  • The pigeonhole man is looking for the True Catholics. On his way he meets Catholics who experience and express their faith in very different ways. Thus he experiences the distinction between orthodoxy and freethinking. Where does that multiformity come from? What makes somebody a good catholic? How are modern Dutch Catholics dealing with centuries-old traditions and regulations that are so typical of the Catholic Church? And what does the church, plagued by scandals and image damage, do in order to make catholicism attractive again to young Catholics?
    Original title: De Hokjesman - De Katholieken
    Fascinated by the prevailing pigeonhole spirit, the pigeonhole man goes on field research into the world of appealing Dutch subcultures. With a wink to the classical ethnologist, dressed in a three-piece suit with a bow tie, he analyzes the man as one of the animal groups.

    I hope the truly Catholic Church emerges from the ashes of self-destruction that the Novos Ordo church has caused. God bless Netherlands and faithful catholics there.

    in one generation, the Faith of Catholic people in the Netherlands virtually died. Like many other places now there is only a remnant still there

    The poor Dutch. But I can't say much better about my Fatherland of Germany. Thank you Vatican II and Pope John for "opening the windows" but a lot of the progressivism came from Holland, Germany, and France. The answer is to return to Tradition----the Roman Mass, the traditional sacraments and ways of doing things. It worked for a thousand years and the Church flourished even in the face of the Protestant revolt.

      Joseph Kretschmer Tradition in the parade grounds, Vatican II in the battlefield. What I mean by 'parade grounds' is our Catholic life, the mass, etc. What I mean by 'battlefield' is how we deal with non-Catholics and the secular culture. We can't deal with the world via the 'traditional' ways of the Inquisition, finger wagging, 'you're going to hell' attitude. We're going to lose if we insist on those methods. Soldiers are usually very keen to keep tradition alive on the parade grounds, even if it means wearing uncomfortable uniforms, but they won't say stupid things like, 'Hey, Sarge, the old 19th century firearms are better because it's our unit's traditional weapon.' Vatican II was supposed to be primarily about how the Church dealt with the world, not about how to 'modernize' dogmas. Do you agree?

    The time of liberal Catholics and conservatives is over; what we sorely need is Catholics professing the age old faith in a new way. Pray to the HOLY SPIRIT for guidance.

    Here in England there is a shortage of Priests as well, our Priests used to come from Ireland , but few boys join the priesthood any more, the main reason is that they cannot be married. Let men be married and the younger generation would be more encouraged to take up the calling.
    The Church now has to get Priests from India, Goa, but the Indian accent is difficult to understand at Mass.

      Do you suppose it's because the popular culture has forgotten or has less understanding of what a blessing the gift of chastity is?

    • @losttime3274
      @losttime3274 Před 4 lety +6

      I believe that a priest is already a father and husband to his Church. The reason why there are less priests today is because there are more distractions in the world now more than ever. There are more divorces, confusion and fear of a bigger responsibility such as leading a whole congregation constantly attacked by secularism.

    The Dutch are a lovely people. They have a great hockey team, an equally great football team, a venerable royal family , magnificent churches , celestial church music and a very beautiful national anthem Wilhelmus. The Dutch have failed to admire their own traditions just like a pebble in the river bed fails to absorb water. Many Dutch have chosen to barter their faith and culture with an alien faith and culture.

    The Church is in a very bad way with seemingly no way out. I can only say this; stay the orthodox course but be open to new and revolutionary ideas. Want to be 'creative' live the old but be open to the new.

    The end of Christianity was World War 1 and 2. Serbia Orthodox Christians who received the support from the Christian Orthodox Russians to wage war with the Roman Catholic Austrian Hungarian Empire. They received support from the Protestant and Roman Catholic Germans who were declared war by the Anglican Church British empire assisted by the Catholic French and Belgians. Nice God fearing Christians killing each other by the millions. 3 Christian empires were replaced by 2 new movements National Socialist and Communist to continue the fun because they came up second best.The odd one out was the Caliphate of the Ottomans whose spoils of previous conquests were administered by the French and the British who thought it was clever to teach the local fundamentalists how to blow things up (they never looked back). Now see the churches in the 2nd half of the 20th century, teaching the gospel of which every rule was broken during the previous 40 years. No don't blame the introduced policies of the 50's and 60's it was already too late. The scare tactics used when I was brought up no longer worked. Go to church otherwise you will burn burn forever were the threats of the Christian brother, confession go otherwise you will burn burn forever. At confession you played with your toy had the response you will burn burn forever. By the end of the 20th century more corruption was exposed the good priests and brothers also played around. Cynical people make bad followers.
