    Fenech was never the same after this, it robbed his fighting spirit... but the guy had freakish stamina and should've been boxing's first UNDEFEATED four division champion... he earned it against an all-time great in Nelson... boxing at its worst giving everyone fuel to call it corrupt or incompetent... but damn these guys, I'm exhausted just watching that 3rd round... both guys landing monster shots for most of the round!

      @@marknorris1381 Thing about Fenech is that cloak of invincibility he had crumbled after this decision... I think that had as much to do with it, as he was clearly not the same fighter... even in this fight, the Fenech of old would've thrown Nelson on the mat in the 12th when he was holding Nelson from falling to the canvas. At his best he was a fan friendly fighter who really had crazy cardio... FWIW, my favorite fights of his are the Payakaroon and Callejas fights, and I'd probably take Fenech's word for it on the Nelson decision, as what's the point in lying about it at this point...

  • @oncall21
    @oncall21 Před 2 lety +5

    Robbed!! Whenever Don King is around you know it's a fix. As for Ferdi the 'Doctor' (for Ali who should have quit his camp way into Ali's Parkinsons' got out of control) all he has to say about Fenech from the start is to trash him! Ferdi certainly cashed in after Ali as a 'commentator' and made a shit load while Don King ripped off Ali along with Holmes, Tyson and a string of others. This fight is the most one sided robberies I've ever seen! After the first two rounds Fenech has Nelson backed up into the ropes the whole time and never hurt. Round 10 and Azuma's corner plays the old 'missing mouth piece' to try and rest their man. In the final round Azuma was so hurt that if the fight went on for another 30 seconds he would have ended up on the canvas.

    • @user-uo8yh9tb8g
      @user-uo8yh9tb8g Před rokem +1

      Well, to his credit, Ferdi had Fenech way ahead and told Nelson to his face as much and barked at Buffalo Martin who said Azumah won it... I think in the beginning, he just though Nelson was better... no harm there... but I knew what was going to happen, and Jeff did just what I thought he'd do... make Azumah look old. This fight bothers me a lot, because one guy got robbed, and it effectively ended his career just as surely as Nelson, Grove, and Holiday did. But he earned that 4th weight class title, and he would've done it as an undefeated fighter... a first. At the time of this fight Villasana was a featherweight champ, Zarragoza was a 122 pound champ, and Greg Richardson was a bantamweight champ... Fenech had already beaten all three of them... that's how special this guy really was...

    • @exspiravit6920

      Yall need to take your feet off Ferdi Pacheco's balls for about 5 minutes. That guy was good in boxing, especially in his younger years, and slightly annoying in his older years. It's NOT HIS FAULT that Ali's fkn handlers kept him there, and "making a shitload of $$ commentating" as ppl like to say, makes him a smart Mfkr. He also came to his sense here and had Fenech winning. Even defending him. Now shut up.

    Fennech surely remembers what they did in Australia to the great Zárate. Karma!

    You won only one round convincingly. What about the other rounds? Azumah won in my opinion.

    Buffalo Martin was a first class fool and a man of indecent application, lacking in ethics and ability.

      Gilbert in the 2nd fight his hands were gone forever.......but he still fought and you MUST remember even in the first fight his hands were basically stuffed...yet he won this fight easy and if his hands had been good in the 2nd fight it would have been good night Nelson, as it was it was nearly that way.

    Azuma proved he was Professor in Boxing. YES Fenech was busy in the ring but who was accurate and landed more punches?

      WBC just overturned the 1989 decision and awarded Fenech the belt today. Justice is served.

    Fenech won: 3,5,7,10,12
    Rounds 6,8 were swing rounds which could go to either fighter

    Bunch of excuses! Yes he got an unjust decision in the first fight, but to say a "decision" ruined his career is ridiculous. Azuma was truly just the better fighter.

    Fenech was behaving like he was playing rugby. Aggressiveness doesn't mean you've won. Nelson won to me.

    The WBC has overruled the shocking decision to make this bout a draw and has awarded Fenech the decision and Duran, Chavez & Cotto presented the Marackville Mauler with is WBC belt, long overdue but richly deserved.
