Q: You took advantage of that HOA by dropping them.
A: No one took advantage of anyone. After the contract expired, I was maintained month to month. That means either party can cancel the other with 30 days notice. Also, I thoroughly explain the economics and business reasoning I did this in the video (you should watch it).
Q: I would never drop that property because of....
A: As I said, this video is explaining the reasons I made this decision. I understand that might not be the decision you would make. I am not looking for you to approve or disapprove of my choice, simply provide you with information that may or may not be entertaining or informative.
Q: How much was this contract worth?
A: When I was in contract it was close to $1075 a month. After my 3% increase it was closer to $1110 a month. As of September 2020 I was month to month with no guarantee of future employment beyond 30 days.
Q: You didn't technically quit you blah blah blah...
A: Do you know how CZcams works? If I title this video "The Reasons I Decided to provide 30 days notice on an annual contract that expired in September 2020" I COULDN'T because I don't have that many characters and even if I could no one would click it. :D
Q: Aren't you worried this video will hurt your future business prospects?
A: No. If anyone wouldn't hire me because of this, their values/reasoning don't align with mine, which means they likely would not have been a good fit as a client.
Q: You should have just hired some employees instead of dropping it.
A: You didn't watch the video or read the description.
Q: Why didn't you just keep doing month to month until they dropped you? I would have!

Please timestamp the point that showed my ego rather than the business/personal reasons I dropped it and I would be happy to discuss further. The example you mentioned (dropping someone because they added a trampoline, new gate, and patio furniture that physically prevented me from getting my mower in the back yard) was a business reason, as I explained in the associated video.

HOA’s. Occasionally these contracts work. But they are trying to lower cost for the residence and at the same time wanting quality work done. Things are so expensive in today’s world. And your youtube ad revenues are not something the hoa should have to take as a business decision. In fact I would not want to hire u being you have a second source of income being produced from my property, you have to pay a tax on that advertising fee and not at my expense, your second source of income cannot be free at my expense

Some business owners and managers will push you more and more to see how much you can take (they can get away with). My daughter was pushed like that until she finally just stopped going in. Not even a phone call. About a week later she went in to drop off her uniforms and equipment. They begged her to stay.
As a business owner myself I cannot imagine working people like that but I think some become very cynical about employees in general.

I was a steelworker 20 years until they closed the plant. After a 4 year degree, I did IT work for ten years until they outsourced to India. On the last job I could get, the take home was about 2.60 an hour for a 50 hour week, 365 days a year, zero benefits. With their system of wage garnishment for customer complaints you could end up owing the employer more money than you had made. After a few months of those hours, I began falling asleep behind the wheel. One day, I overslept through my entire shift and when I did finally wake up, all I could feel was gratitude and absolutely no remorse. They fined me two days of unpaid work for that no show. At that point I gave notice. They require a full month's notice or they fine you three months wages. I did the month because I could not afford a lawyer. I could not afford to quit but could not afford to work their either. On my last day my manager tried to wheedle me into working the weekend. Ha ha ha ha ha.

I completely understand you!! I’m a also a lawn care business out in Southern California. I also do all the work by myself. I started letting go all my cheap clients and focused on the ones who pay on time and appreciate the Quality of my work. I’m not as busy however I’m making more and the best part is I get spend a lot of time with my family and friends more. Being a business owner is awesome dude to the fact that we can choose what jobs to take. Bottom line: this is your business you run it however it pleases you. People always love to hate or have something say when they have absolutely no clue how to take care of a lawn. Keep doing you the best thing someone ever told me was move in silence.

I don't know why you take the time to explain to disgruntled, couch potato viewers about YOUR CHOICE on how to run YOUR business! You have a GREAT work ethic and it's NOBODY'S business on how or why you make your choices. In the words of Bruce Lee; "Empty heads have long tongues." Keep up the GREAT work, Brother!
