In this video we take a look at the additional 54 colors Arrtx have added to their original 72 set of colored pencils. This is not a technical review of the Arrtx Colored Pencil, if you would like to know more about the actual pencil I have added links back to my original review.
I hope you can forgive my voice in this video as I have been suffering with the Flu and high temperature for the past few days now, but I have fallen so far behind I needed to get this review completed and uploaded.

Quick suggestion: when you make a mistake like you did with the two big black swatch spots, just take some of the paper you used and cut a piece to fit over the spot you messed up on and glue it over. This is a trick I teach my students when they need to fix an artwork they spent a long time on. Collaging fixes a million mistakes.
Is everyone ignoring the fact that they are soooooo pretty!!! Letting them just stand on your table to look at!!!

I'm swatching my new set of Arrtx 126. Very pleased with soft cores and an easy, vibrant laydown. I am so happy to have bought these on Amazon for 27.49.
Thanks! It’s unbelievable that you put out a review even though you aren’t well. Hope you and your wife feel better soon. The flu and RSV are going around in my neck of the woods. The RSV seems to stick around longer than the flu. Some unfortunate souls are getting both at the same time. Lovely set but I am not in need of more art supplies at the moment.
I've added these to my wishlist on Amazon for when I finish up my vintage Prismacolor pencils, for something new that I can just do whatever with. I have Derwent, Holbein and FaberCastell pencils for bigger projects, but these look fun just for playing around. It looks like a much better, more rounded range than the initial 72 set. I love the Arrtx Jelly Gouache for messing around with, so I've been generally impressed with the company.
Also- My mom used to joke about the flu. My Dad hardly ever got sick with it, when it killed my mom and I for a few days and we'd be able to bounce back up. My Dad was down for a week with it. She jokingly called it "The man-flu, it's different than our flu". In all seriousness though, I hope you get feeling better soon. It really bites being ill this time of the year!

I agree. Good colors, good additional colors. I'm not a fan of metallic or neon colors but have seen great work from artists that do use them. About 25 yes ago my roommate bought me a 24 set of Faber Castells. My ABSOLUT FAVORITE colored pencils but can't get them anymore. The colors in this set look similar. Maybe I will try.

The flu is hitting people pretty quite this year, but otherwise I hope your family is doing well.
Growing up when my parents got the flu and stuff my father was pretty much on his deathbed while my mother would keep on working and doing it all without complaints.

These look to be very nice budget pencils! I have enough pencils in this range just now. I got the square Brutfuner 120 set and they are lasting for quite a while now! I use my Prismacolors for most of my pencil works. I do have a complete set of the Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils I even have all of the Magnus big sized pencils all 30 of them. I did have to buy the 24 set and get the others open stock to fill out the set. They work dry or wet! that is my favorite thing about them! Good to know so much about these pencils, so Thanks Harry! I hope you and your family will be feeling better all around.
Finally, These are available in the US! I have been watching these for ages, hoping to get a set for Christmas, and finally gave up and ordered another set you've recommended!

I like ARRTX pencils. I have 72 set. Would like to get 126 one , but maybe a bit later. Glad they changed the box. Totally agree about neon colours and gold and silver. I never use gold amd silver as they are not good enough for accents , just looks like mud. Better to use acrylic pen or gel pen if you need gold and silver details on your picture. Thank you for the review! It was very useful to see just the new colours on the swatch, gives you overall idea about what you will get. P.s. would be great if you had a collaboration with some art supplies company you trust and come up with your set of pencils! Happy Hollidays!
Oh Harry another great and honest review, really appreciate these! I have these coming my way and am excited to see the new bolder colours. (I had been using my 72 set oftener these days and enjoying them so thought, why not get the bigger set!) I totally agree about the metallics and the fluorescent shades; funny that they thought it necessary to include them but oh well! Take care of yourself... and please get better soon.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well and I hope you get better soon. This set looks really wonderful. I just don't know if I need them, lol. I have and use daily the FC polychromos, the CD Pablos, and the 150 set Holbeins. But these are gorgeous and I love getting new color pencils; plus they're pretty affordable! I have the 72 set and adore it! Now I NEEEED to have the 126! 😄 But have to wait for a sale, because the 70 euros is out of my budget 😭

The box designs of these are so adorable. If the the pencils are as nice as the boxes, then they must be good value.

I just found out that Silver & Gold (and Copper) are gorgeous on black paper! I plan on using them that way. Also, the neon colors - I love using them for highlights, and also in my Bible journaling they are great for lettering/word art!

Got these today and have just swatched them. First impression is that I like them. I'm pretty new to the adult colouring world but have gone down the rabbit hole. Also got the Kalour 240 set today but they will take a hot minute to swatch...lol Love your reviews!!

Mine just arrived today, I was really surprised, aliexpress has never been this fast. I got them in under a fortnight.
They also took out two colors from the original 72 set: Shortbread & Yellow Chartreuse. So in all there should be 56 new colors.

I really wish these companies would issue a second set of colors with just the new ones! I can’t justify buying a duplicate set just to have a couple of new colors, so it automatically shuts me out of owning the entire set.

Koh I Noor has added a whole new set of 🎉72 to the 72 of their former polycolors.
Did you know Harry Art-n-Fly now also have a 120 set. I have the 72 set of the Arrtx and they are lovely pencil I will have to save to get the 120.

i would agree that i wouldnt put the fluorescent and metallic colors in a set of 120 BUT maybe thats why its a set of 126? so they could add them while still providing 120 "proper" colors? i think thats actually something great that they added them. alot of people criticise the bronze silver and gold in the range of 120 polychromos of faber castell (and as someone who was curious and bought the gold i agree, its not necessary) at least here I personally can recognize the setcount of 126 as 120+6 and i personally like that =)
Can you only use Caran d ache blending pencils with the Caran d ache pencils? Or can you use with other brands?

If it makes you feel any better, I think on average women have more white blood cells, I think I heard this from another youtuber? I can't remember his sources so maybe take this with a grain of salt, but either way! The box is so cute and the new colors look nice!
I am wondering if they put the neon and metalic pencils because the Prismacolor 150 set has the same colors. A lot of these colors look similar to that Prismacolor set. It's not a bad thing. Its a good set of pencils. I noticed the similar colors.
Always like when a company adds more colors.

Thanks for the review and get well. They look good colour pencils. But because they are not lightfast and it's price (£62.99) I would rather buy something cheaper like 120 tin brutfuner colour pencils with square barrel (only £25 on amazon) or the lightfast artist grade Polychromos 36 tin (£42.72 on amazon). What about you, would you recommend an alternative or you prefer leaving that decision to each individual? Congrats. I noticed that your artwork is on amazon Arrtx product.
I like them, but to be honest I am starting to slow down on enthusiasm for all these sets of budget colored pencils, and going back to the old good professional ones. Less pencils but trusty.
The budget ones are all so nice, but they very often look quite similar to one another as for the color palette. So when I have one or two, I'm good already.
Maybe I just feel that's "too much" on the market now. They are beautiful, nothing to say about that, but I am drawn back by the lack of lightfastness info and by the fact that apparently, they do react to water. Just a little bit but they do desolve, from what I have seen on online reviews with photos.
So they are not properly watersoluble, neither waterproof.
Because I work in mixed media sometimes, personally when I am drawing or coloring, I find it annoying to have to be careful not to put water in areas when I used certain pencils, whereas in other parts I can...
Why just don't let the pencils be totally waterproof, or either completely watersoluble?
Also I can find no use for metallics. Neons are nice in my opinion, though not lightfast. A wonderful set for sketchbook practice or coloring books though.
All in all it's just my personal opinion, and I can see why they might work instead for other artists, who may have different needs! The palette is quite nice too.
Okay harryi hope you feel better by the time you read this message i will say a healing prayer during my rosary for you amd your wife to feel better...im gonna have to slightly disagree on one thing but its propbably just me i do like the few neon color they offer only cause i like that little punch of color when im kinda doing a skyfi theme drawing like if i want to draw robots with chest plate of buttons or circuits on their body or funny aliens and their gelatinous bodies..i know its kinda whimsical but also i think if your doing a dragon and its haul its guarding you can use the few neon colors, these colors in this box gives me alot of ideas of different things i could draw and color or even adding highlight to painting deftly going on my lottery win bucket list..lol....mikelle art mom✍🎨👩🎨
Do you know if these are similar to Arteza in feel and blending? I would like to try then out, but I really hated to work with Arteza, so don't want anything similar.
I’m afraid I can’t really give you an accurate answer for this. So I was among one of the first reviewers Arteza reached out to when they launched and the pencils they sent me were excellent considering the price point.
However, as is so often the case with new companies, after a year or so of sending loads of their products for me to review, they changed staff and demands as to how they wanted reviews done changed. Well, I do my reviews for free, I don’t take money from companies and there is a reason for that, even though I am the one who loses out, and the reason is I do my reviews the way I want to do them, the only people I owe anything to is you guys who watch my reviews. As soon as a company tells me to review a product a certain way, I get suspicious and I did with Arteza.
Round about this time, other reviewers, better reviewers than me such as The Frugal Crafter and Marty Owings etc, all noticed that Arteza had changed the ingredients in their pencils. Their ordinary colored pencils had also become water soluble for some reason, so all of us started to retest and compare the various iterations of pencils they had shipped and discovered that there were significant differences in lots of versions.
So by the time I cut ties with Arteza and reviewing anything for them, the pencils I had were excellent but I have no idea what their most recent pencils are like.
I am so sorry I couldn’t help you. But if I compare the very first Arteza pencils to the Arrtx pencils, I would say they are very similar, but unfortunately, the Arteza pencils I have are 7 or 8 years old, so I can’t be sure if the Arrtx pencils are similar to the Arteza pencils you have.
@@TheArtGearGuide I risked it and bought Arrtx colour pencils, and I love them.
For me they are much better than the Arteza set I had. Feels like they don't produce that thick wax layer.
I can put down many layers with them and they work fine that way.
They also have many unusual colours which are quite beautiful.
glad i didnt buy the other set now lol not that extra pencil would have went amiss 😝 metallics have always been useless for me when it comes to coloured pencils

I'm going to have to disagree with you on the fluorescents and metallics. I actually use those colors and the thing about them is that you either cannot mix them, or they are REALLY hard to mix. If you have silver, you can mix gold with yellows, browns, and oranges, but that's about it. You might be able to swing a fluorescent yellow and green with a Chartreuse and yellow...but I wouldn't count on it. That's why those colors are valuable to have in a set. You can basically mix whatever else you would need in a set this large, but not those colors. Anyway, thanks a lot for your hard work. It's really good, and I appreciate it!

more consumerism. the art world really needs to fix this materialistic addiction. Just buy a few good quality ones from renowned brands and skip these slave labour ones. As they are not transparent about where they are produced - it's most likely some chinese sweat shop kind of thing.
Your wife is sick but has been going in to work? That is so bad. Especially since she works with kids. She gets no credit for toughness from me. Disease vector, maybe.
Where in the name of goodness do you think she picked up the cold from. I don’t know where you live or where you are from, but here in the U.K. a doctor will not give you a sick note for having a cold.
What I love about people such as yourself is rather than ask more questions to find out the facts, you just cast aspersions. My wife is the deputy manager for a “Private” nursery, not a Government run nursery, but a private one.
So here are the rules, where my wife works there are 9 girls including the manager. They all have the cold at the minute because it is winter here in the U.K. most of the children have the cold as well. The parents who bring their children there can’t take a week off work because their kid has a cold, high temperature a different matter, but not for a cold. Where my wife works they are not paid for the first three days they take off work, after that they have to see a doctor to get a self cert, but no doctor here in the North East will give you a self cert for a cold. And before you lose your mind completely, none of them, including the kids have COVID because once they developed the symptoms of the cold, they were all tested.
I ask so many people of this as I have done it many times myself. Before you make a fool of yourself by casting disgusting aspersions like “Disease Vector” ask me a few questions. Hay Harry, you said this that or the other thing, what are the laws for sick leave were your wife works, what about the parents of the children? Are they keeping their children away from the nursery when they contract a cold.
Have you any idea what County Hall would do to the nursery if all 9 women including the manager took a week off work because they were all suffering with head colds, coughs etc. they probably wouldn’t have a job to return to.
Of course, if you are wealthy and quite happy to pay for the parents to take time of their work to care for their children at home for a week, then the women who work at the nursery and the over heads of the business while everyone sits at home sniffing and watching Netflix’s, my PayPal details are in the description I will certainly pass on the money to the girls which in all honesty is not a lot of money. However it is the parents wages you will struggle with as they are all Professors at Durham Univeristy, Doctors, Lawyers etc, I’ll happily let them know you are happy to pay for them to stay at home caring for their kids cold.
My video was tongue and cheek, but I guess I’ve done this thing long enough now to know better, it is very much my fault.
I certainly won’t cast the same aspersions upon you as you have us. But working a minimum wage job and being the only earner in the home, caring for her disabled veteran husband and 18 year old daughter still in full time education, taking time away from work for a cold is not an option.
Something I also forgot to mention and fill you in on. If the girls working in the nursery contacted the parents of the children and told them to collect their children and take them home because they have a cold, the nursery would close. It would close because the parents can’t afford to be sat at home caring for a child that has the cold or flu and if the nursery carried such ludicrous policy, the parents would take the kids to a different nursery and head back to work. Obviously if the children test positive for COVID that is different, same if they develop a high temperature, parents have to be called for those matters but not colds and flus, at least not here in the North East of England. I can’t talk for other areas around the world.
