- This is Karnataka Style "Bottle Gourd Kootu". It is simple and straight forward to prepare but tastes extremely tasty with hot steamed rice.

Ingredients:
Bottlegourd - 1/2 of the medium sized one
Pigeon pea lentils (toorl dal) - 1/2 cup
To grind
Coconut - 1/2 cup
Green chillies - 2 nos. (adjust to taste)
Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
Water as needed
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
Salt - 1 tbsp
Jaggery - 1 tsp (optional)
To temper
Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
White lentils - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Asafoetida (hing) - 1/4 tsp

Dal should be completely mashed ? Jaggery is compulsory ? I dont use Jaggery in food... pls reply waiting to try...
You can skip jaggery, mash the dal according to your preference
Hopefully it won't change the gr8 taste if jaggery is skipped..
