8 years older than Jeff, I and my wife followed him from the Commonwealth games. We had our own sports, but boxing requires each day commitment. I would swim train morning and night but I could eat and drink what I wanted. Jeff couldn't. Onya Jeff.
jeff fenech was a great fighter and achieved so much in his career,he always gave his best and with belts in 3 divsion will go down as one of the best.
And it should've been four divisions as there's no way in hell the Azumah fight was even close... 9 rounds to 3 for Fenech I had it... and that decision ruined him as a fighter too

The WBC have rejudged & reversed the Azumah Nelson drawn decision to a majority win for Fenech, so Jeff is now officially a 4 time world champion in 4 different weight divisions. I wonder how many other 4 time world champions is boxing history never lost any of their 4 belts in the ring?
Fenech falls into my Top 10 list of favorite fighters ever. Mike Tyson, Hagler, Whitaker, Norris, Camacho, Roy Jones, Tapia, Gatti, Pazienza and Fenech. Balls to the wall type of fighters who were probably influenced by my favorite old timer Jack Dempsey. Just ferocious!!
Fenech was one of my favorite fighters, and he should've been the first undefeated 4 weight class champion, as I had the first Nelson fight 10-2, 9-3... now it has actually been overturned... I'm happy for Jeff but I think that starts a bad precedent. In any event, the emotional blow of that decision ruined him as a fighter... he was never the same after that, and that's a shame. At his best he was an all-time pressure fighter who could box a bit better than generally given credit for too... with his chronic hand problems it's a wonder he accomplished as much as he did. My favorite fights of his are his crushing of undefeated champ and all-time kick boxing champ too, Samart Payakaroon, and his featherweight title victory of the very tough Victor Callejas... plus Nelson I, where he did to the all-time great Nelson what he did to everybody... he physically ragdolled him from pillar to post
I love Fenech and his fighting style but I have heard so many countless stories from good people in Sydney about what an asshole he was that I just cannot discount it.
As much as i love Jeff, i don't know how the ref stopped the fight against the Japanese champion. He was still holding his hands up, although i doubt he would've won, it was ended to early
Antipodean33 Shingaki? If a fighter has a big cut there is potential for it to get very bad if the fight continues. A punch can open it up even more, causing permanent damage.
mrmillford I'll have to watch it again, i can't remember if the Japanese boxer was cut or not. I thought it got stopped because he was taking a beating, but i thought he still looked ok. i can't remember the cut though

Peter is a real good Freand of yours he would do the same for you Jeff he would put his life on the line as I had my moments with Peter at Tempe high school when he wanted to play in my finals in soccer as I was the captain he didn't like it when I said he couldn't play as I had to let my team mates who been there all session have a go and I will only put our best and mate you've haven't been playing at all you can no come at the and and say I am playing yes he had all his country man Freands but i was hot-blooded when it come to my soccer we had a fight just live it at that it was befor he dun boxing and that same game I scored 2 goals laing for my 3rd then i get kicked from behind I king-hit this kid his eyes popped out we where disulphide 3_0 we had enmore but i got kicked out out school as I fought 3 weeks earlier wear I had to go in the principal office and drag this kid who gives me up from behind the chair of the princpal office i was tood get out and dont come back .

What a man! True IDOL! I feel that once his dad passed away he lost a lot of the determination which put him on another level.
