Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another video by Les Rita Mitsouko with "ANDY." And things just got wackier and weirder BUT all for the better. Catch me swaying, bopping, bouncing! This one is good, find out why!

This takes me back to when I was 18 and spent a summer in France, living in a small medieval hilltop village. At the bottom of the hill, there was a bar/restaurant that had a jukebox. This is how I discovered Les Rita Mitsuko, hanging out with french teenagers in the the middle of the countryside. Thanks for the memories!

I tried to translate better the lyrics:
    Hey, Andy? Hey, Andy!
It's a friend of mine who told me you were named Andy!
I've been following you for a while, Andy!
Hey, do you want to come to my home ?
Or we can go to yours!
Come on, Andy, tell me yes!
Honey, Andy, tell me yes, Andy !
Honey, Andy, tell me yes, darling !
    The weather is worsening
    Andy is upset about that
    Andy takes his umbrella
Andy scratches the corner of his brow
    It's Andy Cap
    p
    Yes it's him
Honey, Andy, tell me yes, Andy !
Honey, Andy, tell me yes, oh yes !
    Andy hurries
    Andy is suspicious
Andy hasn't made up his mind
    Does he want this ?
Andy looks at the girl and smiles
    Andy is a polite boy
Andy hasn't made up his mind
    Andy is suspicious
    Andy hurries
    And goes back home
    Andy always avoided trouble
    Andy hurries

It's so fun to see you discover the Rita Mistsouko again ! Les Rita Mitsouko were really big in France, if you put on one of their hits at a party everybody will scream all the lyrics. They are all cult classics here :) I would love to see you react to "les amants" and "la sorcière et l'inquisiteur" (this one is much more recent)

I was young in the eighties and i remember when the Rita's appeared in the french musical landscape : at last a french group ( with french lyrics) who brought a fresh air, something new , more creative , original and in some way "underground" than the mainstream singers we could hear on the radio at this time. And also their visual universe was new, their first clips were made by one of the best french clipmaker of the moment; yes it was a little weird , but so unconventionnal :-) . Fred Chichin died a few years ago, but Catherine is still there and always a great singer ! Have a good day.

Hi Dereck! I notice that you're becoming the most French of the American!!! lol Do you know this week you reacted on 5 French artists or groups??
Indochine, France Gall, Mylène Farmer, Alizée and now The Rita Misouko! It's the first time that you do the same and it shows us that you love our artists and our culture as well as French singers.
It's INCREDIBLE and you're AMAZING everytime dude! We like it a lot and we appreciate it! Keep it up!!!
Rita Mitsouko have always been a "special", completely crazy and atypical group, whether in the music or the way they dress. Already at the time they denoted in the musical landscape and no one else looked like them.
This song released in June 1986 ( at the same time as side B "Un Soir, Un Chien" :" One Evening, A Dog") and taken from their second album " The No Comprendo" released in September 1986.
It refers to Andy Capp, hero of an eponymous comic book created by English author Reg Smythe.
The video is directed by Philippe Gautier, in English and French versions.
Do you konow an English Version exists?? link here : czcams.com/video/aGupRQiBjTM/video.html .
For the NEXT REACT I advise you a "duo" with The Sparks ( An American group since 70's), the song "Singing In The Shower" in 1988 (my favorite one!) taken from " Marc Et Robert" album.
Link here : czcams.com/video/T6gwIgsHMis/video.html , and Le Petit Train (The Little Train) the same year, a song about the deportation of Jewish people to extermination camps.
    Link : czcams.com/video/Pn5X4_JCJgg/video.html .
If you like french music, another group but different (you already
reacted on 'em): NIAGARA with L'Amour A la Plage, Je Dois M'En Aller,
Quand La Ville Dort (New Version 1987), Assez!, Soleil D'Hiver (my
favorite one!), Flammes De L'Enfer (lots of brass instruments!), J'Ai Vu
(more rock!), Pendant Que Les Champs Brûlent, Psychotrope (more rock!),
La Vie Est Peut-Etre Belle (New Version 1991), La Fin Des Etoiles.

One thing that might be weird from a foreign perspective when you discover the Rita Mitsouko is when you find out how, for all their weird lyrics, post-punk aesthetics and general lack of artistic compromise they were universally beloved in France. People of all ages, cultural background and general taste loved them and respected their work. It really struck a chord with the french id.
