    I love showing up on my RT when there's a sea of Harleys (and GS bikes) in the lot or at a stop light. The guys that really know what's what are the guys that ride these. The RT is a totally sexy bike. I like them chesty. Good review.

    I have the same 2019 R1250 RT and have owned several RT's, a 2002 K1200RS, and 2008 K1200GT. I found the new R1250 RT has plenty of giddy up and went, but still revs high at highway speeds (about 4-5k rpm) vs. the 2018+ Honda Goldwing with the 6 cylinder & 7 speed auto, which runs about 2500 rpm. Being 5'7", overall I prefer the RT in the BMW lineup. I agree with all your points - spot on. To get closer to perfection, it should receive the new larger TFT touch screen with a (please dear lord make it a Garmin brand) GPS NAV, reverse with walk mode like the Goldwing or even the K1600's reverse. It should rev lower at higher speed with that torquey engine /maybe a higher 6th gear or overdrive. A large phone isn't going to fit in the compartment with the phone charging cable and audio port without the lid open and it hanging out. Basically you just need to use the bluetooth connectivity. The optional rear trunk gives a lot of storage space with the same auto lock, third brakes lights, and a passenger back rest.
    There is a secret "hidden" Digital speedo on the dashboard. If you have the model with the radio, you need to choose, Radio/Sirius OR Digital Speedo. Just press and hold the radio power OFF button and the dash switches to a digital speedo. I like using the digital speedo because I cannot see the analog gauge speedometer very well. The 60, 70 and 80 are too close together. I have written proof of that from a CHP officer, who stopped just to tell me my speed.
    One point about the handling though, the RT corning and ride are "outstanding". I have noticed a huge difference between other bikes like the Goldwing when the road gets bumpy the BMW'ers stay on track, where the Goldwing steering will not hold true (straight). If you ride an RT the fairing and windscreen are so good in the rain you hardly will get wet when moving. One of the most important things is to have on your bike is ABS! Don't leave home without it.

    The seat is adjustable to increase the height from the standard position. Additionally, BMW offers an optional thicker replacement seat and a thinner replacement seat to accommodate many different rider heights. I believe by adding the thicker seat and selecting the higher seat position on the bike, you will gain the extra two inches you desire.

    Bought a 2020 719 RT at the beginning of C-19 to help my Anti-Social distancing. Other bike is a CVO Roadking (110 inch). Wanted to move to more tech for safety (Smart ABS, Traction Control, better brakes Etc.). Yes the BMW looses in the Cool Factor category. Was astounded at the performance (only owned Harley D over last 25 years). Acceleration was on par but the handling and braking isn't even in the same world. Less fatigue after riding 300 mile trip. Wife still makes fun of it (like saying "when are you going to start it?") but boy does she like the calm air from the electric windshield. She also enjoys scenery more now.
    Looking forward to LD rides. ADDs: Ilium Crash protection front and rear, Adj brake pedal, Ilium bar risers, Top case, Glad I went with the RT over the Goldwing.

    I've had several RTs over the years and have ridden about 340K miles on them and my GSAs. I just picked up my 2019 RT yesterday. Don't care of the auto shifting...super clunky. Maybe time will tell...Other handling is great. Short wheel base allows me to dive into the corners. it smokes in the corners and my wife, who weighs 90 llbs, loves it. My only concern is that there is a pronounced starter "lag" when I hit the button-it cranks twice, freezes for a split second, and then cranks and starts. I've never had a boxer that did this. Another Great review Matt, I own a K1600b, bought from a very Dear friend of Mine, I absolutely love it, in your opinion which bike do you prefer? I Added the risers to my K Bike recently, which gave me a better feel, I’m 5’7 and don’t have long arms, I own a 2013 Harley Street Glide Custum and I will tell you that the K Bike destroys the H-D in every category except maybe in “Looks”. I know a lot of BMW riders love there 1250’s. I am “Hooked” on The K1600b. I can’t imagine that the 1250RT being a better “all around” Motorcycle! Curious on your thoughts??

      the K-B vs the RT is a tricky one... PERSONAL OPINION: they both handle about the same... a very slight tip of the hat to the RT for ground clearence reasons only... it def leans further before scraping hard parts... BUT and its a BIG BUTT... the K engine is supirior is every way... the torque, the smoothness, roll ons, and of course off the line, also the transmission is way way way smoother on a K-bike then anything with the Boxer engine in it... the bags, dash, and suspention are all the same, the KB is way more roomie and def nicer for more time in the saddle- but the new RT1250 has the new BMW breaks and they are fantastic- no two ways about it!!! i would still personally own a K if it were my money based on a pure performance and comfort stand point- but id you can some how upgrade the breaks to the new system it would be no contest at all!

    As an owner of a 2018 RT, I'm in the 'Adore' category and not out to 'Impress' anyone so I can live with the Cons and the subjective looks of the bike. The worst con for me is the price, followed by the cramped leg position but I'm thinking about purchasing a footpeg lowering kit to solve this. However, the bike has to first work and function as designed. It does that brilliantly. Want to go hot in the corners and play Moto GP, not a problem. Want to kick back and cruise / tour on long distance adventures, the bike is in its elements for it. Want to just go grocery shopping, plenty of storage room (I have the optional top case too) for that. It does all this with every comfort and convenience feature that you could want in a bike and then some. So yeah, it may not be for everyone and isn't perfect but its pretty darn close, IMHO.
    ps - #72 on the thumbs up!

    • @STOPsignforRT
      @STOPsignforRT Před 3 lety

      @@marklloyd4153 Yes. You can get a low seat from BMW and I think a high seat also. In addition, you can set the front seat mount to the low or high position to move the seat even lower or higher. I have a low seat on my RT and I've set the forward mount to the low position. This allows me to be almost flat footed when stationary on the bike. With a 29" inseam, this is one of the reasons I purchased an RT over a GS or GSA. On the GS/GSA, with a low seat and front seat mount in the low position, I'd be on tippy toes. Either a footpeg lowering kit or some highway pegs are what I'm considering to resolve the leg cramping issue. Hope this answers your question. Cheers. 🥂

    • @STOPsignforRT
      @STOPsignforRT Před 3 lety +1

      @@marklloyd4153 I think you're right that a high seat and lowered foot pegs on an RT should work to make long stretches in the saddle more comfortable. However, everyone's physique is different so this is only my subjective opinion. If you have a good BMW Dealer, I would think that they would work with you on determining what would work best in your situation since their goal is to sell you an RT. As for the RT's handling, it corners like a sports bike. Add to that, heated grips and heated seats and the push button adjustable windshield and cruise control etc etc. you have all the comfort, convenience and sporty handling that you could ever want on a long ride. Good luck. Cheers. 🥂

    It’s great we live in an age with so many choices. I’m a firm believer there’s no one size fits all bike. I’ve owned a few bikes over the years from sport bikes to full dresser Harleys. I’m currently riding a concours 14 and an 01 Valkyrie. Both have different purposes. The big draw for me with the RT is the weight. As we get older I personally prefer less to lug around. Great review! I have an R1250RT myself (Manhattan Metallic) and love it while on the road, as it handles very nicely. However, at low speeds (e.g. U-turns) it is not all that great: it requires a lot of clutch and throttle and is unwieldly. I am a bit disappointed also by BMW's policy. I did not want the sound system, as I definitely do not want any distractions when I am riding, so I did not get the right hand side "glove" compartment nor the USB port. It is cheap and unacceptable of BMW. IF I ever want to add the receptacle, I'd have to shell out almost 500 Euro! For the rest, great machine. I am 65, have been riding all my life, since I was 15 years old, and it is certainly the most comfortable bike ever. No issues with coping with its power or torque.

    I have just test ride for the day the R1250RT 2021 and the Goldwing 2021 DCT airbag for the entire day
    I have to be honest I am in love with the Goldwing way more comfortable than The RT, the. Engine is so smooth
    I found the RT seat position annoying not comfy for a tourer not sportive for a sportive motorcycle, this is a bit of a turn off in addition the foot peg and the knees a way too close abs after 100miles you start feeling pain to the knees and the boxer does not let you easily relax
    The Goldwing super comfy amazing gear shift silent
    Between the two 21K £ in the Uk the RT full optional vs Goldwing your DCT I found 2020 6 months 500 miles 24K...
    I will make my decision in few weeks but this is my experience with the two motorcycles
    Aww in addition maintenance for BMW way more expensive than the Goldwing plus personalisation for Goldwing is limitless lots of things you can add and have fun
    So overall not sure really... but I guess if I take the handle extender to have the handle bar 4 5 cm towards my chest with the BMW it might solve for my concerns and I will go with bmw
    Aww in addition in London people stated to steam the RT 11 inches screen ... ridiculous so if you live in cities like London you might need to accept your screen might be stolen at some point...replacement I think more than 500£

  • @dougbutcher5711
    @dougbutcher5711 Před rokem

    I own a 2019 in the dark metallic blue. Overall, I agree with all the comments in the video both positive and constructive criticism. I previously owned a 2010 R1200 RT, which I actually preferred "looks" wise and overall build quality. Plus the 2010 revved probably 700 rpm lower at equivalent highway cruising speed. I am puzzled by a few choices BMW made. 1. The connectivity options are pathetic (USB stick or 3.5mm aux input....are we still in the 1990s? ) 2. I agree with the lack of the digital dash comment but I also like the analog tach. It would be nice to integrate some "infotainment" options into a new dash design. 3. I'm puzzled by the comment about out comfy seat. Seriously? The factory seat was a torture device that I couldn't ride more than 100 miles at a time. That was solved by a Corbin seat; now my bladder or fuel tank are the limiting factor. 4. GPS -- Come on Garmin, you can do better. I previously had a Zumo 945 on my 2010; it would be nice to be able to get at least those same features in the only GPS that will integrate into the bike's GPS docking station. 5- tires. The factory tires wear rapidly and start handling poorly once partly worn. Recently upgraded to Road 6's and it made a ton of handling difference. 6. The "clutchless shift" feature. Upshifting is a bit harsh under hard acceleration, and you cannot downshift unless you roll off the throttle completely. That seems a bit counterintuitive to me since the only time I would really appreciate "speed" shifting capability is when I'm passing and trying to accelerate quickly.
    Notwithstanding the opportunities for improvement, I agree with the comments about handling. It's really easy to ride this bike faster than a 65 year old should ride it. The bike just "plugs in" to the road as speed increases. Especially considering its hefty curb weight, it is very flickable in the twisties; I never have any problem keeping up with sportier bikes on the Arkansas backroads. The comments about braking are spot on, and I love the way the front/rear braking is integrated and integrated with suspension damping. The bike just stays flat even under the hardest braking. I've had to panic stop a couple times and the bike's braking is only limited by reaction time. My biggest worry is if the bike behind me can stop as fast.
    I disagree with the comment about exhaust note, but maybe I'm just old. I used to think "loud pipes save lives" decades ago, but now I'm more impressed by silent power such as Gold Wings, BMW, Kawasaki Versys, etc all have. I enjoy listening to tunes when I'm just riding the highway alone or to be able to communicate with my riding buddies rather than listening to obnoxious exhaust noise.
    Would I buy it again? Hell yeah. All around a great bike in spite of its opportunities for improvement.

    Owning that same 2019 R1250RT I must admit I liked my 2010 Goldwing more. It was quieter, vibration free and MUCH more comfortable. The BMW has lots of features but riding position and engine vibration is not good. Had to purchase lowered pegs and engine and side case guards to be more comfortable and protect vulnerable costly parts. Now have Sargent seats and backrest on order. Shift Assist is great, but not from 1st to 2nd. I used to take off in 2nd gear on the Wing but cannot on the BMW. Must start in 1st every time. Has no torque from idle. I don't think this will be a keeper. BTW, the Garmin GPS is not locked in place when the central locking feature is activated. So you must remove it or risk losing a $1K unit. What was BMW thinking?
