Nemophila are amazing, and I was one of the lucky few who got to see them live at their only US show so far at Whisky A Go Go in LA. They are powerful and cute and change their style a lot from song to song, very diverse. Check out their song Adabana, released recently.
Another great, all girl Japanese metal band you need to see is Hanabie and their song We Love Sweets. The contrasts in it are pretty mind blowing. It's a jaw dropper.

Yeah, Adabana is a good follow up for this to kind of see their different styles. They play a lot of different styles of metal and harfd rock but they do have their own sound . You know when you hear a Nemophila song. If you want to hear them doing just some old school thrash check out Oiran. It was one of their first songs and the one I fell in love with this band from.

@@BenC460 Consider the "Oiran" suggestion seconded for the thrash factor, but if MMR isn't into the rough vocals it probably won't be his favorite. Fair warning. It's one of my favorites too though. I'd suggest a double header, comparing the live version with the live studio version. They're both great for different reasons.

  • @hiawatha.g
    @hiawatha.g Před rokem +5

This is one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and are blowing up fast. As you can see from the gang vocals, they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.” They have called their style "fluffy hell".
Nemophil-a (NOT “Nemophil-i-a) were founded in 2019. They are a supergroup composed of:
    Mary's Blood guitarist Saki
    ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu
ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X)
    ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and
ex-Soramimi drummer Muratatam (also does other projects)
Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized Mayu with some help from Saki. They started off posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. Then they began posting originals, starting with “Oiran” czcams.com/video/eyb2NtPwcxc/video.html
The viral reaction seems to have convinced them they were onto something potentially big, so they’ve been putting a lot more work into it, including some successful live-streams and an appearance at the annual Japanese female rock festival NAONのYAON. They tend toward hard and heavy, but also do ballads and some pop covers. Drummer Murata Tamu took time off to give birth to her son, and on her return, the rest of the bandmembers gave her a welcome back that resulted in an extremely moving moment captured on live stream: “Life” czcams.com/video/HFnEYhbEAqg/video.html
After Oiran, others to check include “Raitei”, which means “Thunder” in Japanese, and yes, they bring the thunder: czcams.com/video/lh-dVLKP314/video.html
Saki is the only one who had been with a breakout band before (Mary’s Blood); Hazuki and Murata-tamu are also considered elite musicians and have worked with a lot of other top artists. Hara-san is the youngest but is clearly a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. And of course Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a one of the world’s best metal vocalists.
    Nemophila’s youtube channel: czcams.com/channels/voAeGZoC8giXP59NOZABIA.htmlvideos
If you haven’t already, another band frequently suggested after Nemophila is Hanabie. Try “We Love Sweets” czcams.com/video/G18yyvPCiTM/video.html

I will never get sick of watching musicians watch Mayu switch from her scream to clean vocals. I'm glad you started with this song it should always be the first for new reactors. :)
This is my second favorite band behind Band-Maid. Nemophila is amazing. If you want another example of this kind of song, go with Revive. If you want to hear something a bit closer to hard rock, go with Raitei, if you want to see Mayu rap Nu-Metal go with STYLE, and if you want what is likely their best song to date, go with ADABANA.

This is my favorite track of 2021 and I don't think it's ever going to get old, the message, the delivery - it's about as perfect as it gets from girl's J-Metal. It shouldn't be a surprise, every part of the team is world class - Nemophila is a super group and this is just one example of what they can offer. If you want to go one more step into the extreme you have Hanabie - Hanabie = Harajukucore = 🔥🔥🔥🔥 and that's where you're going to see a more extreme blending of modern and classic styles. I don't want to detract from Nemophila who you should explore more of, but mostly just enjoy from here on out - it's already pretty clear you're a fan!

NEMOPHILA are an incredibly versatile band comprising five seasoned pros. If you like the Thrash, then their demo of OIRAN (filmed in their little studio) is the one you want to listen to next (save the live one for later). Then for something completely different, listen to MONSTERS, which has their best breakdown, and LIFE, a ballad that makes listeners cry, even if they don’t understand Japanese. Finally listen to their cover of ONE NIGHT CARNIVAL, by another Japanese band called KISHIDAN. Follow this sequence and you will be happy.
“Nemophila” (a Latin word?) is the name of a five-petaled blue flower, reflecting the composition of the band.
SAKI has been the lead guitarist of MARY’S BLOOD for many years. Check out two older Thrash songs: MARIONETTE and CRIME AND PUNISHMENT

The Japanese scene is just incredible right now. There are so many killer bands over there. The rabbit hole is wide and deep. Enjoy the journey! Edited to add: The pronunciation is "Neh Mo Feela" Not Nee Mo Filia since there is no i after the L. The first e is like the e in the English word 'bed', the eh sound, not the hard e like in 'seen'.

I am glad you enjoyed Nemophila. I actually prefer the video of their live performance of Dissension because I think Mayu's screams are more impressive live without the overproduction of a music video. I think the next song you should experience is their live performance of Oiran, which is their first original song. It has the added benefit of hearing how Nemophila is pronounced since they are introduced by the great Keiko Terada (I will tell you more about her when you do the reaction).
    Oiran (live) - czcams.com/video/19VQ9tkWksQ/video.html
As others have said, Nemophila formed in the summer of 2019. A young vocalist named Mayu was seeking to put together some musicians so she could really figure out the types of songs she can sing. She had a friend named Haraguchisan who played bass but she needed a drummer and guitarist. Both of them had been in short-lived minor bands that had recently ended. Mayu decided to approach a well respected guitarist for help. That guitarist was Saki who at the time was the founder of a well known all female band called Mary's Blood. Unknown to Mayu, Mary's Blood was on its last legs so Saki had the time and desire to do something new for awhile. Mayu suddenly had one of the best guitarists in Japan. Even better Saki brought in Tamu Murata, a great session drummer, and Hazuki, a guitarist who had been in a short-lived but well-known all female band called Disqualia. Nemophila has been called a supergroup because of these three, especially Saki. The five clicked so well that they decided to turn themselves into a permanent band. Mayu went from just looking for musicians for a temporary project to being part of a band with some of the most talented musicians in Japan. As for Mary's Blood, their most recent album was not a hit and the band, after a few farewell performances, formally ended in April. Saki can now fully concentrate on Nemophila. With Saki piloting the ship, Nemophila will continue to do very, very well.
You have now heard 3 of my top 4 Japanese bands - Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila. The fourth is a 3 piece band called Asterism. All four bands have amazing guitarists but Asterism might have the best even though she is by far the youngest. Their is a video of them playing their song Dawn in a small club that looks like it was filmed by a fan with a phone. The sound, however, is surprisingly good. This young guitarist, who goes by Hal-Ca, gives one of the best guitar performances that I have seen in many years. You really need to see her in action.

As a guitarist, you've come across Nemophila (I recommend Revive, A ray of Light, and the amazing Adabana from the sharp tracks). 2 excellent guitarists. Saki (Killer guitar) is more honored and with more achievements. It is considered by many to be the best Japanese guitarist. She is sometimes called the empress, the queen of the shredd .. Very fast, with great achievements and very versatile. Most of her work is still Mary's Blood. Mary's Blood is definitely best to listen to live performances. The girls got along incredibly well and achieved a very high level of playing. Apart from Saki, the other girls were also of a very high standard. Mari on drums is a machine. Extremely durable and can play very quickly. Rio's bass had a huge sound, often growling. He reminds me of my favorite bassist (Balacky from Voivod). I guess most Lovebites fans wanted Rio to replace Miho (she left and Rio was free because Mary's Blood suspended indefinitely).
I recommend: Bloody Birth Day czcams.com/video/KODPK5CSgU0/video.html And maybe their most famous piece (no good Live):

I apologize for being late and not reading all of the comments before posting, but here is a very short synopsis. This group was formed in 2019, BUT they all had successful careers in other bands before this. In short they are; if you’re American, a Dream Team of musicians in our vocabulary. To be honest, I didn’t overly appreciate their cover songs as I prefer to listen to the original. However, this group’s latest original music is next level Thrash. I currently love and listen to this group more than my of my favorites. Perhaps that’s because I’ve listened to all of the songs from my other favorite groups repeatedly, but this group simply rocks! Looking forward to After Shock in October. Hope to see you there.

Best band going, full stop. Only three years old, but on a rocket trajectory to blowing up globally. Technical chops in abundance, buckets of chemistry and charisma, and are even better live than in the studio (I saw them in LA at Whisky aa Go Go on July1, and they were _brilliant_). This band is _versatile_, too: from metalcore/fry scream intensity like this one to emotional story tracks like "Life."
Every member is very technically accomplished, from guitarists Saki and Hazuki, to the brilliant rhythm section (Haraguchi-san on bass, Tamu Murata on drums). Tamu is an in-demand session xdcruimmer in Japan, and has high-end fusion chops (she's done videos with Senri Kawaguchi and held her own..nuff said!). Mayu can convert people to this singing style single-handedly. Her smoky "clean" voice is one hell of an instrument, too.

If you like to hear a little more growling girls, you could check interesting Japanese "half-idol" band "Broken by the Scream". Basically 3 man play the drums, bass and guitar (very good!) and 4 girls singing! Two of them "clean section" with clean voices and 2 of them "death metal section" with one high-pitch screamer and one low growling young lady. Sound fantastic crazy, but somehow very good! Their most known song (you could react to that if you didn't hear) is "Sayonara Birthday", but you can find all kind of songs (some of them live) on their channel. Also, you could some of the old songs (I recommend "Light in the Dark" and "Ignite") by Japanese all girl band "Bridear", Initially some growling parts were singing by guitarist Misa (not that one from Band Maid, but another one!), and when she left the band, bass player "take charge" of growling! Thatćs show dedication of those Japanese young musicians! Also, you could check some songs from Swiss band "Ad Infinitum" (I recommend "Marching on Versailles") where you can hear experienced growler Melissa Bony. She colaborated with many other bands, too, but very good song is also "Jenny of the Old Stones" which she did with her side-project band "The Dark Side of The Moon"... I see that you already "cover" Tatiana from "Jinjer", but there are many ladies who know how to growl, and growl good, for sure!

Miyu's voice falls under the core label, she's definitely doing a cross between a metalcore growl and a black metal pig squeal.

I've heard of this band. Don't know much of their discography. Talented musicians, but not into harsh/growl vocals. They have original music and do a lot of covers. Since you like the female Japanese scene check out a couple other bands. Aldious - Spirit Black (czcams.com/video/me9XZsQAncI/video.html) and Mary's Blood - Marionette (czcams.com/video/MLM2unV0kwU/video.html)

NEH-mo- fill-A. No finding Nemo in this name. It’s the scientific name for a 5 petal blue and white flower. Each petal represents each member. If you watch their OIRAN live at NAON YAON 2021 you’ll see Japanese legend Keiko introduces them in the correct manner.🤘🎸💙🇯🇵Enjoy this world class band. The drummer Murata Tamu has her own YT channel worth checking out too. Some great X-Japan covers on there.👌🔥💕

Oh... and another band for your consideration is a prog-metal band from Indonesia called Voice of Baceprot. 3 young ladies that are fzcking amazing and have been endorsed by Tom Morello no less. They're a 3 piece as well.... :)

Being a huge Band Maid fan......not typically a metal fan.....but these girls have changed my mind !!!!! Did some research and these girls are made up of an all star cast of female Japanese metal musicians. The two guitarist are very well known in Japan. Check out Herman Li's (Dragon Force) interview with Saki (guitarist on far right) and you will fall in love !!!! The girl shreds and extremely sexy !!!!!

If you want 'ridiculously metal' and don't know it yet, try 'Babymetal Death Legend 1997' (by Babymetal). One of the craziest and most metal performances I have ever seen.

Yeah, just like Lovebites, or Band-Maid. You will never hear this in the states on any radio station. I'm just north and west of Chicago and have access to a lot of metal and alternative radio, this won't get played, period. I doubt any of it will ever get played.
I like the track Sorai live(It is an overlay on a couple shows like Jinjer Teacher Teacher), but still great, give that one a shot.

Thank you for paying attention to Japan's Girls Heavy Metal Band ⚡🎸♫
Reactions vary from person to person, but it's unseemly to stop mid-performance and react, so I'd like them to stop doing that. You can react while playing the music.
Japan's Girls Heavy Metal Band got its start from SHOW-YA in the 1980s!
They are still active and are even more powerful now that they have reached their 60s!
    My top 3 recommendations are
    1 NEMOPILA
(Live vr OIRAN . RISE . Revive etc)
I like that I never get tired of listening to it ♫
    2LOVEBITES
(Live vr SwanSong . We are the . Horry War etc)
The technique is amazing, but it gets boring!
    3SHOW-YA
(Live VR Genkai LOVERS .FARY .Watashi wa Arashi etc)
    I respect him⚡🎸♫
    For new comers
Hagane .Paradoxxetc .East of Eden etc.
Also BRIDER .Gacharic Spin .Aldious .etc.
BabyMetal in me.BandMaid is off the list!
In Japan, there are still many hidden girls out there!
Please find it, you reaction CZcamsrs, and upload an introduction video 😊♫
Thank you for the fun video ⚡🎸♫
