    People find it funny to make fun of Kanye West and say he's not a genius, but musically he IS a genius, no other artist EVER, has taken such a journey through musical evolution in their career, like Kanye West has. Listen to College Drop Out, then Late Registration, then Graduation, then 808s, then Dark Fantasy, and tell me that isn't an insane evolution that could never be replicated.

      Kanye's a dope artist and producer, but genius is a bit of a stretch. To say Kanye is a musical genius is to put him in the same category as a Mozart or a Beethoven. Quincy Jones himself said as much. He used to compose full scores on napkins in restaurants without even hearing anything he was composing. Kanye will never be able to do that.

    • @YourPalHDee
      @YourPalHDee Před 7 lety +65

      Jayblack1984 I've got to say like, things like that aren't proven. And is genius defined by those surrounding?
      like how we say Dogs are intelligent.. they're really not, they're stupid as fuck, but compared to most animals they are.
      My opinion is that Kanye is a musical genius. He's evolved and pushed music forward more than anybody else in the past like 5 generations of music.

    • @Jayblack1984
      @Jayblack1984 Před 7 lety +4

    I think a LOT of the people commenting here need to learn about the sample culture. It's not just finding a sample and then taking the sound and using it. If that's the case anybody that's ever used a digital recreation of any SOUND at all is SAMPLING that sound. He's not sampling drums, he's not sampling rhythm, he's not sampling lyrics...he is taking old songs and finding creative ways to make them sound new and refreshing and reintroducing them to the world again. Sampling in itself is an art form, but hey, haters have a job to do, so don't let me stop you.

      Dermot Roche bandawhat33 Those are great legends sir but you have to understand that hip-hop culture is based a whole lot on sampling these greats from the past. It pays homage to what was done in the past and sometimes gives those songs a second life in a new genration. I personally enjot looking up the songs sampled in my favourite hip hop music and just enjoying the good music from the past. Kanye is an extensively talented producer, and the way he makes use of classic soul and rock music was unprecedented. He revolutionised the entire industry. His lyrics usually have a lot more substance than most of the "rappers" that we have today. Sure he has his personality flaws but I don't think that should take away from his talent and all that he has done for the hip hop culture and music industry as a whole.

    • @bandawhat33
      @bandawhat33 Před 9 lety +1

      Brent Titus he has no musical talent. He doesn't write the songs or compose the music... He can't play an instrument. He doesn't sing. Any idiot can rap. the people working for him are the ones that sample the music and put it all together. that's not talent at all. i personally don't like his rapping but if anything let's say you do... you'd have to say that he's a good lyricist or poet but you can't call him a musician because he's not. music just aint his thing. and we live in a pretty a.d.d. culture today where people have the attention span of a fish and so people can't enjoy a song anymore without some baboon like kanye west spreading his idiot message and "rapping" through it and basically ruining a beautiful song.

Fear has always held me back but I give a lot of credit to Kanye's openness in pursuing his dreams and not being driven by fear to inspire me now that I'm in my 30s. It must be hard being a female trying to succeed in the music industry, but it's definitely not impossible, I'm pretty sure you are talented, don't be afraid, you CAN do it :)), everything is hard in the beginning, and if you don't try... You'll never know... I have a similar dream, and I am afraid at times, or doubtful, but we need to try, and enjoy it, cause at the end of the day... Is our passion :).

      +Stephanie Moran that happens to me very often, my dream is being a pop singer/songwriter/producer, and I'm studying music right now, and I have singing classes at school, but I'm very insecure about my voice, even though I've been told that I'm good, and even when I have to practice, I get afraid, and sometimes I don't even practice because of the fear, I think I just don't feel good enough. Sometimes what helps me, even when it might sound depressive, is that everyone will die someday, and it won't matter if we succeeded or not, or our mistakes, there will not be people to judge what happened, the point is to enjoy what we do, no matter were it takes us, if you love it, go for it :)).

      Kanye has pushed and innovated the genre of hip hop for the past 10 years, even influencing huge pop and indie artists with their music and performances (James Blake, U2, Katy Perry, Haim, etc.). And out of all the genres in the 21st century, hip hop is one of the most progressive genres at the moment. Which is obvious considering it is such a young genre. Kanye's influence on hip hop is up there with artists like Rakim, Nas, and Eminem. All of those artists helped make rap more accessible and mainstream. Kanye proved to the world that rap goes above someone rapping over a looped drum beat and that there can be tons of ways to musically be creative with the genre. And that is something that is REALLY starting to take form with the high number of artists right now with very creative and unique styles in the genre.
