BIRTLEY RAILWAY STATION AND HOTEL

Both the Station Hotel and Railway Station long gone. I loved the old Station Hotel Building sad when it was demolished. But in our area we are used to things being demolished. So many memories are gone from my younger days. Hope you enjoy this look back and a few images from now.

I love looking at the old railway stations. There are some beautiful ones still left, but sadly most are gone.

I used to tour old railway stations in the late 70s and I understand your frustration at it being demolished but there was no realistic use for it especially as a hotel. BTW the photo at 2.09 is Lamesley station which can be distinguished by the fence separating the centre platforms.

Its a shame good goes to bad. Its the railway companies that make the decision to close stations. Not enough money is made. Greed is the order of the day.
