    I bought one of these for my project and love it. For my purposes, the Black 40 Grit seemed to work the best and using gravity and the weight of the tool seemed to produce the best results. Great video on this tool. John

      Awesome. I wouldn't be without mine now that I have it. I have to make an update on it for some new stuff for it. The other drums are really for stuff like stainless steel and blending welds. I wish someone made the purple wheel for them as they last longer than the black ones.

    this looks to be one of those tools that I just need to own. I don’t do much body work if any, but still, never anything wrong with having an extra tool. Thanks for the nice review.

    Its the exact same tool as the Eastwood sct only cheaper with a shorter warranty but you can buy a warranty from HFT I bought one and I like it a lot it won't fit every where but for large panels it works great and HFT and Amazon has some of the drums at a more affordable price.

    You gosh darn Infernal Craftsman (said in my Yosemite Sam horrible impersonation voice!)!
    Great video....TOO great of one actually lol. I had a mobile detailing business so I knew quite a few companies that had polishers. Occasionally I would have to polish out some metal and I would just use my paint polishing DA and pads. I knew there had to be a more job specific tool. I started researching and soon my attention was drawn to the "East" and "wood" you lookie there (LOL since were aren't mentioning the competition)! There it was. The tool of my dreams and my dream were rich too! So went to where rich dream get introduced to reality, the HF!
    I did a lot research since the beginning of the year of this tool from them, and it seems to be IDENTICAL! Except for the color and the addition of 2 polishing wheels (3 total) that is. Just a great tool! I tell all I can about it. I've ordered some polishing wheels to polished out some aluminum amplifier heat sinks I have for sell. I'm sure I WILL NOT be let down.
    Thank you for the post once again! I look forward to see more from you!

    You put the handle on backwards. You'll get more pressure with it flipped.

    • @theinfernalcraftsman
      @theinfernalcraftsman  Před 2 lety +1

      You are correct but in my application the handle to the front gets in the way and you want very little pressure on automotive sheet metal because it's thin and flexible and pushing hard creates heat and will warp panels.

  • @txman951
    @txman951 Před 2 lety +2

    You mentioned initially you had the machine at half speed. Is that where you kept it when you stripped the bottom of the car or did you turn the speed up? Are you still using the first black wheel or did it finally get used up?

    • @theinfernalcraftsman
      @theinfernalcraftsman  Před 2 lety +1

      I left it at half speed. I ran it a little faster on some areas to test but if you run it too fast and stay in one spot too long it will melt the paint and make it gummy and more of a mess to remove. I still have some usable abrasive on my wheel. Doing the bottom of the car shreds more because of all the sharp edges. If you are doing the regular body panels they will last longer. I would guess 2 maybe 3 to do a whole car. Just depends on how much and what kind of paint and how you use the tool. I can make grinding discs disappear fast and not remove much. But I can be easy on them and get allot more work out of them .
      The only part I still need to strip is the trunk lid and I will have more than enough left for it.

    • @theinfernalcraftsman
      @theinfernalcraftsman  Před 2 lety +2

      I tried it both ways and it was getting in the way the other way and it was more comfortable with it pointing back. If I were putting allot of pressure on the tool then it would be much better the other way. One of those things like a grinder handle, just put it where it works for you.

  • @jeffstanley4593

    Could this be used on wood provided you were gentle with it?

    • @theinfernalcraftsman
      @theinfernalcraftsman  Před 2 lety +1

      It could be. You can get a drum sander attachment for it. You can also use the brushes on wood as well but they will leave a worn look to the wood as it will remove the soft areas and leave the harder grainlines proud. But if you want to keep a board flat with the drum attachment it's not going to happen. Better off with a belt sander for that.

    • @theinfernalcraftsman
      @theinfernalcraftsman  Před 2 lety +1

      If you have heavy flakey rust I would knock as much off by scraping or chipping etc then the lack poly abrasive wheel would be the one I would start with. I wish the purple one as made for these tools but so far no one makes one.

    • @theinfernalcraftsman
      @theinfernalcraftsman  Před 2 lety +1

      @@tracymawer6980 The black "poly abrasive" wheel would work the best on the surface rust. The trick with any wheel of that material is not to hit edges and sharp areas like holes in the sheet metal as they are like a cheese grader and will ruin a wheel quickly. Paint is surprisingly harder to remove than surface rust because it gums up when it gets hot.
