I also had depression for 6 years. I was suffering from anxiety, memory loss, less focus, eating disorders, extreme mood swings, had no interst in any hobbies. I took meds for almost 18 months. Finally i am not depressed anymore and do not take meds. I am hapy with my life now.

FOLLOWING ARE THE PROBLEMS THAT I HAD :
From age 21 to 27 years i was staying home doing nothing.
      I had financial issues,
i was failing my law exams every year for the last 5 years. but i never shared my result with my parents or my teachers due to shame.
i was on social media like facebook and instagram just scrolling down for hours reading unrealistic and impractical "Quotes" .
i consulted different doctors and took a few therapy sessions but i refused to take any antidepressants.
      I would have suicidal thoughts.
      I had sleeping diorders.
i was mentally tired all the time.
i would cry almost daily. i would start crying on very insignificant issues(like watching a sad scene in a movie)
i couldnt watch horror movies because i would get extremely scared for no reason.
i would have anxiety and panic attacks whenever my exam result was to be announced.
i would not go out with friends, i had absolutely isolated myself at home.
      I was absolutely miserable.
Depression magnifies little problems in your life and depict them as huge unsolvable issues.
HOW I SOLVED THOSE PROBLEMS :
One of my cousin who also had depression went to a psychiatrist, he started taking meds and after just one month, he showed visible improvements in his mood.
thats when i decided that i am not going to giveup on my life.
I stopped thinking about my financial issues and took things as they came.
I went to my teachers and father and told that i have been failing for years. They were very supportive and told me that failing in exams is not a thing to be ashamed of. and said that i should have told them earlier so they could have helped me earlier. with their help a managed to clear my exams.
I started going to cinema to watch my favorite movies and went to jog in the park daily.
i deactivated my FB and instagram accounts and stopped reading meaningless "Quotes" that had nothing to do with real life.
I went to the doctor and told him that i am ready to take meds. he gave me a single pill of 12mg to take twice a day and asked me to follow up after a week. after a week i was feeling better. he adjusted my pill from 12mg to 25 mg twice a day. he than asked me to visit him after a month. month later when i went to him i was feeling excellent. he told me to continue 25mg for 3 more months. after 3 months when i went back to him he asked me to continue for 10 months.
After taking meds for more than a year i felt thing that i had not felt in last 6 years. i was a new person.
suicidal thoughts were gone. i started sleeping like a 3 year old child. I didnt feel any mental tiredness. I had control overmy emotions, didnt cry anymore. i would start crying on very insignificant issues. (didnt cried on movies anymore). i could watch horror movies without being abnormally scared. anxiety and panic attacks were gone. I started going out with my friends again.
      CONCLUSION :
meds have really helped me a lot and they have changed my life in a better way. the meds had a few side effects in the beginning but they were gone in the first 2 months. My financial problem still remains but most of the problems related to my brain are solved. my brain was creating hurdle for me to live life to the fullest. Now i look forward to everyday and try making the most of it.
MY ADVICE FOR PEOPLE HAVING DEPRESSION :
Dont be ashamed of having depression. It is very normal. many people have it without realizing. it is like having a fever or flu. it is curable. and it will change your life for good. and if you know you have depression then dont delay in curing it. the quickly you get help, the quickly you will heal and recover.
Take help form your family and friends. tell them about it, tell them how you feel. go to a doctor, tell him about your condition. if you have memory problem than write your issues on a paper and tell your doctor. your doctor is your friend, he will help you. Dont expect the results to come quickly, have patience, hopefully you will be healed.
You can google symptoms of depression online to better understand it.

To be honest I’ve found this drug a bit strange, in that I took 5mgs for 8 weeks. I had lots of side effects. But the drug wasn’t effective at this low dose. So I went back to the doctor and he increased it to 10 mgs. 4 weeks on I have gone through being a zombie, sleeping loads and feeling sick! But at last. In the past few days I’m starting to feel brighter and happier. The side effects are subsiding. I’m taking the tablet in the morning. Sleepiness is going of! I actually feel like doing housework. Instead of sitting around depressed. I’m setting my alarm every morning as well to get up! And get back into a routine. I am retired. Wishing you all well on this journey.

The funny thing is the simple act of me getting diagnosed with depression/anxiety made me actively aware of it and actually made it worse initially because I became self-aware of it and started to dwell on it more. I was going along win life just coping because I thought what I was feeling was just normal and not a disorder. I'm right now trying to find a therapist to help me sort through this.

@@amydefe in a less public forum, I'd discuss a number of things I've learned regarding SSRI's, but some of it is relatively new data, and it's a bit sparse....I wouldn't want someone to read my words, take them as gospel and act upon them as a solid source of learning, there's already enough of that to last till next century.....and besides that, this is YOUR channel, so I don't want to monopolize the comment section.
Some of the latest research with psychedelics shows the amazing amount of potential both for treatment of depression, but even more shocking is the effects shown on alcohol abstinence and breaking addictive cycles.
I'm glad that you are doing informative videos like this......the medical community hasn't been as revealing to their patients due to time, and sheer volumes of other things to remember. But even so, a pharmacist would have a difficult time expressing everything about how SSRI's treat depression, because in part, medical science kind of doesn't really know for sure.

I’ve also been in therapy, groups, I’m a year and a half sober, tried TMS, Ketamine Infusions, and I’m still suffering terribly. It’s to the point I fantasize about suicide, and know I’m going to have to surrender to the idea of trying SSRI’s like Lexapro to combat this but I’m terrified of the side effect horror stories. What many people miss is that the effect is hyperbolic. Roughly: The last 10 % of the dose can have still high effect on serotonin receptors. Not even %-age tapering is enough, let alone linear.

last friday my therapist brought up trying to see if an SSRI would help me with my anxiety. i don’t have depression just anxiety…
I’ve been really debating it bc i feel like if i take it it’ll make me feel defeated bc i can’t get rid of it alone. also i don’t wanna be dependent on a substance to feel “okay”. i wanna be able to do it alone. but it’s been 2 years so idk what to do. i might try it…
but also I’ve heard they can made you feel more anxious in the beginning and i DO NOT need anymore anxiety at all :c conflicted

Hi. From my experience, let me tell you that yes, for sure from the beginning it can make you feel more anxious but it is worth it. As soon as, it hits you, you will feel better and better every day. I am not saying that you should take SSRI, I'm just telling my experience. If you are considering to take medication don't be afraid.

Please research Robert Whitaker before taking any antidepressant medication. He was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in his work on the subject. Antidepressants can work up to three or four years and then you’re worse off than you were and dependent on medication and now with side effects. His evidence based medicine research is world renowned and published. He has two books. ‘Anatomy of an epidemic’, and ‘mad in America’. Please read and be informed before doing this to your brain and body.
