@cedkaba actually, game manufacturers will argue even emulating a game you own is piracy. You see, the software that decodes and executes the game was only ever licensed to run on that specific hardware. By going around that, you're breaking the terms of that license agreement, and they'll argue you never had the right to do that. Secondly, if purchasing does not constitute ownership, then stealing it is not theft. Period. Viva la piracy.
With how GTA 6 is coming, that will be the big enough push to convince the average person subbing is ideal/okay in gaming. If we ever suggested such things for books or media that after a certain threshold they effectively aren't in circulation or have a massive mark up people would boycott. Why it kills to see so many people talking with their wallets instead of just not buying random shit for the good of gaming ❤ big picture guys
This is why I dislike the fact that cloud storage is becoming a lot more prevalent today as the main go to way to manage personal data. Companies can just take away your data or effectively erase content in a moment's notice and you can do very little to prevent that. Ownership over your own games, music, videos has become more of a myth with each passing day with how companies pretty much have monopoly over the space that is being used to host other people's digital products.
THis is actually an insane level of robbery. Imagine the plethora of money spent on digital copies, just to have someone erase it all, shrug their shoulders, and walk away, just because they dont want to host it anymore, is pretty insane.
Why, you're paying for the data and games use to cost more. Check out the prices of nes, snes and sega genesis games out. I clearly remember mortal kombat 3 ultimate costing $89.98 at Walmart. And that was in the 90's where $89 went a lot further. So that game would probably be around $150+ in today's economy.

Then make a game yourself and do that. It's the companies that make them and maintain them. They decided hoe much it costs and why, even if you dont agree with that, it is the truth.
I read an article about emulating old, abndoned games and it made a great point about how video games are the only medium where that becomes necessary: "Imagine if, in order to watch Titanic, you had to track down a VHS and a functioning VCR." And that logic is the basis for why I think pirating certain games is morally justifiable.
If a company abandons their game it should be public domain. If it only required a few years, that’d cause problems with live service games or any new games still being sold.
