Please make a part-2 for more advance gaming tips:
    - Installing games with custom installers like DVD setups and games you just extract (so no install) or an executable zip/rar.
    - Game modding
    - Using game trainers
    - VR gaming
    - How set up a DosBox game
    - Games that don't have a Lutris install scrip
    - Emulation (and therefor also, installing controllers)

For Vulkan you either don't need to do anything in case of most distros as RADV is a part of Mesa (the open source graphic "driver") or if using more DIY distro like Arch installing additional packages like vulkan-radeon that provides RADV support. And obviously there is nvidia with their binary blob that should have everything prepackaged.
For any troubles with controllers, emulation, etc. I highly recommend using Arch wiki no matter what distro you use. In any topic it has many solutions to common problems that should work everywhere or just changing some path/name of package.

      @autotropicplaybench1819 Před rokem +3

This is anecdotal but I will say that having vulkan-radeon (Mesa) and amdvlk (GPUOpen) is good to try.
With EndeavourOS I find Apex Legends to perform slightly better with amdvlk, whereas in Dishonored 2 while I did get higher FPS via amdvlk there were some few stutters that didn't seem to be caued by shader compilation, since with vulkan-radeon those stutters were gone (but at the cost of slightly lower FPS and a tad worse but still manageable frametimes).

I've used Debian and Arch for years but my HW is so new that I wasn't able to get anything below 6.0 kernel livecd to even boot or install. Finally decided to try Nobara with kernel 6.1.4 and after a few hickups, wayland used 100% CPU before I managed to install NVIDIA drivers and boot, it's been running well for a day or two. Apex Legends plays super smooth, even smoother than in Windows 11. No tearing, frame skips or anything like that. Now I can stay on linux 99% of time. I managed to get noise suppression working with werman/noise-suppression-for-voice plugin. It's almost as good as RTX Voice/NVIDIA Broadcast.

The biggest hurdle I'm facing now is that some games (namely satisfactory) do not behave well with dual monitors with different refresh rates. I don't consider myself a gamer but I have used linux as my daily os since 1995 and I work in IT with linux since 1997. Due to memory issues from cancer treatment, drs recommend in 2021 I play games. My employer purchased a nintendo switch for me to help pass time during long chemo treatment days in 2020. I started playing games on it. Once I realized green hell had better graphics on computer vs nintendo switch, I changed over to using steam. Steam works very well with proton. All was well for many months but the last few months I have been totally aggravated with AMD crashing practically non-stop during game play. So if you have an amd graphics card, lets just say for several weeks/months now gaming has not been much fun and I know I am not the only person suffering from this.

I have a few computers that have windows 10 that dont meet the requirements for windows 11, one is an laptop which I'm definitely installing Linux on soon. Another is a gaming PC... I will bypass the requirements for windows 11... If windows 11 doesn't work well/get security updates though... I'm a little less intimidated going the Linux route, seems like compatibility/emulation is looking pretty good. Plus it's clearly less bloated and more secure, gaming is really my only hesitation. I do play a mix of modern single player, retro and multiplayer games... But honestly I play online way more on my PS5... So I can probably deal with this.
Even if I did get a new gaming PC like Microsoft clearly wants me to do, having my old PC on Linux as an office PC or in my bedroom with some games is definitely a route I'll go

Tried Manjaro about 2 years ago. The OS had lagging animations of windows minimized/maximized and other annoying bugs in the UI. Whatever. Probably wrong distro for my system.
I played mainly GW2 at the time. Installed it. Barely managed to get it working with sound after a day of tinkering, reading, typing in the terminal and watching videos. And this is without any mods and add-ons that i normally use with the game, which may or may not work under linux.
I'm sorry but this is not ok. I want to use linux, i really do, i like it as an OS and i use it all the time at work, but a day to get a game properly working? No thanks. If it was an hour or two - who cares.
I understand that the majority of games are for Windows and getting them to run under Linux is normally a pain, but if people are to move away from the monopoly of Windows, things on Linux need to be a lot more streamlined and a lot more user friendly. After all, gaming is a leisure activity, not command prompt/terminal struggle with tutorials and forum advices.... Well.. to each their own, some people might enjoy that, but not my cup of tea and i imagine not the cup of tea to the larger mass of potential users, given the adoption rate of Linux for gaming at present.

This isn't really a guide for people to switch to Linux *because* they want to game on it, it's objectively an inferior option for most people. This is more meant for people who use Linux (for ideological or privacy/security reasons) *and* want to game on it. Of course not *everything* will work because like you said - it's made for windows, it's a damn miracle it works as well as it does. Right now with steam and some other game launchers, it's as streamlined as it can be - you press play and it works with most popular games. Everything else is gonna be a bit more of a pain but is still doable if you're dedicated to freedom and privacy over convenience like most Linux users are. Remember that people are developing most of those things for free, in their own free time, there's no single entity or corporation funding it or profiting from it, there's no one paying the developers. This is a community project and as such, it moves slower than commercial ones, but you can see the route all commercial projects seem to be heading and make your own choice.

One thing I wish was covered somewhere is how to get some pirated games running cause it can often be a hassle without any official support. And I don't mean modern titles actually available on platforms like steam, I mean older games that you can actually no longer buy anywhere with piracy being legit the only option to get them. Recently I wanted to get Harry Potter 2 working, my absolute childhood favourite, I owned a legit copy too, but even on Windows it's very hard to get it working nowadays. Using bottles, it took me ages to get it to work properly, get past many different crashes, mess with resolutions, apply some patches etc. I got so sick of it, by the time I got it working (and even then it only worked like half the time), I no longer felt like playing it xd

I recommend the tkg-bmq kernel, especially for AMD cpus.
Some games actually end up running better on Linux than they do on Windows, due to the kernel + Vulkan layer. And the opensource AMD drivers end up being faster for some GPUS like the rx580, because the community is still patching new optimisations in where as AMD has given up on the Windows drivers for those cards.
As for opencl, I have a computer with a APU, AMD does not support rocm (opencl) on those chips, but some heroes have patched it to work on Linux, so thats one thing Linux can do that Windows can't, because AMD says no.

I believe Linux will replace windows even more once graphics card drivers from actual companies allow their windows support software to be able to run on any Linux distribution such as Adrenalin Edition, GeForce Experience and Intel graphics card software (I can't remember what that software is called).
Basically if all three of these graphic drivers can run natively on any Linux distribution without relying on any other third party software and other ways to put on software without using the terminal like how Windows install they are software (I'm saying this if you want to bring people to the Linux environment you have to pour it in the way that doesn't scare people away from Linux distribution so I say you have to put in a way that is the ease of use) I believe this would make people think Linux might be the option to use instead of Windows.
So I'm saying Linux by having a look at it I would say it's nearly there it just needs to be at ease of use for those people who never use Linux before and once Linux have reached that ease of use for those people are not used to Linux everyone would most probably go straight to Linux instead of Windows especially if they know Linux is free.

That's what value is work towards. To make PCs just as big if not bigger then console gaming. To do that though you need to have a focus on one OS.
