to. An epic day awaits. Jack NYC

    I've volunteered at the ferry terminal for 3 years (2016-2018) and ran in 2019. The ferry terminal including the bathrooms gets packed but thank goodness you can literally ride the ferry whenever you want. Your bib says 7:30 but you could easily ride at 6:30. If you are wave 5 and decide to ride the 8:30am, you are cutting it close even though wave 5 starts at 11:30am. The volunteers do not have a right to enforce the time stamp. We are there to assist, support and wish everyone good luck. Good luck runners. I'll be there at the ferry terminal this year as well.

    Different sort of question... I'll be doing the New York City marathon for the first time (probably only time) this year. I bought a GoPro and a falcon Plus gimbal but I still don't know how you video a marathon. Do you carry a power pack? What do you do with your camera when you're not filming? What do you do if the weather turns bad and it starts to rain? Am I better off just running with the camera in my hand? I'd love any tips you can offer. Maybe you can do a whole video on the practicalities of carrying an action camera in a long distance race.

    I am staying in New Jersey. I could not get an official transportation to the start line. How can I get to the start line? Do I take an uber to the ferry terminal?

    • @cathynewyork7918
      @cathynewyork7918 Před rokem

      You can email NYRR's Help Desk to ask if you can get transportation on the marathon buses leaving from The Meadowlands in New Jersey. If this is not possible, then yes, you can take an Uber into Manhattan to the ferry. It might be cheaper to take the Uber to the nearest subway station in Manhattan and then take the subway down to the ferry instead of riding the Uber the entire distance.

    • @sealand6567
      @sealand6567 Před rokem

      @@cathynewyork7918 Hi, thanks for replying. I am told by NYRR to visit the help desk at the expo to see if I can still get official transportation.

    • @cathynewyork7918
      @cathynewyork7918 Před rokem

      @@sealand6567 Yes, do that! At the expo they usually call the help desk "Solutions" -- supposedly solutions for runners' problems. Unofficial hint: at the ferry, there are too many runners -- thousands -- so the volunteers and staff ONLY look for bib numbers -- they don't look closely at the small print in the corner of your race number to read what your transportation option is -- so if you don't have an assigned transportation marker on your race number, they will never notice. So -- try to do it officially at the expo -- otherwise just go to the ferry and get on. Ride on the right side of the ferry to get a great view of The Statue of Liberty. Then -- when the ferry is close to docking at Staten Island, go toward the front of the ferry so you can be one of the first to leave the ferry. That way you are first in line for the buses from the ferry to the start -- otherwise you will have 5000 runners ahead of you, waiting for a seat on the bus. It is cold and windy in Staten Island -- be sure to take "throwaway clothes" with you -- some cheap sweatshirts and plastic garbage bag you buy from a thrift shop will do.

    Eric, STOP telling people to break NYRR's rules about the race. They are trying to organize 53,000 runners and keep the race clear for runners -- STOP telling people to go around the rules. In a past video years ago, you even told people to jump over to the opposite side of 4th Avenue depending on whether it's sunny or not. STOP working AGAINST the NYRR - let them organize their race -- encourage runners to follow the rules so the race is good for all of us.
