I was very sorry when they retired. But throughout the produced consistently high quality music. And, they went out right on top!!! Thanks to all members of MT
That is me Mrs Tucker 25 years ago...it was one of my first gigs in the business I was 25 at the time and I think I look your now at 50+ then I was back then..Enjoy it is still one of my personal favorite videos
I saw the Vocalese tour in Pittsburgh PA. Weather was bad, and they were late getting to the show. But man did they show up. They closed the show with this song and it's something I'll never forget. Really brought the house down. Now every time I hear this song, I remember watching this insanely talented group just tear it up.
I owned this on VHS, & the tape broke. This song & " To You" are absolutely the very best of MT & what they were capable of doing. RIP, Tim Hauser . ----------Wolfsky9, 70 y/o
A TMT fan from the start, I love everything they have produced, I believe this is their best arrangement of anything they have produced. It's perfection. Harmony is so tight you could bounce a 747 on it. Rip Tim.
just had my daughter, son in law and my son over having for a BBQ brisket my neighbor made for me. we took a vote that this is the music to listen to during good times and bad. it just makes you rock!
I saw " MT" 10 times --from '76, to '95, & they never failed to deliver a class act, all the way. Cheryl was definitely a huge addition & turning point in what the group could do vocally. She's a pure Soprano, whereas Laurel was a contralto who could reach Mezzo range. ------------------------------Wolfsky9
Ditto what wolfsky9 said. They are the real thing vocally...which I got to enjoy over and over in person, many many times. Last time I saw them was in San Francisco just a couple months after Tim's passing. A very heartfelt evening indeed.
my sisters and myself will be singing this song for my 50th birthday celebration June this year. I first heard this song years ago when I went to DC and loved it. enjoy fast dancing to it.
Wow, I haven't seen this video in 30 years, and since I have found it, I listen to it 5 times a day. They don't make music or sing like this anymore. Pity.
This is the song which made me fall in love with The Manhattan Transfer when I saw this video on VH1 thirty-five years ago (good grief...has it really been THAT long????)
I've always loved The Manhattan Transfer, and I particularly love this video and that album. Remember Jon Hendricks as one of the Venice Boys in "White Men Can't Jump?" He's fantastic!!! They did a great job on "Vocalese."
The song cooks from the get-go but it comes to the boil at 2:59 and goes to another level at 3:25 - by now everyone is on the floor, jiving and breaking into a sweat. Bring back the juke joints.
31 years ago ! I was 39 y/o, almost 40. -----this video was just so awesome, & was played on : MTV / VH1/ BET. Yes, it was a rare triple play! --------------------Wolfsky9
"The Manhattan Transfer" by itself is not acceptable. The membership of The Manhattan Transfer has changed over the years. Subtext needs to be who was the Manhattan Transfer of the time. Tim Houser? Cheryl Bentyne?
this song is SO UN-WOKE! I'm surprised CZcams hasn't yanked it. 1. four jazz singers who are white?! - cultural appropriation! 2. a heavy set WPOC (woman person of color) with a boa, feathered hat, and wide eyes?! - racial stereotypes! 3. a young POC who is good on a sax?! - microaggression! (how does that make the young POCs who are NOT good on a sax feel?) I could go on, but I'm too triggered......I'm going to my safe space now
This video, a great one by the super jazz vocal quartet, THE MANHATTEN TRANFER came to me almost grossly, absurdly listed as "rock" which it CLEARLY is NOT !!! NO, this is highly SYNCOPATED (rock is NOT!) . This is not "rock' n roll either...not close! This is BLUES-BASED SWING JAZZ !! Please don't desecrate it.
That's what you call REAL MUSIC, REAL SINGING, REAL INSTRUMENTS, NO COMPUTERS.
Mrs Tucker kinda thinking bout letting Sam stay a while
Looks like she's bout to stay awhile her damned self❤❤❤❤❤❤
No computers? That's a vocoder of Tim Hauser's voice saying "I said yeeeeeeahhh." Come on now.
I was very sorry when they retired. But throughout the produced consistently high quality music. And, they went out right on top!!! Thanks to all members of MT

You and the gang made for great fun this morning!!! A nice break from covid-19!
Just as good as the first time I heard it, decades, a lifetime ago

Masterful, hypnotic, and soul-rocking! How I wish I had seen them in concert live!
I wish I would have too.

J·adore vôtre jazz vocal ...Beau morceau ...
My all time favorite group of this or any other century
This is one of my favorite songs
My all-time favorite music video. I know someone who still owns the original LaserDisk and a player. I will try to obtain and post a better copy.
Did this ever end up happening?
Pure talent!
Never even knew it would be here.
This song with twilight,Birdland was my favs!
It was a few years back that I saw them on a TV show. They are different and damn good. Been hooked every since
I've always loved The Manhattan Transfer, and I particularly love this video and that album. Remember Jon Hendricks as one of the Venice Boys in "White Men Can't Jump?" He's fantastic!!! They did a great job on "Vocalese."
Love the song and video still to this day!!!
How I miss Manhattan Transfer. This jam was (and still is) so cool, and, yeah, I remember Levar Burton's cameo.
Awesome song!
CONSUMATE performers. Articulate and PRECISE. True professionals !

Love the Jon Hendricks vocal "sax" solo -- he's an inspiration to learn & train for riffs & runs...
Yeah yeah you know, I got to rock, I got to roll
LeVar Burton (Reading Rainbow, ST:TNG) rockin' out in the crowd at 3:15!
I can only imagine the fun everyone had making this video!!! -------------Wolfsky9,70 y/o

Ain't that Ms.Tucker from surg eavfre FATHER'S church in the color purple ( JUMP SHOT JOHNSON) HILL DISTRICT PITTSBURGH, PA.
This is Ray's Rock House and that's Ray Charles on the Scat... Awesome!
No, that’s Jon Hendricks (the man who wrote the lyrics) scatting.
Who is the scat singer?
"The Manhattan Transfer" by itself is not acceptable. The membership of The Manhattan Transfer has changed over the years. Subtext needs to be who was the Manhattan Transfer of the time. Tim Houser? Cheryl Bentyne?
Mrs Tucker just needs to chill! 😊
LeVar Burton at 3:14??
John Hendricks - wrote the number - pioneer of vocalese
