In my opinion cave14.ogg ( 1:19 ) is the scariest. Most of the other noises are standard ambient sounds that could maybe be chalked up to wind or roxks falling or whatever, but the glitchy sound of this one is so unnatural. It makes you fear whatever could be making the noise.
One way to predict them is by turning on the debug display with F3. Down on the left side near the bottom, you'll see a meter labeled "Mood". Once that meter reaches 100%, it will reset to 0% and a cave sound will play. The meter only goes up if it's dark or there are a lot of dark places nearby, which is another reason (besides keeping mobs from spawning) to light up your caves.
As for me, in any world I create, I immediately go into any large cave I encounter on my way in the hope of hearing one of these strange sounds. I really look forward to them and love them..(人 •͈ᴗ•͈) ♡♡~♪
The minecart rolling sound effect is definitely my favorite. Super creepy to imagine a mineshaft overhead, because who’s operating that minecart? I once heard that cave sound play while I was exploring a mineshaft as a young kid and I promptly quit the game 💀

Guys in minecraft trial 1.16 if you look at the first coal ore you can find at your right then go forward you may see a ruined portal but thats not all if you see a 2×3 or 6 coal ore near to the ruined portal and if you go near/step on it a cave sound will play most cave sounds that play in my game is cave 5 cave 1 cave 19
One of the them is the warden, and the other is the Enderman, these two are the ones who made the noises, I hope there's more monsters who made these noises coming soon...

I was in the creative mode part of the server (where you’d have a little plot of land to build on) minding my own business when I heard this super bizarre sound. It wasn’t a cave sound- it was something LOUD. I can’t describe exactly how it sounded, but everyone in the server at the time heard it. Initially I brushed it off as nothing….and then it happened again. It happened several times before stopping. Everyone in the server (myself included) was, understandably, VERY confused. I still haven’t been able to find the source of that sound. Guess I’ll have to keep looking.

I'm relatively new to Minecraft, my bf introduced it to me about 2 years ago. I've played with him, with friends, alone too... And today is one of my solo plays. And somehow it's the first time I've heard cave noises ! I don't know why I've never had them before.
This sounds are so iconic to me, I had so many experiences in hearing them, down to deleting worlds as a kid to getting scared of being alone in a minecraft server kinda weird thing to say but I can't imagine minecraft without this random creppy ambience, almost all of them are just hellish random sounds that can't be explained and I think thats why they are pretty effective at making you scared since you can't identify what or who is making those sounds. Even those that you can correlate with in game context (cave 16 sounding like minecarts for example), they can really catch you off guard, specially with cave16 and being in a mineshaft can give you small heart attack.
It actually happened to me the other night. You cannot believe how fast I turned off my PC. I think it was cave 19 that started playing, I don't remember. It was creepy as hell though because it gave me that feeling that I was being watched by someone in that cave.
Idk guys if you feel the same, but i think that from the most views moment. The scariest sound is the 14, but is very hard to describe why. I think thats because it has the more presence, we can compare it to the enderman chasing sound. But there are more details, when you hear it in the game, its just maddening.
One thing I hope comes with the cave update is cave noises to signify something in a cave. For example 16 could signify a mineshaft is nearby as the banging noises could come from the supports, or ones like 15 or wind noises could signify a stronghold

This is what makes Minecraft great. These sounds are terrifiyng and you get scared even though you know that there are no horror-game-like creatures or jumpscares in the caves (except for the Warden maybe but that one spawns only in certain recognisable areas).

This is what makes Minecraft great. These sounds are terrifiyng and you get scared even though you know that there are no horror-game-like creatures or jumpscares in the caves (except for the Warden maybe but that one spawns only in certain recognisable areas).
