How things have changed over the years but everywhere is the same. For me not for the better. I could point the blame but what is the point. I just hang on to the memories of how it used to be. What else can you do?

I used to tour old railway stations in the late 70s and I understand your frustration at it being demolished but there was no realistic use for it especially as a hotel. BTW the photo at 2.09 is Lamesley station which can be distinguished by the fence separating the centre platforms.

There is a Beamish Village now. The Museum was called Beamish Museum because of the Area it was in. There are parts of the Museum that were originally there before the Museum. There is a Farm, Pockerley Hall and a drift mine. We love it and you only pay once and get a 12 month pass. With been over 60 me and Carole paid about 37 pound for two passes and we can go as many times as we want in the Year. Love to you and Sanja.

Worked on The Demon's Den ghost train for a Summer in 1972. Used to jump onto the back of the car and crouch down, then halfway through would run my fingers through the passengers hair, halfway through the ride was a hidden door so i would jump off and go through the door and be standing infront before the ride came to a halt. Fantastic days.

Lovely video and choice of music. I was 11 years old at the time and can recall walking to school through canyons of piled snow heaped in the gutters. I can also remember huge icicles hanging from roof gutters like stalagmites. Again, like many others at this time, the house my family lived in had one coal fire and no central heating and I awoke from my heavily blanketed bed every morning to fantastic frosted patterns on the inside of the windows of my bedroom. Living in a city I do not recall the electricity or gas services being cut off or the school being closed; the coal was delivered locally from a coal yard within a goods station and to me, at least, life seemed to carry on as normal - particularly given the circumstances. As most people have commented, people looked out and helped each other as best they could.

Just found this gem. I'm now living in China where I've been teaching for 15 years, I was born and raised in low Fell on the corner of Bell vue Bank 474. Back then it was called 'spade rake', my Dad changed the name to 'The Great House'. Every shop, building, school, absolutely everything in this video, I have entered. I used to build tree houses and reace go karts in Whinney House hospital, the next building next to wors. Colin thanks so much for this. I turn 54 in two days and I was just having a look around youtube. Any kids who went to Dean Well avenue kindergarten, Kells Lane infants and juniors, Breckenbeds (which was great) and Heathfield, kindly tell them Clive Caulker was asking after them. xx

Quite a lot of them are still there. I'd say it's maybe 50/50. Even some of the very old looking buildings such as at 1:53. If you google "Newcastle The Cooperage" it should come up. The buildings at 0:31 are still all there too. Google "Red House Newcastle. The circular structure at 0:50 is still there. It was a public toilets back then but now it's a wine bar. But the building behind it has now been replaced by a modern building. It was the old town hall and now it's a food place and offices. Building at 0:59 is gone. There are bus stops there now. Until recently there was a tiny park and seating area in it's footprint but it recently got made into a beer garden for the pub behind it over the road. All the buildings at 3:37 were there until about 3 years ago when they got pulled down to make weay for a new office building.
