Adam, I love the show, please answer this! Where did you get your shop apron?? I've been following Abom79 and I would be so stoked to learn about whether or not you got your cool, new shop aprons from the same place! Haha hope you're doing well. Thank you so much!

Adam you're a GOOD dude. I wish more humans in this world were like you.
"My mom is here to help me organize my lego collection!" is about the most amazing thing I've ever heard a grown adult say!
For a accomplished adult lol but me 28 saying it would be weird to my girlfriend.
I agree, however it's less amazing if the grown adult lives with their mother and has less than optimistic employment opportunities. The fact that it's a successful and independent grown adult makes it far more amazing. Lol
Adam Savage is cool and all but his mom is even cooler 😅
I feel the same way about drawing or writing on a tablet. I am a construction lawyer and do a ton of writing and thinking about solutions to legal problems. And I always start with a 17 x 11 pad where I just mad man every possible thought. When that is not enough space, I jump to a big white board. In many ways-probably in all ways-writing a brief is making. It’s fun creating something new in the world. And to any lawyers reading this, make your briefs as interesting as possible. I try to include at least one memorable thing in each brief that is often totally off brand. Like quoting Shakespeare or even from popular culture. Thing one o learned from my first boss as a lawyer-a judge-was that interesting briefs tend to be taken more seriously than uninteresting ones. Thing two-and sorry for the off beat post-is that your introduction must be a mini version of your whole brief. Literally. You simply have to assume that the Judge will not read past the intro. Fun fact, judges work really really hard. They are inundated with stuff they must find time to read. And they may not have the time to read much past introductions. And if they go back to pieces, what will they look to-the intro. This also applies to tests and essays for you students out there. Don’t bury the lead. Tell the reader up front what your point is.
Wisdom suggests you give the job to the most competent person :)
Adam: is 52 years old
Also Adam: "my mom is helping me organize my Legos"
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
There are two types of people that generally play with Lego: Kids, and adults who remember them fondly from their childhood.
Kids nowadays tend to grow out of them because there's so much other things to stimulate and entertain them, while the older crowd (50+) tend to have kept theirs from childhood and would have been more likely to play with them for longer because of the lack of things like the internet and, depending on how old they are, TV.
Sitting here watching this while organising my LEGO
@@jksmellie I don't quite buy the "kids nowadays". How many 50+ former kids grew out of LEGO just the same? How many current kids will not grow out of LEGO?

His vocabulary is astonishing. I just admire the way he is able to articulate what he is thinking.
That's what happens when people actually stop and think about what they are going to say. 😄
@@clockworkNate If I stop and think what I'm about to say I only get worse
Episodes where Adam makes mistakes are often the best. Not because we enjoy laughing at Adam, but because that's where we learn the most and it's a privilege to come along for the ride.
Also, it shows us that he's real, he's genuine, he's human... And even the best in the world still make mistakes.
The section when Adam is responding to people not caring for your work - specifically when someone you care for responds negatively to something you created for them - really resonated with me. It surprisingly brought up several instances of feelings I’ve had in my past - Surprise, disappointment, sadness, embarrassment…
Sometimes the way someone responds to a gift says more about them than anything else - and sometimes what it says can be heartbreaking.
To date, the very rare times I’ve received a gift from someone - something they created - even if it was the last thing on Earth I desired executed in the least interesting manner (hyperbole), I’d be overcome with gratitude and emotion that someone made this for me. It’s special.
Not enough people make things for others (part of that process is being thoughtful, which, of course, means whatever they make won’t be the last thing on Earth you desire).
When asked what I want, for say, like my birthday, I almost always request a handmade card. Just something they made for me. It can just be a piece of paper folded over twice with something written on it. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. They asked, I answered. The sad, possibly heartbreaking, thing is, almost no one - no one - has ever followed through.
Question: How do you deal with knowing someone dislikes your work?
Adam: I reject your reality, and substitute my own!
The hardest of critiques to me is still that I assume that those that I love will love the things that I love. Usually that’s incorrect and quite painful.
So good!
I love how quick and real Adam can be when necessary - "if someone random thinking your work is crap, who cares? They can go to Hell" - haha
Hey Adam, i know you're a pro at this video stuff, but that doesn't take anything away from the fact that your youtube videos feel more personal and genuine than every other "Maker"vids out there. I love when you go grab something off camera. All of it makes me feel like I'm just hanging out with you in your shop and really, that's about as cool as could get. Thanks for these!
I was fully anticipating a Mr. Rogers moment when the doorbell rang :D
Ikr? Was my first thought! 😂😂😂
Me too.. and I'd love to meet his mom!

I absolutely love the passion you have talking about anything at all. You can answer a simple yes or know question with such detail and insight. It is just an unbelievable experience listening to you talk about anything at all.
This is a man who loves connecting with others, and who loves disseminating information and wisdom, and it’s incredible to be a part of
Recently i've been struggling through suboxone withdrawals and have been trying to come off of it because i feel its been making it harder to live life with depression, but when i watch your videos you never fail to make me smile, nor did you in Mythbusters and i'm very grateful that you are here on this platform because you are such a great teacher and in my eyes one of the humblest but most professional and expert craftsmen(i just did construction (windows)(gutters)(vinyl siding)) abt a year ago so as a beginner with tape and a pencil/sharpie and making measurements and seeing how things me coming here to watch i feel like if i wanted i could TOO write notes and them be abt things you've said just to cheer me up or keep me going, or to push me to do something. I'm not really a woodworker or craftsman or maker at the moment because im just hard headed and wanting to be sober already, but you have helped teach me patience as i have been trying too fast, and i must live to see another Adam Savage video !!!
PS: i wear hearing aids too and had no idea you did aswell that made me just feel more comfortable abt them knowing you wear them and you seem to carry yourself very proudly and comfortably and i love that about you, thanks for being such a good model in life to look up to Adam, as a young (22) man i really do appreciate being born in the same generation and the luxury it is to watch you just by yourself making something, it makes me wan't to get up and do more in life and that has been a challenge with depression, so. If you're reading this by chance, you have my most profound thanks and pleasure and please keep making and teaching ! You are truly a gem in the rough and i am thankful for your videos and you being you.
Every time I watch one of these videos they always inspire me to keep making. I usually always end up drawing or figuring out ideas while watching/listening. I'm studying product design (before corona) and usually always work in the workshops at my school. When I'm at home now with no wood workshop and metal workshop I have to go "back to basics" and I have to think differently about finishing different project and maybe work more with graphic design or other projects that you dont need a whole lot of tools or at least not a big workshop. These videos let me focus on my work and makes me keep designing and building. Thank you for making all these videos Adam, and all of you at Tested.
Thanks for doing these Adam. It makes me smile more when I am making.
You don't know how much I look forward to your daily videos. I feel like I have a true human connection, with you during these videos. All's I can say is THANK YOU!!!!!. YOou speak to me like I'm the only one in the room. THATS what makes all of this work. A video wizard you are !! You have saved my frame of mine almost daily!! Thank you Adam!
I've been watching through these question videos as I finish up my thesis, a stop-motion short film. Thanks so much for always putting out amazing content!
listening to your stories is all that gets me through my days.. I'm a Mechanical Engineer drop out who is a full time research and development designer for a large firearm manufacturer designing their flagship products... This one spoke to me more than others as I've seen tense of thousands of complaints or non constructive criticism of my work... Sometimes its easy to feel depressed/lonely when you work in design... We often work in solitude or only get genuine interaction at work when its negative or related to deadlines. Love you Adam.
Man that sucks your job. I could not handle that world. Just saying.
Hope you can find a more rewarding well deserved job. It is crazy how highly talented people can just go unnoticed for no reason what so ever.
@@VintageGearMan thank you my friend, your words mean a lot more than you realize. But dont sell yourself short, you'd be shocked what the average human can achieve on their own under pressure. Even if its lonely. Cheers brother.
I *_REALLY_* hope these Q&A streams/videos continue after the quarantining is over!
I can’t think of a better keynote speaker. You are thoughtful, encouraging, practical, and engaging.
thanks adam for your little ray of sunshine - I really find the few mins I can get watching you build something, or talk about the process or just answer questions to be a real high light during all this.. thank you...
really love the Chandler quote about Marlow.....i'll have to look into that series!
I am so glad you answered my question Adam! And thank you Tested Team for these great live-streams ❤️
I feel that this video is the best example of how astoundingly skilled you are at clear and articulate communication. One of the most important skills one can learn. I feel you've attained a level of understanding of others than many people can only strive for their entire lives. This is what makes you a wonderful science communicator, a rare and valuable skill as well.
Thank you for making this video, as a fellow maker I appreciate your insight and experience. However, my favourite answer from this video is not to do with making but regarding how a world with people safe but not boring would be a beautiful place to be. A wonderful ideal and something worth striving for.
That is a really great question. The specific questions about movies and props are great but the ones that require a philosophical response are the most revealing and reflective in the sense that we ask ourselves the same question.
Thank you for doing these Q&As. You are providing a valuable service during these unusual times.
Adam you’re a gem, thank you for these.
What a great series .. I love to listen to you as a question causes you to look inside yourself for an answer, maybe to something , or in a way, that you never thought about before.
Thank you so much for the book recommendation. I have looked it up online, and it's now next on my to-read list. The quotes you recited are crafted with such care and precision and beauty, I can see why they resonate with you.
I’m a handful of years younger than you. Watching Marlowe & The Magic Movie Machine is one of my earliest memories. Still remember the whole intro and the L. Dullo Building. Seeing you mention it in this video made my day!
NONE of my contemporaries, friends, classmate buddies, brothers or co-workers have ever had ANY idea what I was talking about. If not for CZcams I might have thought I’d imagined it. You’re the ONLY other person I’ve ever seen reference it. Thank you!!! Glad it left an impression on you as well.
I'm so happy to have just received Adam's book I ordered recently! Loving it! Thanks for sharing your time with us.
Your content is brilliant. I love your personality and enthusiasm, Adam. Thank you for sharing with us.
Yes! Marlo! We just found the intro to the show online and I was nostalgically blown away. Have not seen that show since I was young. Thank you for that memory.
Adam - you're a treasure. These are completely enjoyable!
I'm so glad you proceed to put out videos, Adam. Love you man. Things will be better soon. ♥️
My uncle worked at Starrett tools for decades and still tells stories about it. Jarring to hear it mentioned anywhere else, never knew they were that widespread.
As much as I love watching you build stuff, these sessions where we often get an Adam brain dump are truly inspiring.
Oh my, I wasn't planning to watch all of this. I got things to do lol. You're videos are always insightful and engaging. I'm gonna have to find out how to ask questions for you. Thanks for your time.
I'm getting the final stuff set up to start filming and this is a huge roadblock for me! I so appreciate your videos
Keep connecting Adam. I appreciate you taking us along.
You have been very helpful to me in difficult times...Thank You👍
His range of awareness startles you, Thank you
Having watched your channel for a bit now, I really like you. You just seem like a good human. You seem really good at being human.
I used to always carry around a notebook but switched to an ipad/apple pencil when I started using OneNote. Being able to screenshot stuff on my desktop and paste it in, or taking a photo with my phone and inserting it, and marking all that up on my ipad with everything being synced up together is an amazing experience, especially when brain storming/ and figuring the early stages of a project out.
DAMN!! I love these Q&A videos,, I hope you keep doing them.
I really enjoy all your videos and im working hard to get my son to watch them as well. Im not handy at all but can dream away when I watch you get to work. Awesome !
Love your shows!
You should do a "One day junk drawer cleaning" video!
I was unaware Adam was at all a rhythm gamer. As someone who's been writing StepMania stepcharts for many years and plays a bunch of rhythm games myself, it makes me happy to hear that he's found one that he loves.
I was a painful lesson, but one of my former lovers taught me that one must always include the recipient of one's enthusiasm in the process of creation when its conclusion will become a part of their life. That went hand in hand with the lesson that taught me that no matter what I create, someone else has to live with it. So the act of creation could not just be a thing of my making but a thing of mutual making even if I was the one who got my hands dirty. In time I learned to take equal pride in the form of creation that took another's interests and ideas to heart. Thanks much for the Raymond Chandler intro to this episode, while I watched because of the title about dealing with unlikers I found the greatest value in the bookends to that part.
ANOTHER MASSIVE SHOW FROM ADAM - WELL DONE !!!!
These bring so much joy. Thank you for continuing to do them, Adam.
Who would not want something Adam made with all the love and passion he puts into his projects you didn't deserve it anyway
I really hope this format continues
Hello from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. Great show. Thanks for sharing.
“The sanding area has always been a sh$tfight”
Adam clearly spent a lot of time around Aussies🤣
“ Look for encouragement where you can find it”, interesting, I will think on that statement!
Love your your vids learning a lot.
Thanks for keeping me making stuff.
Love your advise on gate keeping!!…and I could rant on that subject well. Again, thanks for your words
Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. He is the hero; he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a weathered phrase, a man of honor - by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man in any world...
I love watching these while making stuff.
I was waiting for a third reference to another character named Marlow. You mentioned Raymond Chandler's Marlowe then Marlow and the Magic Movie machine. You could have mentioned Marlow in Jospeh Conrad's Heart of Darkness or Marlo Thomas to make the Rule of Three's complete.
Be careful invoking the Rule of Three or before you know it you will run afoul of the Law of Nines ;-)
I’m guessing that your one day build today was a comb. Me being me though, I tend to think of you as the mad man in the attic with the unruly hair. No disrespect intended. I love your content. It’s my go to when I just want to chill. I like your enthusiasm you show doing something you clearly enjoy doing. Don’t ever lose it. Thank you.
Re: that commencement address- do you have any thoughts on putting it up on CZcams after it's shown to the school?
How knowledgeable you are. Keep making these videos.
Not a patron or anything(would love to if I could but money) a random question popped into my head while I was watching; what was one of or your favorite build that was also one of the hardest for you to do. Big fan love everything you do and you've come to inspire me on a daily basis since finding this channel (maker in the making if you will) so thank you for being you :)
I am fascinated by intelligent folks such as yourself no matter what their field of endeavor happens to be. People watching is my hobby. Having said this, I find that most of the intelligent people I am most fascinated by are very avid readers and have been since very early on in their lives. Very few however make reading a subject they promote regularly to the many young people whom follow their work. How do you relate to this? Do or would you plan a program around the importance of learning to read well and learning to understand what you read, no matter the material. I taught and stressed this to my son at an early age, as I raised him by myself without a spouse. I am a big fan, watch you on CZcams regularly and will listen for a response. Excuse the lengthy post. Thank you sir.
Thanks for sharing, great video as always.
"Must neither be tarnished nor afraid." I also resonate with that line, because I really resonate with the idea of malice being a tarnish on one's soul. Something that creeps in if exposed to corrosive or caustic elements, and not given proper care afterwards. It grows over time, possibly hiding the beautiful art that was underneath, and if left too long, can irreversibly damage it. However, you can always clean it off. It may take hours of sanding and scrubbing, and some of the finer details may get lost, but you can remove that tarnish from yourself. But first you have to want to, and then you have to put in the work.
Hard Boiled is still one of my favourite graphic novels ever made! Geof Darrows is a living legend!
These video are awesome ad I am getting some great ideas for future builds. Keep sharing.
Adam, what do you think of the Taig Tools mini mill and lathe? Will, was asking about getting setup for home machining, and this is one that I've been working with lately. Seems pretty nice so far.
I really want to see the soul leaving his body clip, I feel like I’d deeply relate 😂
HLB it’s in the die filer One Day Build, and you can also find the highlight one Adam’s Instagram if you have an account
Respectfully how the electronic ear pro works is that they are just like normal ear muffs that block most of any frequency and level of sound. With the addition of external microphones and internal speakers with a band pass style filter that only pipes sounds of a safe intensity into the speakers to your ears.
Adam organizing legos with his mom is the most wholesome thing this internet has ever heard
Goung through the Tested and Adam Savage rabbit hole after growing up with Mythbusters. As always amazing content and I dont have any exeprience with "model making" per say, but as a welder in a custom sheet metal shop I lost my shit when you complained about not having scale cage fans. We have dozens in all different shapes and sizes and any metal or industrial shop in the world has at least 1!
I SOOOO remember "Marlo and the Magic Movie Machine"!! ... Aaaah. A kindred spirit!
What a great answer to the fictional character question.
Love the show
Love that your mom comes over to help
Loss of a shop- it’s okay to vent and have a small pity party because it sucks, so get it out of your system, dust yourself off and decide what the next step looks like…replace and rebuild and enjoy doing that because it will be better because your memories of past mistakes did not burn up, you are smarter now so build back better
Finally the Answer to who was smooshing around Legos in the background!
Just fyi I was recently looking for cover protection for a motorcycle that wasn't just a tarp. Like a tent. Didn't find a size I wanted. But got ideas to design my own. I also found tent garages for cars that would work to work on your car in the shade, and some security for tools keeping them out of sight, the tent flaps can have locks installed to keep out casual temptation, and concealment for bathroom tasks.
I just wanted to thank you for all you do and the inspiration that you endear.
I think you should make a violin.
Can someone from the @Tested team link to a place where those headphones @ 22:37 could be purchased? Please and thank you in advance.
yeah damn those quotes about the young man hit close to home for me too... I'll have to check that out
9:15 that doorbell scared the heck out of me, my got the same exact tune and using open ears headphones made it sound like it was mine that rang lol
This was a really neat episode, thank you. I just want you to know that you are a big inspiration for me, and I appreciate you cranking this kind of content out.
It's so cool you do these. You're so cool and nice and sincere. Thank you
I still regard "The Abyss" as Camerons Masterpiece! As for his catalog of films, the weak (if it can be considered weak) is "True Lies". And is still better than most!
17:40 I was building a 2ft square box from someone else's measurements (from a pic of a pad of paper). Once I cut the frame out of wood, I realized no matter how they were assembled, they would not equal 23 inches (plus 1/2" plywood face). I worked backwards from what size I wanted and cut new 2x4s into the required sizes.
You have the same door bell tune as me. Paused when i heard it went to the door, no one there. came back realized what i did and laughed my butt off
That doorbell is the same as mine and it gets me every time!
I bought a reMarkable tablet and it is absolutely wonderful to draw with. Feels like drawing on paper with all the benefits of digital. Highly recommend it!
I've always thought of the matrix arc gun as more of a tool for ship repair that gets used as a weapon in the series.
Why can't I find the video for the LEGO storage build? Can someone please reply with a link. Please and Thank You
Speaking of space when my local hackspace moved, we thought great we've got nearly 3-4 times the amount of the space, how are we ever going to fill this with tools ect, I think it took us maybe 3 months to be running out of space.
I maybe rewatching this years later, but OMG I just realized. "... disgust of sham and a lively sense of the absurd." One phrase on my shirt from the Behind the Myths tour.
Adam you rascal!
Grew up on Long Island, and we are of a similar age. Yes, I've saw all those shows. Wonderama come to mind.
I have not experienced the magic of receiving something hand made by its maker, but the few ocasions it has happened it turns into an invitation for me to, in turn, make something to either display or keep it.
Loved wild wild west (Robert Conrad). Also Mission Impossible. Once they used my exact reel to reel tape recorder for the intro... I am a bit older than you but loved all those shows
The spheres on his desk have to be thermal detonators from Return of the Jedi?
love the way you give everything, ever going to come to england?
