    So many memories. I was at the game. A life-long Cardinals fan. But more than that just a fan of the game. I was sitting next to an individual, who had no loyalty to either team. He just loved baseball. A student of the history of the game. (He was a White Sox fan but was not able to attend the final game of the 2005 World Series, which the White Sox won because his wife was having a baby. So his boss had gotten him tickets to Game 6 in St. Louis) As I am very much astute on the history of baseball, we had some great conversations during the ebbs and flows of the game. Obviously, I was rooting for my team but really enjoyed having someone who understood just how things were playing out to talk too. When it was all said and done, after Freese hit the game-winning homer, he hugged me, congratulated me and said "we just saw the best game ever played." I thanked him, and agreed, and told him what a pleasure it was to spend such memorable night next to someone who loves the game as much as I do.

    Cruz's inability to make the catch on Freese's 9th inning triple cost the Rangers a World Championship. That ball was catchable for a major league right fielder. I still don't know what Cruz was thinking.

    • @dantheman5745
      @dantheman5745 Před 3 lety +2

      Agree 100%. By all accounts, Nelson Cruz is a really good guy, but how he totally skates w/o any criticism for this play boggles my mind. 11:33 is the moment every ballplayer LIVES for. Whatever position you're playing, you have got to be thinking about what you are going to do if the ball is hit to you. And your mind must be laser-focused that whatever it takes, you will get to that ball. Cruz was not mentally prepared for the play.
      If you're an outfielder, you have got to be thinking, "Ball, then wall." That's the order in which you prioritize things. Worry about catching the ball & squeezing your mitt on it, then worry about how you're going to deal with the wall. With that ball in the air, knowing if you catch it, you win the World Series, an outfielder has to utterly disregard the wall.
      Cruz not only needlessly pulled up, thinking the wall was closer than it actually was, but he also took his eye off the ball to find out where the wall was. WHO CARES WHERE THE WALL IS???!!!! Catch the ball! I don't care if a train is coming. Catch the ball, then worry about whether you get hit by the train or not.
      Even if it's a bang/bang play, ball then wall, (which is wasn't going to be), and even if you crash into the wall at full speed, you've got the entire off-season to recover from whatever injuries you sustain. Before Freese ever hit that ball, this had to be Cruz' focus and determination. I don't know what he was thinking about before the ball was hit, but it certainly wasn't on what he needed to do if the ball was hit toward him. He wasn't ready for the moment. And it cost him and all of his teammates a World Series championship that many of them would never get the opportunity to win again.
      Hamilton also merits some criticism here too, IMO. Not that he would've necessarily got the out at home, but where in the world was he as that ball caromed off the wall back toward 2nd base? On any ball hit deep down either line, there should always be 2 outfielders running. Either the left- or right-fielder to the ball, and the center-fielder to back the play up in case it ricochets off the wall. Hamilton was nowhere in sight. Cruz had to run all the way in to make the throw himself.
      BTW, I played center field for over 20 years. I'm not saying that Cruz should've done anything I didn't do myself. And I never got paid a dime for it.

      It really felt like he was not enthusiastic about the wildcard winning so much in the post season.

    6:40. Manager runs out to complain about a call, in the history of the world has this ever done any good?😁

      George Brett pine tar bat game. Billy Martin, the manager of the Yankees at the time, came out of the dugout and complained that he thought the pine tar was too high on George Brett’s bat. The umps examined the bat and ultimately agreed with Martin. George Brett’s home run (which was in the Top of the 9th inning by the way, and put Kansas City in front of the Yanks) was overturned. Brett came storming out of the dugout about to kill those umpires when the lead umpire came to the KC dugout and told the KC manager that the home run was being overturned. So, in rare cases, a manager complaining to an umpire DOES work. Of course now with instant replay things are handled a lot differently.

    Only Joe Buck can ruin a game as good as this. His voice sounds just awful.
