Nemophila and Hanabie (pronounced Hah nah bee eh) are my 2 favorite Metal bands out of Japan! Hanabie are 4 young ladies who will blast your socks off with their heaviness and creativity. Nemophila contains all of my Aces, though!😄💪🏻🤘🏻

This is one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and are blowing up fast. As you can see from the gang vocals, they don't take themselves too seriously-Hazuki even winks. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.”
Nemophila were founded in 2019. They are a supergroup composed of:
Mary's Blood guitarist Saki
ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu
ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X)
ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and
ex-Soramimi drummer Muratatam (also does other projects)
Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized Mayu with some help from Saki. They started off posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. Then they began posting originals, starting with “Oiran” czcams.com/video/eyb2NtPwcxc/video.html
The viral reaction seems to have convinced them they were onto something potentially big, so they’ve been putting a lot more work into it, including some successful live-streams and an appearance at the annual Japanese female rock festival NAONのYAON. They tend toward hard and heavy, but also do ballads and some pop covers. Drummer Murata Tamu took time off to give birth to her son, and on her return, the rest of the bandmembers gave her a welcome back that resulted in an extremely moving moment captured on live stream: “Life” czcams.com/video/HFnEYhbEAqg/video.html

Saki is the only one who had been with a breakout band before (Mary’s Blood); Hazuki and Murata-tamu are also considered elite musicians and have worked with a lot of other top artists. Hara-san is the youngest but is clearly a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. And of course Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a one of the world’s best metal vocalists.

If you want to see a very different side of Nemophila, I recommend their song called Life. They recorded the video shortly after their drummer, Tamu Murata, returned to the band after having a baby daughter. They also were celebrating the birthday of Hazuki, one of the guitarists.

2:05 Oh my... Japan has been a heaven's country for hard rock metal band live for western bands for decades. Hard rock / metal has been very liked there and very active once they encountered that music style, and now, they are probably surpassing most of the current western metal talents as they have an insane amount of great musicians there. the only problem we have is that they make music for their country first, and if it goes outside, fine, if not, they can live with that. So many are not even actively promoting nor targetting their music to the western audience.
Now in a bulk, you could go and react to BabyMetal (very known and traditional react clickbait), Unlucky Morpheous, Wagakki Band, Bridear, Trident, and many more I like less, and yet very talented bands.

I am inclined to say that you have opened Pandora's box, because what's been coming out of Japan in terms of rock and metal for some time now makes most bands from America and Europe look pretty old in so many ways, if you ask me. There are exceptions, of course. But overall... :)
Lately there is sometimes talk about something like the holy trinity, of which you have already got to know two with Nemophila and Lovebites. The third group is called 'Band-Maid' and as an introduction I recommend their song "Domination" (Official Live) if you want to continue your Japan journey.
_"America invented rock, England improved it, and now, Japan has perfected it."_ There will certainly be discussions about the first two points, but there is absolutely no doubt about the third, imho. 😏🤘🏻

Be careful, once anyone hears BAND-MAID, they'll suddenly lose many many hours falling into that rabbit hole. And even though Nemophila, Trident etc. and many J rock bands are amazing, once someone hears B-M, they'll dominate the playlist.

No pause on the solos. Impressive restraint! Mayu is the most dynamic vocalist in rock/metal today. Keep it up Shea, you’ve only just begun. Plenty of quality suggestions in the comments already.

Enjoy the rabbit hole you are digging! It's not often I put every song I hear by a band on to my playlist, but these ladies are the real deal!
These are the one of the best. Band-maid are also magnificent and even more varied, older and more successful. A trio with two guys and a woman called sokoninaru are also brilliant, very indy and edgy with elements of jazz and math and incredible harmonies.

When I want to listen to headbanging metal, NEMOPHILA is my go to band. Another all female Japanese band that you need to check out next is BAND-MAID. Although, they are more Hard Rock than Metal, they do have elements of metal in their music. Their live performances are extremely good. Just a few suggestions, "Domination" Live, "Play" Live, "Freedom" Live and "Onset" Live. Great reaction 🤘

Japan is the #2 music market in the world. With a long history of awesome rock/metal bands, example X Japan, Show Ya and Luna Sea of the 80's and 90's. The international breakout dates from Babymetal's performance at the 2014 Sonisphere followed by Band Maid's breakout with their MV "Thrill".
I suggest for your next Nemophila reaction "Monsters" with Mayu using a very different voice.
Nemophila are the best. Just saw them live at the Whisky in LA, and they absolutely brought the house down. First two songs of the show are on their channel...

This is my second favorite Nemophila song. Revive is still #1. But my favorite heavy metal group is Lovebites. Edge Of The World and Swan Song are my favorites. They are better live. Hola, muy buena reacción, esta banda siempre causa estas gratas reacciones, yo las sigo desde sus inicios, mi intuición me decía que no eran cualquier banda y no me equivoqué, la diferencia y distinción es la cantante Mayu, una verdadera prodigiosa del metal, es inigualable, fuera de serie !, otra es la baterista Tamu-San, tremenda fantástica y el motor de Nemophila, mi favorita de la banda definitivamente ,también las guitarristas y bajista que son de lo más top de Japón, muchas gracias por presentar a Nemophila, espero que no sea la última porque con esta banda tiene mucho pàn por rebanar ya que también son la reina de los covers alucinantes! I don't think it's as big of an "if" as you think, got to keep in mind that they are a super band and likely have a good marketing team. They are already exploding after only 3 years of being together.

Bands generally in Japan will cross genres. For all women bands my guess is that you will get most recommendations for Band-Maid, who are hard rock fused with funk, metal and a pop sensibility. There are several women only groups playing hard, but also some mixed gender and all male groups. Mixed genre/gender metal band Maximum the Hormone have been going for 22 years and still sound fresh. 88KASYO Junrei produce off the wall Math Metal masterpiece, and if you want impossible change ups and complexity try tricot and Sokinanaru

Nemophila aren’t limited to just this style of metal. They have other soft songs (Life), other hard and crazy songs (Oiran) and some stuff in between (Revive, Raitei) - all of which is awesome.
If you genuinely enjoy this kind of thing then there are two more “must see” bands; Aldious, the OGs and Hanabie the Harajukucore newbies. There’s plenty more bands in between, probably more than 100, but they are probably the two most relevant after Band-Maid, LOVEBITES and Nemophila.

In the olden days the best music came from America. It was like that for decades! Back then you could afford not to know the musicians of other countries. Almost all music that comes out of America these days is awful shit. I don't mean it in a bad way, but Americans have come across to me more and more as narrow-minded ignoramuses in recent years. We are not all narrow-minded ignoramuses. Band-Maid sold out almost all their US fall tour shows within a week and all are sold out now except for the New Jersey show which was added and is a large venue. The added Chicago show sold out very quickly. Resale for tickets are now at least triple the original price. I will be at the Dallas show on October 21 and can't wait

That's why you US fans have to work on moving forward in the states with Band Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila. Somehow you have to try and get Band Maid on the US late night shows: Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Conan, Ellen etc. Man that would be awesome if you guys could do that...✌
