DIY: Rear break pads replacement on a BMW R1200-R/RT/GS (2005 - 2013)

  • Note that the brakes are the same from model year 2005 to 2013, when the drive shaft was on the right side of the wheel.
    ● Model: 2012 BMW R1200-R
    ● Engine generation: Boxer HP2
    ● BMW part number for those brake pads: « 34 21 7 660 281 »

    Great video and thank you for showing you don't need to buy a specialized tool to push the brake calipers back in place. I used a small clamp (those that are used in construction to keep two wooden boards that you glued together tightly pressed against one another...) A small clamp will suffice.
    On a second note, instead of using a nail I used a bolt - didn't want the pointy thing of the nail punching into the pointy thing on the pin. Pushing both ends of the break pads up also alleviates the pressure of the spring on the inside of the unit, allowing for an easier removal of the pin. It helps to have 3 hands.😁
