I think the review is great:) I didn't even know that it had a FM-transmitter(part II). And I like that the speech is so loud and clear, without any form of disturbance.
1. portrait will come in a firmware update, they already mentioned this. 2. How is the design outdated? Works perfectly well and has all the features it needs. 3. Although its chunky, it fits in the hand/pocket nicely, I should know. 4. Resistive can be just as good as Capacitive. 5. Its open source, the aps will grow in number eventually. iPhone had practically none when it launched. Just a few points I thought I'd share with you.. :)
In my experience with it, it responds near enough the same. Although it takes a firmer press. Both sets of tech have their advantages and disadvantages. Browsing the web is a lot nicer when you have the option to use a stylus to hit links, if the need arises.
Oh Jon, i've been waiting for this phone for so long. Looking forward to seeing the review. And please let me know which one do u like the most btw Iphone 3Gs and Nokia N900. Thanks.
well , after seeing this review , i think this new operating system looks pretty cool and hi tech. Im still considering about this 2. The iphone appearance looks very awesome and the touchscreen is very sensitive but, now that it has been released for like 3 years now and alot of people have it i think ill go for the n900. Besides, the n900 has a massive memory which could be very fast.
I mean the design works fine. Has everything is needs. Works well enough from my experiences. For example the slider and keyboard are pretty good, and get the job done.
You'd actually be surprised with how nice the keyboard is. It's take a day or two of use to get used too but it feels pretty nice. I was surprised because I thought it'd be too cramped.
Gave up buying an N900 and now I'll get an N97. It was just too tough to get one, since I live in Brazil. And the N97 Comes With Music, wich is great for a music freak like me!
@jodirt2k7 I have a N900 that I use on AT&T. It works, but you should know that you will not get 3G speeds if you go this route. I have wifi at home and work, so this limitation doesn't matter to me.
I'm not arguing with you except for the design part, but how can resistive be as good as capacitive? I can't find any advantages of it, other than you can use anything to use it (stylus).
I've used both, and the only plus side iPhone has over the N900 is the app store - which is a gimmick as best as the majority of the apps are useless after the novelty value wears off. Imo its better to have the full web experience the N900 offers, alongside its widgets and linux based apps. Plus, its an open source OS meaning anyone (who knows) can code for it. So lots of FREE applications available.
hello LP! just a small request, please do the review of upcoming nokia n8 when it is available. i have seen many reviews but none of them are as good as you do it(you know that). thanks in advance :)
i use Y! Music, SHOUTcast, and CBS Radio. type "live radio" in iTunes search bar and you'll see tons of apps for it. There even one for live police radio called, "Scanner 911", its been in our top 1 in here in canada.
I have treasured this piece of art safely. I worked on lot of mobile operating systems but Maemo was something which could have made a huge impact. Internal politics never let it rose 😐
Dude lol! if you want to steal my phone xD Good review! I really consider buying the n900.. i am going to buy a new phone in a few days.. and this one really looks cool! Thnx!
Do agree, and of course it's about the technology. But the person who talks about can surely make it more or less intressting. I am not saying that Jon isn't good. But LP really is the best reviewer I have ever seen :) But of course everyone can have their own oppinion! ;)
Touch screen is pretty responsive, one of the better resisitives I've tested. It just requires a firm press. It's all down the user, and what they prefer. I'm not fussed either way.. As long as the device does that its advertised as doing, that's good enough for me.
I hear that a lot, but when you have it in your hand or pocket it doesn't feel *that* big. Always got to remember that its an internet tablet, with a phone built in.. not the other way around. ;)
the n900 is able to do that and more without needing to modify the device (jailbreaking). it doesn't need an appstore because, there are many free apps that you can download off the internet all for free.
Nokia said that Maemo is going to take over their top line of phones, while Symbian remains with the lower priced ones... but yeah, I'm expecting to see it on lots more phones through 10/11 :)
1. N900 has its own app store and it allows you add custom library's. 2. You can do all that WITHOUT the need to jailbreak and void your warranty. 3. iPhone runs on application at a time. 4. Although I agree the iPhone design is good, that doesn't make the N900's bad.. I always fail to see how this argument makes any sense. I have the N900 (and I've used iPhones before).. It's not THAT big that it feels uncomfortable to use.
"proprietary usb synch cable" wrong, its an extremely standard micro-usb connection. in europe, every mobile phone has to have a micro-usb port form 2010 on.
This phone looks bad ass, and I like that it has a nice chunk to it. Having large hand and skinny fingers, thin phones are difficult to use for me. Must. Get.
Heres my take on it.. N900: Wed users iPhone: Applications and fashion victims HD2: Everything else So it really comes down to what you want from the phone.
One of the few phones to have real multitasking.
Back in 2019 and I miss this phone so much
Miss this bad boy! Had this phone for 3years and it was truly a unique and fantastic experience!
I still have mine. only usb port broken
Thanks for review, one of the best I managed to find about this phone on youtube.
INCREDIBLE quality video.
this was by far my favorite cell phone i ever had thinking of getting it again
awesome "1st look" cant wait for the full review!
I think the review is great:) I didn't even know that it had a FM-transmitter(part II).
And I like that the speech is so loud and clear, without any form of disturbance.
lp rocks.. keep up the good work !
WESC for the win!
LP you are the man!!
this guy does great reviews.
he sounds like someone that could do a voiceover for a funny commercial
1. portrait will come in a firmware update, they already mentioned this.

Watching this in 2017 is weird. 😂
I feel same.... but Nokia was way ahead in the game until Apple found how to be sleek. Nokia's were still bulky.
2023 😅
sick phone!! 5mp camera that's amazing. look like a great phone.
Beautiful phone
His reviews are so good :-)
In my experience with it, it responds near enough the same. Although it takes a firmer press. Both sets of tech have their advantages and disadvantages.
Browsing the web is a lot nicer when you have the option to use a stylus to hit links, if the need arises.
LP is probably the best person on the technobuffalo team
I have this phone. Great, great, great device! Maemo is a brilliant OS.
LP you're awesome!
Oh Jon, i've been waiting for this phone for so long. Looking forward to seeing the review.
And please let me know which one do u like the most btw Iphone 3Gs and Nokia N900. Thanks.
I'll wait for the HD amazingness!!
Google Pixel: *hahahahaha*

great review and funny!
awesome review! and the n900 is still a better phone today late 2011!
As it stands, quite a few are already out. More are in development and there's already a ton of plug-ins available in the development catalog.
I like how LP makes jokes throughout his reviews.
I mean the design works fine. Has everything is needs. Works well enough from my experiences.
For example the slider and keyboard are pretty good, and get the job done.

im getting this soon, and I saw a video showing that if u press CTRL+Shift and O you get portrait mode
Gave up buying an N900 and now I'll get an N97. It was just too tough to get one, since I live in Brazil. And the N97 Comes With Music, wich is great for a music freak like me!
your videos are so funny. please keep it up.
good to know...thanks dude...
looks neat. When does it come out?
i don't know why lp doesn't have is own channel... he's the only reason i'm subbed to jon
on number 2, what does it working perfectly and having all the features have to do with the design???
does it have a screen protector on?
My favourite mobile this
@jodirt2k7

Where i can get this???
i love you LP :D

yes,
I have treasured this piece of art safely.
I worked on lot of mobile operating systems but Maemo was something which could have made a huge impact. Internal politics never let it rose 😐
Nice!
yep, ive like to find AMOLED screen on n900 too. however i think theyll put it in the following maemo-phone device
good phone
This guy and Jon no 1 else/
Portrait mode is going to be included in a firmware update soon. He should have mentioned that.
its 2016 and i am looking to get this. its 165 on amazon.
this was by far my favorite cell phone i ever had thinking of getting it again i payed about $600 for it
yes, postmarketOS makes it even more worth it
its 2019 and the prices have shot up
I was surprised with the quality I got out of the camera too. :) even though its not a "camra phone" it still takes pretty decent images.
Why is there 2 manuals?
Dude lol! if you want to steal my phone xD
Good review! I really consider buying the n900.. i am going to buy a new phone in a few days.. and this one really looks cool! Thnx!

But of course everyone can have their own oppinion! ;)
check out the HTC HD 2
aw man, this is cool
Haha I'll never forget this device, my first ever nokia when i was 10
Aww it's the Finnish version! Hell yeah!!
Touch screen is pretty responsive, one of the better resisitives I've tested. It just requires a firm press. It's all down the user, and what they prefer. I'm not fussed either way.. As long as the device does that its advertised as doing, that's good enough for me.
@inmedx i have a g1 lol this phones probably better in many ways but im still lovin the g1's keyboard
i agree
I hear that a lot, but when you have it in your hand or pocket it doesn't feel *that* big.
Always got to remember that its an internet tablet, with a phone built in.. not the other way around. ;)

@LaurenMusic92 I just baught one, last one in my country!
Nokia n900
It's their channel, let them do as they wish with them.
@babybungbu i totally agree

I haven't watched these videos yet but make sure you check out the part 2.
Tmobile g1 is an htc by the way
aww, you didn't get the hackerbox LP ?
Nokia said that Maemo is going to take over their top line of phones, while Symbian remains with the lower priced ones... but yeah, I'm expecting to see it on lots more phones through 10/11 :)
i like the retail box for the n900
1. N900 has its own app store and it allows you add custom library's.
2. You can do all that WITHOUT the need to jailbreak and void your warranty.
3. iPhone runs on application at a time.

I lost that pen.. Where did i get it from
Does anyone known if N900 can be used on ATT network?

i'm so much happier with my samsung galaxy s

This phone looks bad ass, and I like that it has a nice chunk to it. Having large hand and skinny fingers, thin phones are difficult to use for me. Must. Get.
How is the micro usb cable proprietary? Its universal!!!
@ZekerDope
He has to return it.
I saw that you had Aftonbladet, you speak English, Finnish and Swedish?
if this phone was on a carrier with a discounted price i may consider buying it
thats because its an internet tablet, with a phone feature. ;) its part of that range of devices..
@mihalachedoru probably the same, majority of them are make in finland. Maybe you got lucky ;P
still got mine mint condition
@FunnyGlitcher but this screen is so sensitive it feels almost the exact same...
Heres my take on it..
N900: Wed users
iPhone: Applications and fashion victims
HD2: Everything else
So it really comes down to what you want from the phone.
Why was I expecting Jhon's voice? :D
n900 or nokia c7? i need everybody opinion ,thx for hellp me
