- We're adding classic cars (1980s and older) to our CZcams reviews and for that we looked no further than our long time cameraman and Mustang project car owner - Chance. Todd and Paul step aside and let Chance begin the series with his own 1967 Ford Mustang aka Project Pony Up!

Thanks for giving me some ideas for my 68 falcon,I really enjoy driving it,she not the prettiest but I can't get gas with out someone wanting to talk about it.
I love it when people use old cars as daily drivers, it's not on the same level as a Mustang but i have a 1964 Volvo Amazon that i use as a daily driver and i love it. Old cars have souls, which newer cars don't really have.
My first car was a '67 mustang coupe with a inline 6 and a 3 speed on the floor. I was 15 years old. It was a hand me down from my sister and I drove the wheels off of it. Great fun and a great learning experience. My 2nd car was a '68 mustang with a 289ci and a 4 speed. I'm 57 now and this video really brought back some fantastic memories. Enjoy your car and drive the wheels off of it.

Thanks! We're being pretty broad about defining classics but generally speaking we are talking anything older than 1990ish.

Nice mustang. It is so nice to be able to develop a history with a car and make it your own. The classic first generation mustang is timeless and they deserve to be driven and restored to working order. I hope someday you can look back on all the different eras this car had in it’s different configurations and appreciate the fact that it always puts a smile on your face.

Extremely relatable, as I too have a '67 coupe that I'm going in the exact same Trans-Am inspired direction with. Awesome to see someone else enjoying the same situation I've got on my hands for all the same reasons, and also someone that's understanding that "life happens" and not everyone finishes a rotisserie restoration in 6 months. Just enjoy the car and enjoy the process. Great video!

Few CZcams videos I’ve watched have made me smile as much as this one, great story.
I did the same thing. I have a 65 Mustang coupe. Took a 302 engine and AOD transmission from a 1995 Mustang...but just to be safe, I had them both immediately rebuilt before installing into the engine bay (and added extra goodies like aluminum heads, etc), better safe than sorry. I had a carburetor setup, but over time, I switched to a Holly Sniper EFI set up, it starts and drives great...it’s now a reliable daily driver. Thanks for the awesome video.

Just saw this. I really enjoyed the story while you were driving. Pretty much summed up our addiction to old muscle.
You definitely have a passion for the car. I feel the same about my 68 mustang I've owned for 41 years. Its bone STOCK, my preference, understand lots of guy like to go your route and that's ok if it doesn't lead to the demise of the vehicle. Mines an early 68, built in 67, San Jose plant. Purchased in palm Springs California in December 67.. 289 auto, power steering, factory ac , 4 wheel drums.and has the optional turn signals in the hood. in extremely original condition, original engine, transmission, body all original except front bumper replaced in 81. Its in really great condition. And I still love taking it out couple times a month for a few days. Its still living in Palm Springs so it still has its original black and yellow plates. About 15 years ago I saw a really trashed 68 at the grocery store and noticed the plate was off from mine by 1 digit! They must have both been sitting there together when new lol. But was sad to see that one looking so awful, and mine looking nearly new. keep plugging away with your project till you're satisfied. It will be awesome.and will give you great pride in the final result.

Yeah, it's a pretty loud car inside. Road noise, exhaust drone, some wind noise, I'm honestly surprised the audio came out as clean as it did! Nature of old cars. Glad you enjoyed it otherwise!

Got my first car when i was 17,
1967 mustang 289, blew that up and put a 302 in. Im 20 now and im still fighting with it to keep it running for more than a month at a time, and i love every second.

My first 6 cars and trucks and motorcycles were standard shift. I hated automatics in the 1980'-1990's. I loved being involved in the driving of the vehicle.
No coffee mug in a console. Always moving the legs and arms. I felt more alert in a standard shift. Actually got exercise while driving.
Now, I zone zone out and eat and drink in the car and am a slug!

Nice work. I had a 70 with a 302 that I trans am'd. Definitely the way to go. Genius engine and brake swap. The stock Mustang brakes of that period were abysmal.
Great job. Love your car and I share your passion for the mustang. I've had my 67 for 22 years and bought it in college. All out restomod is the way to go. It looks the same and drives so much better. I beat my brothers new GT350 in autocross so these cars can be made to perform.

I said yep Im restoring 2 of them.....

Hello, I am commenting for the first time because this is what my whole life has been about. I love everything you have said and I think I can give you some things to think about. I love the engine change it sounds like after you said how much the heads were worth on the 302 they must be GT40X heads if it needs a cam with a better or different lift to duration you should do it. I think by what you said you want to make it a street/track car. You did everything right with the front end and brakes. I don’t know why you don’t change it to a 9 inch rear end with, I had a 456 gear in my first car a 1967 coupe with a 289 2 barrel but he left the gear in it. This was 1972 I bought the car for 750.00 what I had saved since I started working the day I turned 15. It had a 3 speed manual. You have your car covered transmission and front end if you want to put a different cam to catch up with your heads, I am assuming you have headers. I put heads on mine off a 302 with the big valves aluminum intake 780 Holley with the screw for the secondaries to be manual instead of vacuum operated cam I can still remember 511 lift 308 duration solid lifters, T10 Toploader 4 speed. Traction Bars no wheel hop positive traction. Your seats get 1969 high back buckets with correct seatbelts and finish the interior put a good steering wheel on it. I don’t believe in the statement all ford small-blocks leak they don’t if done right. Paint it red and black. I don’t know why you didn’t use the power steering off the Fox body, get the rack and pinion out of the Fox body change the steering box if you have to and use the power steering off the Fox body. I hope that saves you some money, time, and heartache. The car, your car done like I described will take corners so much better than anybody believes unless you have driven one. Buck
Buck Varner hey thanks for the remarks! It has Edelbrock Performer heads on it an m and a Ford Racing e303 cam on it as well as long tube headers. Fox body steering is garbage and isn't an easy swap so there's no point in going that route. I'm going to get the Borgeson 14:1 ratio integral power steering box and use the fox pump. I'm using the 8.8 because I pulled it from my donor car and they are pretty much as strong as the 9" for a lot less money. As for the seats, I'm getting aftermarket seats that have holes for a 5 point harness. I'm not too concerned about finishing the interior since it will be track focused. But yeah, the steering wheel will get replaced with something smaller in diameter but thicker to grip.

Kidding...my paint is falling apart, and she won't start at the moment, but I have the same thoughts as you regarding the Trans-Am style. Also, I knew I recognized this once I saw that railroad pic (probably from VMF)! Great job; I'm hoping to see more of this in the future.
Literally same thing I am doing to my 67. Same wheels , Did an 8.8 Rear swap. Dropped 1 inch all the way around. How did you get the modern brakes on it ?Had mine since I was 15.. Looks very similar and I have a 93 Fox donor car for the drive train. Were did you get your harness
Nice! I got my brake caliper brackets off eBay but the guy doesn't make them anymore... You can get a similar setup from Mustangsteve.com though. The harness I got from Ron Francis Wiring. There are several to choose from, the one I went with is for a Cobra kit car.

TMI has the seat foam and seat upholstery that you want, i put them in my 64.5 mustang and they are the bomb.

Awesome car bro. Most people dont understand why these cars are so alluring. The grind. The putting in the hours of work into something that you enjoy. These days if a person enjoys something then theres something wrong with them. Im currently working on a 66 mustang on yr 2 and one day I was buying some supplies from a parts store and the clerk asks me what im working on. I tell him its a 66 and he says" Its my dream to work on one sir". Well have a good day and God bless

Hey sorry I'm just now seeing this. The harness I bought is from Ron Francis Wiring. It's the one meant for Cobra kit cars.
