    Steve is clearly a really lovely man, and loves boating. Good for him that he wasn’t afraid to try some alternatives and return to his true love. I am not a sailboat fan, but his new boat is gorgeous. Congratulations to Steve and Jan. Nick, it would be fun to check back in with some of your interviews and see where they are at in future. We get to know them a little bit, and it would be very enjoyable to see their progress. I really enjoyed this edition. Thank you! PS, Steve must LOVE paying taxes….lol.

    • @brownnoise357
      @brownnoise357 Před 9 měsíci

      Nick, could you let them know, that for a good reliable in mast Furling Battenless Triradial Sail is available from several Sailmakers now. Triradial = Recovers most of the power lost from not having battens, but compared to a Crosscut Dacron with battens, the Batten less Triradial an last ten times longer, or even more, depending on the Sailcloth and Stitching used.Properly designed in Reefing points dramatically improve Sail Life as well, which also applies to a Triradial Genoa. Part Furling a Crosscut Sail can literally wreck the Sail Shape, within a couple of hours believe it or not. Hence I’ve gone all in on Triradial for Furling, and now that awful Mylar is being ditched from Laninates, a laminated Polyester Reaching Code Zero from Ullman Sails, is starting to look Really attractive. Makers of Battenless Triradial Sails include - Precision Sails, Quantum Sails, Ullman Sails, and Elvestrom Sails, and others may have also started making them . The days of “ Sorry we only do battened Sails” thankfully appear to be over. Battens = Chafing Wear and Tear, increased risk of jamming in the Mast Furling slot and reduced Sail Life.Triradial costs from about double the Crosscut cost, but for about from 5 to 20 times longer potential service Life, depending on materials used. The best materials, can apparently last for the life of the boat, but are really expensive. Personally, I think I’d prefer a cost effective Compromise to keep the sails inspected and serviced professionally pretty regularly tbh. Best Wishes. Bob.❤

      Best Wishes, Fair Winds, and Safe Travels to them you and everyone Nick, the Coastal Route well into the Continental Shelf using the Atlantic Coast of France, Northern Spain, and Portugal down to Gibraltar really is a drop dead gorgeous route to take. • @loki7441
    @loki7441 Před 9 měsíci +1

    Steve & Jan certainly made a good decision. Steve sounds the type of person you could have a right good evening with over a few beers.
    I would be a powerboat voter, but I always marveled at the space in a yacht of the 35-45 foot range. Imagine if you had that on a power boat; if you didn't mind the extra fuel usage from the extra beam. There is reason for the average of 3:1 on length / beam ratio on a powerboat.
    I was surprised to hear a boat of that length was on Windemere, as you say about ten miles long. On Lough Derg on the river shannon there are quite a few big yachts, but they have twenty eight miles to play with and wide navigation channels. Its deep too for the most part.
    I wish them the best of luck. Its really a lovely boat.

    Wow that wind is just howling. Brave man to be out there on the boat, even in port. Better than being out to sea though. When I was a deckhand on a Benetti 160 we were anchored offmthe coast of Croatia and a storm came over land and then proceeded to swoosh down the mountain, picking up speed and smashed into us which dropped the temperature about 20° F and swung the whole yacht around. It was already late fall, and about 75° already soon to plummet to around a chilly 53°. The owners were out on jet skis and immediately had to come in because of the cold and the wind. Stayed like that for 2 days and it was just insane. It went from mimosas and frozen margaritas to hot chocolate and movie nights. They didn't want to go in and we were relatively safe. The sound of that wind howling was eerie and made you think that snakw was pouring in

    • @scubacro5758

      Yes it takes great bravery to stay on boat in middle of protected marina, what a hero...
      Well as somebody from Croatia I can tell you that weather that you experienced on yacht is very normal on adriatic sea in fall and winter, a lott of people think its safe becouse its not big ocean, but it can turn really bad here. Just watch video on yt "wind in croatia" it trows trucks around

    What a very nice guy and i totally get him, i am a sailing man but tried power and went back to sail again, but i found the Swift Trawler to be a great compromise, great on fuel compared to a lot of power boats, you get a great range at 6 knots and its simialr pace to a sail boat, it also can take a reasonable sea way. Also its a Beneteau.
    It could be what Steve is looking for after his 48.

    Windermere Lake 10 miles long! Massive you say! We have conservation lakes that are basically dammed rivers for flood control that are bigger. Lots of them that size only permit small sail boats & canoes with no powerboat options not even small 12\14 ft. fishing boats. One could hardly rig the sails on that boat on a windy day, no wonder he sold it.😮
