John Cage Van Damme was actually a pretty well-chosen name. MK was originally going to be a game starring Van Damme, probably inspired by Bloodsport, but the idea never gained fruition. Johnny Cage is what remains of that idea, he's a parody of Van Damme's usual characters.

Street Fighter combos cap out at maybe 11 hits (with super, and then it's impossible to get it back save for letting the other dude smack you around)
Mortal Kombat actually has a good combo system, single handedly led to the formation of the ESRB and invented the greatest way to apply salt in human history

I would much prefer street fighter. there is actually a foundation of footsies and strategy wherein mk always boils down to annoying coin flips where one wrong guess can lose you 40% and put you in the corner for yet another reset and another coin flip.
I like the 3 of them tbh idk but is just about preference good thing we have more than 1 good fighting game. But yeah at least in my opinion I like mortal Kombat a bit more

Would have been cool if Netherealm did what Lord of the Rings Conquest did, giving the player two campaigns: Good and bad. Would have been cool to play as some of the newer characters in the campaign, like Erron and Ferra/Torr.
