It fared better than I thought it would, it'll probably dry out from the moisture it absorbed. I'm glad it's your guitar & not mine. I live in humid FL and close enough to the ocean. This guitar is basically in the condition it was in because of the fluctuations in temperature & moisture of humidity of a normal days range with rainy & sunny days. Maybe it was buried deep enough to be relatively constant that some of that variance didn't effect it. One thing may have helped in the test was the dirt packing around it to support it and not allow anything to drift appreciably out of alignment. But the fact the fretboard & frets were choking out is indicative that the fretboard oiling didn't repel enough of the moisture. Would be interesting to see how it settles as cleaned up and sitting around the studio/house. As I posted, I live in humid/hot FL and the temperatures are going to be at least 20 degrees difference during any given day. I bought a 2005 Squier Bullet SSS HT Strat and it was filthy for being 14 years old when I bought it summer 2019. Rusty strings, nasty fretboard, loose & sloppier stripped screws, needing major truss rod adjustments. You could tell it was used, neglected & abused, but it cleaned up well. The electronics were fine when I got it, but it has developed some snap, crackle & pop a year later when the knobs are turned, so contact cleaner is in order to restore it to smooth operation. The chrome was even developing some rust for the bridge plate & saddles & their screws. I think with the Gibson LP, it plays, will need some restoration and conditioning. That abuse & neglect, not that it's exposed to air will need to be periodically maintained so that rust & corrosion don't creep in. This was short term, 30 days isn't years or decades, so it wasn't like finding a barnacled covered object on the ocean floor that's been in sediment for decades like the Titanic, a WW II weapon of war or some 1600's Spanish Galleon treasure chest. EDIT: entertainment at its finest
Great point, love your sense of humor. Yes, Rory Gallagher's Strat was the first one ever to be sold in Irelend, it got ripped off, you probably know, and it was found in a ditch, exposed to rain and, the Little People, the Good Folk, as it were. Anyways, yeah, people are way to fetishizing of their guitars. Seriously. I love your point you've made here.
I need to find a brown paper bag to hyper ventilate in before I even start watching...ok...ready...wait...yup ready. Look at that a new way to rustic a guitar, you're an innovator now!! The case will never be the same again though. Are there no speed limits on the dark desert highway?? And you have a new way to sand the callouses on your fingers down! This was just too funny " it has a dirty tone". Loved watching this. What next, a tsunami??
Scraping the dirt off with the shovel got me.
