Great idea. I cut them in half , fill with potting soil and start my garden plants in them. Then plant the plants tubes and all in my garden.
You can also fill the roll with soil, place a seed in it, let it start and then just plant the roll in your garden.
Yup
Indeed.
Did not know that !!!
This is another project I'm working on...
Ah yes i did that for years.
You could also cut them to put in an altoids tin or something similar
Indeed. Great idea!
One of my favorite fire starters. When dipping the roll in wax I like to add a string, and then fill in interior with dryer lint. Build the fire around the device and then light the string--it's incredibly reliable.
Thanks for watching!
I’ve actually been keeping my
waxed butter paper, cough drop paper anything that has wax on it
I keep for emergency fire starting. But I will actually start doing this. Thanks for the wisdom. HE said, MY people parish for the lack of knowledge.ijs
Indeed. Thanks for watching!
I used petrolium jelly (vasoline) and a cotton ball or cotton round to start a fire.
Thanks James, now we can play with our waterproofed telescopes even in the rain!
Lol. Thanks for watching!
Thank you 👍. I believe that age old question of “Does a bear crap in the woods?” has been answered! You didn’t notice because your back was turned, but that roll of toilet paper you threw behind you was quickly snatched up by a bear. He grabbed the TP, pumped his paw as if to say YES!!!!. Then scurried back into the woods! 😉
Lol. Thanks for watching!
Paul your story reminded me of the little rabbit that had stop next to a bush and was relieving himself when a huge bear appeared and set down next to him. His little rabbit knees were knocking together in extreme fear when the bear looked over at him and said, “have you ever had trouble with doo doo sticking to your fur?” The rabbit shaking like a leaf said, “no sir”, so the bear picked him up and wiped his butt with him. 🐻
I do that with dried pinecones in the fall. They look nice, and get the fireplace going every time. I put pine oil in the paraffin too.
Excellent. Thanks for watching.
Where do you get the pine oil and does it help it burn or just add scent?
@@eiward they sell it for candle making and perfume. Amazon or any craft store.
I do something similar, I fill the toile roll with dryer lint packed tight, also soak in paraffin wax, it can then be sliced after cooling and used as fire starters"…haven’t tried it yet but was thinking of running a candle wick through the center before putting in the hot wax, my thoughts are as a long candle or slice the tube for short candles….
I used the wax to seal the lint in, but I keep a bunch of tp tubes/lint in a big ziplock in my bugout bag (and a rolled up birch bark). The grandkids, ages 4 and 6, both can start fires with the lint and a Ferro rod.
Doubt it would work as a candle as the whole thing is essentially a wick at that point. All the compacted lint and cardboard tube would begin to catch as soon as the wick burned down far enough.
Thanks for watching!
I put dryer lint in them, then drizzle melted bit’s of candle wax (that are no longer useful for candles) over them for fire starters. Never throw away broken candles or what wax you have left in the bottom of a jar candle! Works great for fire starters! Can put bits of string and such in the egg holding portion of egg cartons and drizzle with melted wax. Break off an egg portion to use as a fire-starter whenever you need one. Great for taking camping! You can also use the cotton from pill bottle inserts. ‘Make do or do without!’
Thanks for watching.
it is a grand idea, I actually have been doing similar and is great to see someone like yourself promoting this via your youtube site for others. keep up the great work.
Great, thanks so much for watching!
Thanks for the great videos, it's nice to see someone using the same things I have been using for years I started to make them when at school in the 80s. Keep the videos coming it's great to see someone showing skills and tips, not just camping.
Thanks, will do!
living in a world that doesnt see the joy in recycling all our stuff!thats why i love the punk traveler movement in the uk we always used everything about us that was thrown in skips for art, music(i would make drums out of big oil tins),survival when the supermarkets threw away so much food we would make sure it got used ,bless ya james your a star in welsh= seren!
Thank you so much, my friend!
James....adding this for the Women Sharing the Outdoors Program.....Thank you! Take care....Robin
Excellent!
Another great idea. It would just have been thrown in the trash . Keep the great hacks coming .
Thanks for watching!
this is one hot Idea James. I guess it goes without saying this could be adapted with paper towel rolls, paper, Egg cartons , paper fire 🪵 logs and so forth. Take CaRe
Indeed. Lots of options. Thanks for watching, my friend!
That is a great way to create a cheap useful barter item!!
Thank you sir.
I've probably got half a dozen of those empty roll tubes on a shelf in my bathroom just sitting there. Paper towel tubes can also be used. Just cut to length.
What I do not have is any Gulf Wax.
I just ordered some on Amazon and it will be here tomorrow.
I can barter them for other prepper items once I've made my own supply
Thanks again for the great repurposing of something that would normally be out into the bin.
Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad that you liked it!
Thanks for watching the video and please leave me a comment in the section below!
The best ideas are always the simplest! Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for watching!
This works with just about any cardboard. I've done it with cereal boxes and paper pulp egg cartons. Corrugated cardboard can be used also. Really great idea. Thanks for sharing. I keep a slab of wax on hand. It's amazing what all you can do with it.
Indeed. Thanks for watching!
Wooow You are the coolest guy on the internet! Thank you!💕❤️💯😃👍🇺🇸
Thanks!
Need, is the mother of invention... Amazing video, and well done. :)
Still working on the best fuel idea for the "sink strainer stove"
Great, thanks for watching!
That was ssssoooo cool James!!! I knew there had to be more uses than just makeshift binoculars!! Lol! Very useful my friend!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
😄
If you don't flatten the tubes, you will have waterproof binoculars. That way the pretend optics won't fog up!
Dang clever! I’m going to start saving some tubes. I also like Robert Paulis’ idea of a plant starter. You are the man, James!
Thanks so much for watching!
Great idea.
I use tp cores and paper towel cores stuffed with shipping and newspaper for assisting in getting the wood stove going. I have also used dryer lint.
Yes, that works well also! Thanks for watching.
I have used dryer lint and wrapped with a sheet of newspaper. I’ve used egg cartons with lint or chicken bedding and wax too.
Another great fire starter and now i know where to get some tool hacks. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
James, I make fire starters using the wax and 100% cotton rounds. I use an old secondhand frypan and soak the rounds in the wax, using a spatula, put the saturated rounds on aluminum foil to cool and dry. Then store them in a baggie. They work for starting campfires and a fire in your woodstove. Thanks for the tip on using the rolls, and I'm thinking cut the rolls that come with paper towels and that should also work.
Excellent!
@@WayPointSurvival James, I forgot to mention with my fire starters, I have also used them with my Esbit stove, and they worked pretty well.
Your the best with saving and using stuff going to the landfill. Lots of other things to be used like this. Can't wait for you to share them with us.
Thanks so much for watching!
I think that is a fantastic idea. I might want to wrap it in plastic wrap real tight. So it doesn't wind up melting or sticking to things inside wallet. I also have a very small fishing kit my wallet as well. Three small hooks and some braided spider line. Which may be a brand name I can't remember. But it holds up virtually indefinitely versus a standard single strand fishing line. It doesn't get brittle. The stick and Bobber and other stuff you'll have to figure out while you're in the woods, it's not hard. Pine cones float. Worms are everywhere. And of course the stick..lol
Of course if you can find a wicked witch, I remember hearing in a movie, that they also float... Just another alternative..lol
Thanks!
excellent and that should keep for years!
True!
Great idea for something that would normally be tossed out.
Thanks so much, brother!
You rock love watching your videos very helpful for survival and stuff very inspiring thank you
Thanks so much!
Mix sawdust with the wax until it's the consistency of play-dough, then stuff the mixture into the toilet paper roll, and you'll have mini fuel logs that burn for hours.
Sure, you could definitely do that.
@@WayPointSurvival I do. I have had a cooking fire ready in seconds with one, and kept my tent warm all night on two.
I take the tp cores and stuff one inside the other as tightly as I can before soaking it in candle wax. I've used one to start a fire in a heavy rain. It will burn for 15-20 minutes.
Yes, I have seen that method done as well but I think they're quite bulky. I came up with this method as a way to streamline the process.
I have used paper towel and toilet paper rolls for starting my flower and gardening seeds for a long time. You just plant them right into the soil. I also take my used dryer sheets and lint and stuff them inside the toilet paper roll. Then i dip each end in my used up wax in my wax burner. I save some up for fire starters when camping or bon fires. I like your idea also. Very compact.
Thanks for watching!
I save all the paper/cardboard for lighting the charcoal chimney.
Toilet paper rolls get one side bent to close off, put catnip in, then close the other side---Cat toy!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks..now i gotta start saving those toilet rolls! Really good hack
Thanks for watching!
Those BUTANE COOKERS ARE THE BEST. I keep one in my car for a picnic or coffee break on trips. I added a hotplate & made a barbie that has been used on trips & picnics.
Excellent idea. Thanks for watching!
Its the little things that I value when watching your videos.
I have done all sorts of projects with cans, but it never occurred to me to dent the rim to create a pouring spout. Excellent stuff.
(FYI I can tell you do this all the time from how worn your ferro rod is. Most used one Ive seen)
Thanks so much!
Excellent show old man . Great idea . Going to do some.
Excellent!
Thank you James, your Chauffuer, J Bruce, Hollywood North 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Thanks so much!
Ok I like that a lot 👍 I have a lotta cotton balls with Vaseline & though I can get the baggy pretty flat those would store a lot more flat. Pretty cool my man.
Thanks so much!
People talk about using dryer lint the same way as cotton balls.
@@jamesvoigt7275 yes lint is a very good fire starter also cat tails, they make terrific fire starter
I pack lint from the dryer inside of those and use those as a fire starter that way, but I definitely love your idea smart
Thanks!
Just buy yourself a bag of Fritos. They're cheap, you get plenty of them, and they are just as flammable as your toilet roll. Plus you can eat them when you get hungry, and you could use it to bait small traps.
Sure. They burn well and you can certainly do that. This video was on how to use something that usually gets thrown away.
Good idea...I will use my old candles for this project...
Excellent. Thanks for watching!
Nice. The only thing that I've done with tp rolls was use them for pet rats to tear up. Lol. Thanks, James!
Thanks for watching!
Another great hack from waypoint survival ,keep them coming.
Prayers up
Thanks, much appreciated!
I make fire starters with wax, dryer lint and toilet paper tube, their pretty neat
Yes, that's another way to do it. However, it makes them fairly large for carry whereas this method keeps them small and flat and easily packable.
Excellent idea James and so easy to make. Cheers 🇨🇦
Thanks for watching!
Thanks James for another awesome hack. You rock my friend!
Thanks for watching!
Killer idea. I love repurposing and DIY bushcraft and survival gear. Can't wait to see what you have next for us!
Thanks for watching!
Been saving these ingredients , but I thinking along the lines of candle shaped . Glad I saw this video before going with the old plan . If make according to the Way Point plan , I can pack more in less space ! 👍
Sounds good. Thanks for watching!
Way cool. 50 year hobo here. Another little trick for a roll of T P is to remove the cardboard tube carefully from the paper roll and stuff it in an empty coffee can. Then pour a small bottle of rubbing alcohol into the can. Light it for a smokeless warming source. You can put a bent up metal clothes hanger on top and heat a small tin can of water to instant coffee hot. If you not in a hurry it will warm a can of soup good enough. I never dilute canned soup as most of them are almost just dishwater if you do.
Great idea! Thanks for watching and for the support!
Nice tip. I can see them being used as forms for home made candles also.
True. Thanks for watching!
Bravo James, I love the way you're always thinking outside the box!!
Thanks so much!
I've worked at a Scott paper plant and that cardboard is called a core. Another great hack. Keep up the great videos!!!
Thanks so much for the info!
Really like this one. Comes in handy for me while travelin. Thanks for showing and sharing
Thanks for watching, glad you liked it!
if its really hot outside, like 100F here in Kansas, you maybe need to wrap the waxed flat in foil to keep it from melting all over the place in wallet or pack.
Actually, once the wax soaks into the cardboard, as long as you don't put too much in it, it shouldn't be a problem.
James, THANK YOU for this idea. I’ve been saving these rolls, because I too always thought there aught to be something useful they could be used for. I hated to throw them away. thinking someday either I, or someone else, would come up with a great idea and you have. This is such a great idea and makes use of something we’d ordinarily throw away and waste. AWESOME IDEA, AWESOME VIDEO, AWESOME JOB!!!
Thanks so much, glad you liked it!
I've done this with a bunch of materials, including cotton balls. Those will give impressive flames, but waxing unrolled cotton balls is like mad science!
The making itself is easy enough, it's just that they can release 5 feet long flames in high winds... and I mean 5 feet long, not 5 feet tall!
Right? Thanks for watching!
Excellent always looking for good fire starters.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome idea !!!!
Thank you for sharing !!!
Keep up the great work !!!
Thanks for watching!
That's great. I will also try paper towel rolls. Will be making these!
Thanks for watching!
I've been soaking scrap papers in beeswax (it started with expired phone book pages) for over 20 years. It's a perfect fire starter. I call it homemade birch bark.
Great tip!
Those single burner stoves are great
Indeed. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing
That was cool and such a great use of recycling!
Thanks so much!
Dude, you are just full of hacks. lol I expect that is why I like your videos that much. Anybody can do it with high dollar equipment, but you take the Wal Mart stuff and make it ROCK
Thanks so much!
Good idea James , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Thanks for watching, God bless you too!
Thank you sir for another wonderful video that is very practical I have watched you a few times I also watch corporals corner I watch hours and hours of bushcrafters all over the world thanks for your time and effort I am 63 and I'm on a fixed income. Until then like I always say be safe leave no Trace I'm with you in spirit your friend Arizona Dave
Thanks for watching and for your time!
Really great idea! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
What a great idea!
Thanks!
Excellent idea Loving the videos and ideas.
Thanks for watching!
Nice hack James. Thanks for showing us and take care.
Thanks so much, my friend!
Good idea. Another idea, you can get a 100 count box of individually sealed alcohol wipes for a little over a dollar. Make very good fire starters along with 1st aid.
Very true. Thanks for watching!
Really well done.
Sometimes the best stuff is the simplest.
Thanks so much!
Cool! Never thought of that. Thanks again
Thanks for watching!
that is a really good idea, I like that I have everything to make this and everything you research and make I can easily follow along and make as well, this is truly excellent channel to watch, thank you so much for this video
Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad you liked it!
Grocery store produce departments get crates of veggies in waxed cardboard boxes. Being waxed, they are not recyclable with the regular cardboard. They are just disposed of in their landfill waste.
Get friendly with the produce managers and they will likely give or save some for you. They are waterproof and handy for many things, such as fire starters, and also for construction uses, such as forms for concrete, building temporary rainproof structures, improvised cooler chests or storage bins etc.
Great idea, thanks for watching!
Great second use for the all the Covid hoarded TP leftovers . Keep posting these ideas , we will do our part with both thumbs up !
Thanks for watching!
Thanks James, Your the Best!
Thanks so much, my friend!
Not a bad idea. Thanks for sharing it.
JT
Thanks for watching!
I use them for cordage storage as well ... really anything that can fit in a tube right? That is another nice use case as well, I like it.
Thanks so much!
Hi James - thanks for another great tip! Stay safe. ATB. Nigel.
Thanks for watching, my friend!
I use in fishing box . I put lures in them and fold ends in.
Great idea. Thanks for watching!
You're a genius! Thank you for sharing your helpful ideas. Our family lives your channel. Just joined your patreon. God bless!
Thank you so much for watching and I really and truly appreciate the financial assistance, God bless you too!
Cool video, I agree with you on having a butane stove, especially were I live where the electricity goes off quite often. I like the new use of the toilet paper roll for lighter starter, I'm going to try it out!
Thanks for watching!
Great idea Thanks for posting 👍
Thanks for watching!
I've been saving my roll cardboards and picked up some candles on sale... Once it stops raining, this week, I'm finishing up this project. Thanks for reminding me to put it on my schedule.😉
Excellent. Thanks so much!
This is a great idea, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I do not know why I found "outside there's less risk" so damn funny lmao, all I can think is the whole neighborhood will burn instead of just your house LOL!!!
Thanks for watching.
@@WayPointSurvival you're welcome and I will be using that hack. I already do something similar with cotton balls and melted petroleum jelly but this is probably easier.
Ótimo vídeo Parabéns muito bom
Thank you!
Hi there and new to your channel from Nutrient Survival! You really have some great ideas on using everyday items for a variety of situations! I appreciate practicality! Thank you for sharing and have a blessed day!
Great! Thanks so much for watching the channel!
Great idea!!
Thanks for watching!
Cool idea. I bet you could use old candles too. I always hate to throw out old candles this would be a good recycle for them.
Yes indeed! You could definitely use old candles.
I saved all my wife’s old candles before she passed away in order to recycle them in a similar manner. Great idea James.
No way! You did it again!! You're awesome!
Thanks so much!
James another very clever idea. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I have a use for these.
I use them as moulds for making candles out of old used candle wax.
All you need is a piece of string for the wick.
And tear off the bog roll tube.
Indeed. Great idea!
Ive been useing them for many things since the late 70s early 80s
Excellent, thanks for watching!
Yea you know getting the information out there for all whom can make use of if great, i say sometimes you have to use your imaganatio, and you can make just about anything and thats what you do for all of us your followers!
And all the repliys are great , so i ask that maybe you could come up with something compleatly new for us, and paper twoels are great too. Sorry bad spelling and small keyboard on phone.
So paper towels rolls are great for cordage, and you can crush them in your pack and still cordage wont tangle, and put said cordage back, always have to use your things so they are working to your needs.
So im new to your chanl ,please diregared any that you have already addresed .im still watching and will countinue
Your British middle aged subs are shouting Blue Peter during the opening of this video James
Lol. I'm not even sure what that means! Thanks for watching, my friend!
@@WayPointSurvival A hugely popular kids show in the 60s and 70s in the UK called Blue Peter. They made things every week from toilet cores!
Ah! I see. Thanks for the info!
SUPER COOL! Thanks!
