    Purchased a Badfish Selfie 14 this weekend. Wow...... inflatables have come a looooong way. I remember back in the day when paddling an inflatable felt like you were paddling a Coleman air mattress! The new technology is amazing. Check out Badfish and their story. Solid gear. You will certainly appreciate! Cheers Brother! Love the new Dory!

    I have 4 cheap paddle boards well below your 650$ price. They have been reliable and nothing has broken. There are issues with maneuverability, but I knew that was going to be a problem.
    Since I have not had many issues, I bought the 4th board at the sizzling price of 200$, hoping to have the same results. All have a pressure rating of 15 pounds.

    Thanks to your enthusiasm, I decided last week to give paddle boarding on a lake a try. I tried to SUP at sea, a long time ago and wasn't all that fond of it. But on the lake, it turned out to be the ideal sport for me. Nice and quiet in nature. I felt the stress leave my body and by the end of the 2 hours, I felt I had a content smile on my face. That smile lasted me for 2 days.
    And thanks to this video I ordered a Red Paddle WindSUP. This will also allow me, when there is too much wind, to enjoy the water with a small sail. My aim is not to go fast, my aim is to go nice and easy, being stress free and avoid cortisol levels going through the roof. Greetings from Belgium.

    My $399 Bodyglove iSup Performer 11 from Costco has been flawless for 2 years. Hot weather, cold weather, large open lakes, ponds, rocky bottom rivers, and creeks. 15psi more then enough stiffness and I weigh 180, my dog(s) and equipment another 50-100lbs plenty strong.

    I've test paddled a number of isups including the Red Paddle and Black Fin and the absolute best board for the money (by far) is the Body Glove Performer 11' at Costco (store or online) for $399. Stiffer than the others since they use triple stringers (like i beams for strength) and even my 230lbs does not flex the board.

    I ruptured the seam of my almost 2yr old Red Paddle 12’6” Voyager. I contacted Red Paddle about where to get my board repaired. They asked for my warranty info and then offered to replace my board. đŸ„łThe new 2021 12’6” Voyager, while not as pretty as my previous one, is awesome and even more rigid than the previous one. Their customer service was top notch and because of this I bought the 11’ compact model, which I haven’t received yet. But I’m looking forward to the lighter board for more everyday use. The Voyager is a bit heavy for me to carry daily and best kept for touring paddling and not for a quick 45 min to hour long jaunt and back home

    Great video and some solid direction for beginners! Question for ya, when you are on an extended trip do you have a contingency plan to re-inflate mid trip? Does the PSI fluctuate with temp? Do you need to release pressure if the board will be sitting out for the day not used? Thanks!

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  Pƙed 5 lety +3

      Glad you enjoyed it Tyler! The first overnighter I did (2 nights) on the budget board that you see in the video I brought a pump with me. I think I lost like 2lbs over the first night... On my Red Paddle Co board, I rarely even check the PSI in it... It has been inflated since I've had it, several months. I think you should be good without a pump if you go with a nice board. But you can get some smaller manual pumps that will work for topping your board off. I wish I had this one - www.k-pump.com/K_20_p/898918000119.htm

    I was checking reviews about the iRocker All around SUP and the Blackfin.. and almost decided for the Blackfin, but I also heard about the Jobe Yarra 10'6'' x 32''.. which one would you recommend?
    The Jobe does not have the same high quality accessories, but regarding the board it seems to have a good quality, holding a quite good pressure - 18-20 PSI. Hope you can help me :)

    I would say the paddle is more important than the board. Getting a nice paddle is key for efficiency and comfort. Isups come in different types. Theses reviewed more the touring type with tie downs, rings, and handles. Also common on white water boards. Other types exclude these features because their indented use. All around boards limit tie downs for light surf for more footwork placement. Irocker/ blackline looks like a nice value but spending the extra money is worth it if you intend to use it often and passionate about sup. I have a Jimmy from 5 years back and it's still going strong. A quality board from a respected brand is key to great adventures and fun. Tripp, really like your adventure videos on sup. Thanks man! Well said. I do think that most people these days "envision" themselves doing some overnight trips so they want a board capable of it. Plus a lot of people like to strap on a chair or a cooler and other gear, even for day trips, so the extra attachment points come in hand. The extra handles are a no brainer for me for all uses really.

    Did you use the Blackfin at rockadock? If so what were your thoughts on this board specifically, i.e. performance, stability, amount of deflection. I've been looking at this board but just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. Now I'm almost waiting for 2019 models to see if anything changes.

      You know, I didn't.... I did lend it out to some folks to try as I wasn't sure when I would get to go paddling. They came back with only positive reports so I think it should be a good board. To be honest, a lot of ISUP's are similarly shaped which would give them similar stability, performance and deflection properties. I will be trying it very soon and reporting back for sure!

It's a little skinny for beginners but I've used it in the FLA Keys, and the lakes and rivers here in Missouri without issue. If you're NOT made of $$$, do your research and you can spend less that $300 and get a good board.

      My girlfriend and I paddle on Aqua Marina inflatables and Connelly hard boards. The Connelly hard boards a good compromise between durability (skin is made of same sort of plastic that Kayaks are made of), light wieght (skin is thin and core is foam) and price (we paid about $400 each). We had other hard plastic boards before since we primarily paddle shallow rivers but they were hollow and developed "divots" were our feet go that became uncomfortable. The Aqua Marina inflatables we a nice surprise in that are pretty good considering what we paid. We bought the Magma off Amazon just before Xmas and got a great deal ($225ish) and found a Fusion at (of all places) Burlington Coat Factory for $120. The inflatables are primarily for long distance travel, but we have used them on our local rivers and have found them to be surprisingly durable!

Now I'm wondering as a complete novice looking for relaxing paddling, some kayaking option possibly, etc., model x or xl. 5'7" and about 130. Hubs is 5'9 and about 200, and will use feomtime to time. Thoughts? Thanks for doing these and sharing your reviews and expertise for us newbies!!

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  Pƙed 5 lety

      I would suggest the XL model. For general paddling it's a touch longer and narrower which gives better speed and still about the same stability, for not much more money.
      That would go for both you and the hubs, no need for him to have a XL which is easier to paddle than the X. Typically men are stronger paddlers so it would be tough paddling together.

      @TripSmith  Pƙed 5 lety

      @@divetsmom4042 Yea I want entirely clear. I was trying to say that the stronger paddler doesnt need the most efficient board (but often time people get a smaller craft for the female which I think isnt always smart, especially when it's nearly the same weight as larger options). It would be best for you both to get the XL in my opinion. If you both plan on doing longer distance overnights, the V might be a good option for you both as well. The kayak option is something I'd steer clear of personally. You're much better off with a cooler like a Engel Dry Box - amzn.to/2paLWWB which comes in pink and baby blue BTW for a seat. The conversion seat they have isn't going to be comfortable for long as you are basically sitting on the board and leaning against "something".

      I don't know how "new" you are but the Model V is narrower than the XL and X which gives it slightly less stability. If you have decent balance though you should be fine with the V. Unless you are planning long days of paddling many miles I think you would be just as happy with the XL over the V, but the V is "cooler" ;)

      Probably going to answer this question Live on the next Reply Line Show - czcams.com/play/PL-fvZ7RpVpmnzH5FnkSkWLvXQq1jUiBmj.html Will probably be going a little more in depth than I did here.

      @@TripSmith cool! I should watch all :). I just decide to go Irocker all-around 11. Once I become "a paddler", I would like to get V or more nice one. Since I am in europe, it is still expensive :D
