    I've bought TWO of these off Ebay, both '85 editions, white with blood splatter. At the time of issue there was no electronic printer to recreate the blood splatter digitally so each one is hand splattered and has it's own unique pattern. The first one was in bad shape so I took it apart to repair it. While it was disassembled my wife and kids cleaned out the garage and threw away everything they thought was junk. I flipped out. Summer 2017 I bought another in great shape, hard case with red velvet liner, $350.

    I have two original HM 20's from the '80s. A white one with black binding that I bought new in 1986 which cost me £525 - pretty much every penny I had!!...and a black one with red binding that I bought pre-owned about 5 years later as a backup. Unfortunately, the black one, unknown to me before it arrived at my door, had been heavily modded and was a little beaten up! The amazing original Wonderbar trem had been replaced by a Floyd (which, personally I struggle to get on with). I decided to keep it anyway. They are amazing guitars and I was pleased to see them reissued a few years ago.

    I do remember those guitars. I never owned one, but do remember spending some time with one in a music store thinking about buying it. If memory serves it had the "Kahler" 2200 series Tremolo on it, and was I believe white in color. Not a bad guitar, at least it didn't have the "Washburn" "Wonderbar" Tremolo on it, which would have added about three more pounds to the guitar, if you ever used one of them. I ended up buying a 85 Carvin V-220 with the Kahler 2200 whammy on it. William C.

    • @Bionicycle
      @Bionicycle Před 5 lety

      @@GuitarMAXMusic I owned my red Carvin V-220 from brand new in 1985 to 2016 (31 years). It's not that I "loved" that guitar that much, I had dozens of other guitars during that time too. It was I just never sold it all that time, and would keep going back to playing it on a regular basis. It was all original when I sold it with the 22 pole piece Carvin S.D. pickups, and the Kahler tremolo. The only thing I ever replaced on it was the original "Brass Nut" (installed Graphite), the high E, and B string cut through that nut like it was a block of cheddar cheese and ruined the intonation and sound of those two strings as they rattled in the nut groove. Only other complaint living in Indiana where we go from desert dry air in the winter time, to Amazon rain forest humidity in the summer, the necks on those early set neck V-220's seemed to be very sensitive to warping. It took years to get just the right compromise in the truss rod adjustment. Anyway though, back on topic, I would love to see you get a hold of one to run through its' paces, they had great tone. Keep up the great videos. William C. Sorry about the long reply, but I can talk about guitars for hours. :)

    I bought a Washburn HM-5V in June of 1987. My family owned a video rental store and I convinced them to become a Washburn dealership because the mark up was 100%. The retail on this guitar was $449 and I got it for $224.50 with money I had received from graduating gifts. I bought 2 of them and sold 1 right away and made a few bucks. I kept the other for a while, but wanted the AF-40, which was the Ace Frehley model. I sold the 5V and ordered the AF, but it was back ordered. I waited a month or so, then bought a Kramer Striker 500 ST. I would love to find a HM -5V, or the upgraded HM-20V.

    I had an original series in white, with a Washburn Wonder bar trem, bound body. I loved that guitar, but sadly it was stolen. I really wish I had it today! By the way, the Wonderbar was a Kahler style system, but it was bulky, too big, and it worked decently enough, but it would have been better with the Kahler or the Floyd. Sorry, I still use both systems. Nice find! I played one of the re- issues, and was in love! I've always preffered the non- conformist body shapes. B.C. Rich, Charvel star bodies, Kramer Voyagers,Carvin 220v, Hamer Scarab, etc. I still have many of them today, but after watching this video, I'm on the hunt for another one!!!

    You know, Rogue Guitars had some Ibanez RG-550/RG-450DX knock-offs for $200 to $250 dollars back in early 1997 in their Musician's Friend catalog. I believe they were the RX series. It wasn't that I didn't have the money - ordering online wasn't a fully trusted purchasing method much back then. I regret it now because there is not one single mention about them on the internet today. It's like they never existed. $200 for a new guitar with a floyd rose bridge was definitely a steal back then.

      The problem is finding a tuner that has the presets for intonation. Also, most guys that own BFTS equipped guitars or basses rarely know what it is and without those presets to adjust intonation their basically a normal guitar in terms of intonation.

    • @bumpyroad3251
      @bumpyroad3251 Před 5 lety

      @@greyfoxzero No need for special tuners - BFTS makes the guitar sound much better all over the neck - especially when playing chords and needing each string to be in tune with more than itself (standart intonation). If you don't have a tuner specilly equipped for BFTS best way IMO is to tune every E - 1-st string open, 5 fret on second string, 9 fret on G string, etc). If you insist on using a tuner to tune your guitar a Korg DT7 will suffice, but even tuned by ear a BFTS equipped guitar would sound better than a regular guitar.

    • @greyfoxzero
      @greyfoxzero Před 5 lety

      @@bumpyroad3251 In order to properly intonate a BFTS equipped guitar you need the presets. Intonating one without the presets on the tuner makes having the system useless. Peterson puts it on some of their tuners.

    • @greyfoxzero
      @greyfoxzero Před 5 lety

      @@bumpyroad3251 Google BFTS presets and it will bring up the Peterson tuners website page that explains all of this. Acoustic guitars dont apply since their bridge is fixed already to the preset but basses and guitars with adjustable bridges absolutely need the presets to benefit from the system.

    That thing looks amazing. I've never seen one before. When I saw your thumbnail I thought it looked a bit like the Lado guitar Adrian Smith used on the Powerslave tour with Maiden. Really wish Washburn still made these - I'd definitely be interested in picking one up.

    I had a series10 (brand) copy of the 80's model. it was Ferrari red and was a bad ass shredder for a copy. As to the Kahler(better far and away) VS Floyd(still damn good) People like what they like.

    Definitely similar to the Kelly, but my favorite is the neck through Mockingbird with Floyd with added mass block, and adjusted polepiece Mafia pickups.

    I got Washburn's W100 many years ago from PMT guitars in the UK. Didn't have much money back then but was surprised at the product I got for the amount. It has Egnator pick ups and is also made in Indonesia. The quality of craftsmanship and the overall feel is great..I am sure this one must be a million times better but it's not always you see Indonesian guitars.

    I have an original, they came with a Washburn Wonderbar not a Kahler, which is a torsion bar no route top mount trem. Mines the black/red binding model.

  • @theelectrodefunhouse4651

    The original model had what was called a Washburn Wonderbar trem which was made to compete with the Floyd Rose and Kahler. While it did perform ok it had limited ranged and looked like a massive eye sore.
