Some additional Pros and Cons I thought about after finishing this video...
    Pros:
    - Great soundtrack & SFX.
    - Nice screen shot mode & overall clean UI with decent customization options.
    - The developers "Smilegate" have shown many times to listen to the community and care about the game.
    - Training room where you can test builds with custom stats/engravings is amazing.
    Cons:
    - "The Tower" should be balanced separately for Healers & DPS, It's impossible for bards to clear tower fully at suggested item level.
    - There's a big botting issue in NA/EU due, reason being that Korean games require Korean SSN so devs often overlook the possibility of cheating when porting the game to other regions.
    - Life skills seem a bit underwhelming compared to other MMOs and are only really used as a money maker by creating battle items.
    - Abyss raids such as Argos don't show remaining boss HP % upon wipes like Guardian raids, I find this really annoying and causes frustration in raid groups.

Therein lies the problem, in a game such as Dark Souls or Elden Ring these kind of mechanics make sense. They're well choreographed and relatively easy to spot. In this game, where it's full of constant fairy glitter bombs? Not so much.
The only thing that has even remotely presented a challenge thus far in the game has been abyss dungeons/raids and that's solely because the bosses have one-hit kill abilities. That's literally the only difficulty this game has.
The guardian raids are a joke, they're ridiculously easy and the bosses just have a huge invisible health bar to add some sense of difficulty.
Chaos dungeons are probably the most braindead, boring and repetitive thing I have ever seen in any game ever. They suck so bad.
It's a shame because the core aspects of the game are fun, but dungeon/raid bosses are so laughably bad it just kills the entire end game experience.

If you ever fight that tower boss on a support character thats not over geared, you will realize that you dont need to see the ground to know which attack he is doing because he is already showing you which attack he is doing with his casting animation. I believe the point of the floor being covered in smoke is to have you engage more with what you are fighting by being forced to actually look at it , rather than staring at the ground the whole time looking for the red areas. The same goes for the blind mechanic. When you play a class that doesnt have the option of just kill the boss before they do anything. The experience of fighting the final boss of the t2 tower of fate on a bard that was not over geared, the final phases were super frustrating at first. Until i came to the conclusion that the point of those mechanics in that fight was to teach you that you can know exactly what attacks were coming without seeing the ground by focusing on the bosses animations, and eventually without even seeing the boss by focusing on the sounds the boss is making. Once you embrace it you will become enlightened like a blind folded ninja in the matrix

In most MMOs, the devs put the "build choice stats/attributes" on the gear, so you mainly just choose gear and skills. Here, they put it horizontally (gems, engravings, accessories, skill runes, card catalog, etc.). Not sure how I feel about it yet. Certainly took time to learn and can imagine it's confusing/overwhelming and seem like unnecessary complexity for casual players.

There is an apparent difference between tripots and accessories, tripots only drop for your class, therefore you can select the ones you want to keep during auto dismantling. For post 1370gs that just means you sell the ones that didn't get dismantled, and you don't need on the market, since these are the good ones for your class. For accessories, you also can loot class agnostic loot, therefore some are valuable to you, but most good ones you get are the ones for other people, which you can sell for TONS of gold in the market, if they add an auto dismantler for that, people will literally waste hundred thousands of gold per month in t3 chaos dungeons at current prices over various chars. You also can send these agnostic accessories to your other chars by mail, even if the account storage doesn't work. One example would be any accessory with swiftness (swift + spec for neck) + expert + awakening is worth tons for both paladin and bards. The cheapest with any amount of stats or engraving in t3 legendary is 10k right now, epic 2k. Higher quality with max engraving points is at a much higher cost. If they end up quickly adding the new Korean filter for this, it will be a massive noob trap/filter for the west version instead, dramatically cutting people's income in the game.

While I agree with your "pros" I can't believe how many content creators just refuse to acknowledge one of the biggest cons...the leveling experience. The first time leveling to 50 I really enjoyed the surprises and certain things were spectacular while the vast majority of it was a grind. Sure you get free "power passes" to instantly level up a few alts to 50 or spend some in-game gold to "knowledge transfer" more alt toons. But what this tells me is that the developer KNOWS the leveling experience is horrible. And if you find a friend that is on a different server then you HAVE to level up to 50 again since your roster is server specific and power passes can only be used on your roster server where you already have a 50. However, don't think that you can level up with that friend because the level-to-50 experience is designed to be SOLO. The game literally puts you in individual scenarios, even if you are grouped, to play through by yourself which is about 50% of the leveling experience.

Regarding the auction house search function - you can search for specific amount of nodes by inputting the value you're looking for next to the engraving effect (e.g. min value 2 for grudge = only show accessories with grudge +2). If you meant for ability stones, the rarity of the stone determines the amount of nodes. As for the search resetting when switching between accessory categories, if you switch categories using the left side panel instead of within the advanced search, your search criteria will stay the same (unless you have 2 combat stats in your search, then only necklaces will appear).

These are a few things I did not hear mentioned.
    Pros:
    1. The training room is a min-maxers best friend to really figure out ones exact damage (usually over the span of a minute and against a stationary target but option for moving target)
    2. The music might be small to some but I can't help but get some of the songs stuck in my head especially the damn romantic weapon for those gruesome honing attempts
    3. Life skills are great. Not quite as satisfying as New World but very much up there especially if you find a profession you really enjoy. For me i've jumped between Hunting, Excavating and Gathering.
    Cons:
    1. The friends list sucks. I have to add people to friends list, roster list, all roster idk it's bad.
    2. The bots which are in every mmo and possibly every online multiplayer game ever. (Good they put effort in to stop it though.)
    3. Stealth missions. I absolutely hate these xD One of the best parts if not THE best part about Lost Ark is it's incredibly satisfying combat. Why would i do a stealth mission that forces me to walk slowly and not be able to fight back? and no, a lantern that sometimes 1 shots ghouls and sometimes takes 4 shots out of the 6 total light beams u have does not count as combat. Please god no more of these if possible.

The fight at 12:55 IS clearly telegraphed. They teach you the pattern of the hit boxes on the floor while at the same time showing you the movement of the bosses arms. They show you enough to when the patterns no longer appear on the floor, you can tell how to dodge by looking at his arm movements. Other than that, great review.
Another correction. There is a limit to knowledge transfer. You can only knowledge transfer up to 9 times in each new major zone after lvl 50. Not only that. You need to go through rohendel (for example) when you want to knowledge transfer skip rohendel for an alt. So if you do rohendel once, you unlock a rohendel knowledge transfer, then you'd have to do rohendel on another alt to unlock the skip for your next alt. At least that's what i get from it, becasue right now my Knowledge Transfer for rohendel says I need to play through rohendel again to unlock another knowledge transfer for rohendel. Honestly it is both a really useful system but has the dumbest restrictions for no reason whatsoever, because apparently KR doesn't have them. I just don't understand why they only let us skip the 1-50 story only 9 times. I don't want to go through that again at all after the first time. Yet another thing apparently added to US to fuck the player base. And to me this is the thing that pisses me off the most, because I want to play every class, but now I'm restricted to doing so unless i want to start a character all the way from the beginning and FUCK THAT.

Just do the whole fight until darkness, keep your serenade bar, and pots... When darkness starts just stay on the boss and run around him - statistically you will get hit only by that standard AOE around him, you can easily run around of cone and empty middle space attacks. You should have enough HP and shield ready to easily survive that. Pummel him with stigma and soundholic. When he starts his laser phase, just run circles and when he finnishes you go ALL IN - cast your true courage for 30 percent damage buff, heavenly tune for 20 percent damage buff, harf and dark grenade for 30 percent reduced defenses and smack him with that awakening. You will just one shot him and its done.

One thing that Lost Ark does not have is that feeling you get with other MMOs when you find something others don't have. You know that feeling back in the day with WOW when you ran a raid and finally got that cool sword or chest piece or when you killed some world mob and it dropped really rare gloves. In POE when you grinding maps and a super rare piece drops. In Lost Ark you honestly know each Tier level what you get and just level those up. Everyone else who has that class gets the same thing and does the same thing. I understand its the structure of the game and can't see how it could fit, but I see it as something of a con for me.

    • @travellingslim
      @travellingslim Před 2 lety

I had this thought too but lately have been having mixed feelings. Group wipe mechanics certainly suck for a random pub party with no communication, but do make it more team-based and fun if you're actually playing with friends. Also, what I have found organically, is it almost forces people to communicate and work with each other. When a random new player comes in, doesn't know mechanic, group wipes, what I've seen most of the time is someone in the group will try to explain it in chat and the group will at least try a few more times after explaining to see if they can get it. If the new player learns the mechanic, the group defeats the encounter, it is certainly one of those "mmo experiences" for everyone that is organic and is more than just "mash buttons against the boss, oh and by the way there happens to be other ppl in the same area doing it too"

After playing the game for more than 400 hours.. I can say some stuff about this game.
Now, I know people might not agree with this first thing I'm about to say, but personally, yes, you can progress through the game with only a SINGLE character. You can get to t3 1370 with one single character. Luck depends on it, but as of the moment, with the buffs that they will give us and the amount of materials we can get from other sources will definitely let people reach 1370+ easily. However, in the future, when you are trying to get to 1400+ ilvl, obviously the people with multiple alts are tier 3 will get their mains to reach higher ilvls faster.. unless you swipe.
As of the moment, the game just feels repetitive at least in NA/EU because of the lack of materials and things we can do in game. Now what do I mean about this? At one point, you will reach 1325+ ilvl, and because of the scarcity of the materials (Which should be changed in a few days) you won't reach 1370 instantly as f2p and you will spend days or weeks just to unlock the next content. Now, there is other content, life skills, collectibles, rapports, side quests pvp and just overall exploring. However we all know that the real content everyone is looking for are the ones that give you amazing rewards without picking up mokokos which gets boring for most people.
The honing upgrades are fine, yes, fine, eventually we will reach 5% to 1% of honing. It is a korean mmorpg and it has always been this way, nothing I can say about that. Pay to win? Yes. Still fun to play despite being pay to win? Yes. Just because something is pay to win, does not mean it is not fun. It just means, if you are someone who always looks at other peoples gear instead of just focusing on your own then you will feel jealous because in no dimension or world will you ever be the top player with the best build/armors in a game that is pay to win.
Cosmetics? There are only a few for now, but they will be extremely better soon enough, I am f2p, but I will pay for those skins a lot instead of swiping for progression.
The PvP is amazing, yes, there are classes that you will need to put on 2x more work than they will because of how overpowered they are. But eventually you will learn how to cheese them.
The story? At first it will suck, then further on in the game it becomes better, not the best , but not bad. Just like the video said, the content isn't in the 1-50 grind, but in the endgame grind.
Now what about free to play players? How in the world can we get gold to actually play the game? Is it even possible to become a gold millionaire as f2p?Yes, yes it is, as for now, the only good way to earn gold is through being lucky, doing tradeskills and choosing to sell your materials in exchange of losing potential progression. But I am sure this will change in the future when we get more content.
Community? Toxic most of the time, but you will still see a lot of nice people.
How do I feel about this game? I like it, I will continue playing it for the next months, maybe years to come. I am currently at 1362, yes.. I am stuck and kept on losing honings. I have 3 characters at tier 3 and they are funneling materials to my main. The honing sucks but it is what it is. I play the game to have fun, to take me away from my own painful reality. I am f2p, I never look at peoples progression, only my own and I guess my friends progressions but I never judge them or say the game is unfair. The thing is, the less you look at other people, the more you will enjoy this game. And I think that applies not only in this game, or any games with these types of content.. but also in real life where you can enjoy your life if you just simply.. stop being jealous at other people and start being thankful for what you have reached.

You can progress just fine without alts, it's just slower...sort of. There are plenty of islands that will give you a ton of T1 and T2 honing mats for your main so if you just focus on the "horizontal" progression aspects for a bit (these islands specifically) you'll actually get through the first two tiers faster than someone who does a bunch of dailies on alts. If you do like alts, they contribute to your main's progression (which I like because then it doesn't feel like you're slowing down your main by playing something different), but you can progress just fine with a single character and not bother feeding your main. I personally have alts, but I haven't been transferring mats and I'm most of the way through T2 on my main with casual play.

It really isn’t necessary for vertical main char progression. I personally love alts but my buddy who has played half the time I have has kept up with me as a single char. In tier 3 there are infinite chaos dungeons you can do which allows you to grind out sellable mats and lvl up your character just as fast as if you had alts to switch mats over

It's not a very friendly game for casual players.
Reaching lvl 50 was a pain for someone like me that has a office job and lot of stuff to do with not much time to play everyday.
I spent more than a week trying to get to lvl 50 tediously spamming the G key until all the hype I had for the game vanished when I got to the endgame.
At the next day, playing the first chaos dungeons and guardians was fun, but, as Peon mentioned, repeating the same one over and over got really boring.
But what made me quit the game, was that after so so so much questing, weeks of questing, I found myself doing quests again to unlock the next chaos dungeons and guardians.
I didn't want to do more questing and that made me lose interest for the game completely, the next day I didn't even wanted to open it.
People say that you can reach from lvl1 to lvl50 in a few hours, like in 6 hours, but casual players like me, we do not have 6 hours to play in a day. Those 6 hours took me a whole week.
It's quite a nice game overall, but for a community of already exausted MMO players jumping from game to game, with not much will to play left, the experience for a new player was the most boring I ever had so far.

Just doing dailies like Una's Tasks, guardian raids, chaos dungeon, travelling time, increasing my rapport, already takes a couple of hours of my time. It's probably great if you got loads of free time but if you only have 4 hours a day to play game, I feel its something quite tight to balance if you feel like playing something else.
Not to mention guardian raids can take a lot of time if you're doing the highest lvl you're allowed and not all of them can be solo'ed easily on some classes.
