I suspect part of why ‘moderate drinking’ (a glass or two of wine for example) appears in some cases to be beneficial may say more about *people who can consume things in moderation* more than about what they are consuming. In other words, if you’re the kind of person that can have just one glass of wine with dinner, you’re probably pretty good about doing things in moderation (maybe more self control, less addictive tendencies, better understanding or concern for consequences of over indulgence, etc) and that may have so much of a benefit that it outweighs a negative impact of things like alcohol.
Totally agree and well said.
good point
I agree. Very good point.
Your final point on sleep disruption is reason enough to quit drinking.
the resting heart rate/sleep disruption from 1 vs 2-3 drinks ive definitely noticed .
There was a study in mice where they were given huge amounts of resveratrol with beneficial effects on longevity. I reverse calculated the mg/kg amount to humans and the resveratrol content in red wine. It cam to around 60 glasses per day every day. Good luck with that

Please do a program on The effect of cannabis use on health
Coming from à French family with people who live long lives on my father´s side (including people who marry into our family, so différent genes), I´m going to try to follow in their footsteps. Only two had/have health problems: my grandfather and my father who were/are sugar addicts and who developped diabètes, parkinson and other deseases. My great uncle and great aunt were still gardening in their 90's and cooking with their own fruits and vegetables.
Love the info. Thanks
Fantastic talk
2:50ALT should be below 20 as normal. ( When liver cells are damaged, they release ALT into the bloodstream. An ALT test measures the amount of ALT in the blood.) ALT =alanine aminotransferase
Nice one.
Big fan of Pinot noir, and I have to say that sleep affect Dr Mentions is spot on - I have repeatedly confirmed that same thing above 300ml of wine. 10bpm more.
Red wine is terrible and you know it.
The clase Azul bottle is beautiful lol makes me want to drink again but I've been off alcohol over 2 years now. Great points on the inefficiency of drinking for resveretrol
The Clasa Azul bottle is indeed beautiful and tastes great, but at $200~ a bottle it's pretty easy for me to avoid lol
thanks this is awesome
Thank you.
Isn’t AST and ALT also a blood marker that can become elevated with exercise? Thanks.
Dr. You said you like Belgian beer...perhaps it's Gulden Draak 9000 Quad...absolutely delicious.
What about elevated aldosterone with ethanol? Yes, to negative effects on sleep
Belgian beer, that narrows it down.
My favourite beer is the beer I make myself and I started making it in an attempt to quality control my alcohol consumption.
He's referring to one of two beers that are famous in the beer world and very difficult to get hold of outside of Belgium. The Cantillon Lambic and Westvleteren 12.
@@SliszMeisterGeneral Yeah, somebody tell Peter about St. Bernardus Abt 12! Just age it a couple years to round out the edges.
My favourite is hands down Leffe Blonde. Not the easiest to obtain in Northern Canada or in the Dutch Antilles.
@@SliszMeisterGeneral I've only had the Cantillon Lambic once and it's been a pain to find ever since.
re: French paradox? compared to Americans, their food/produce is better quality, their portions are smaller, they walk more, and they have labour laws that are more favourable to stress conditions.
remember: st. bernardus abt 12 is 99% 'the beer that cannot be mentioned' (it's not much of a secret tbh ;) )
I have the same thing when I drink a bit in terms of poor sleep metrics. I sleep an hour more, with much higher HRV, lower HR, and longer deep sleep and rem sleep cycles if I don't drink. Have not tested one drink enough to know. my results are from 2 or 3 drinks even when I eat early which I normally do.
For those of you wondering which Belgian beer he might be talking about, it's probably Westvleteren 12. It's been declared 'best beer in world' multiple times and indeed, it's very hard to acquire if you don't physically go to Westvleteren and pick it up. Luckily, you can try out Sint Bernardus Abt 12, which is cheaper, much easier to get your hands on and tastes almost identical.
Actually as someone who lives in belgium, they are not so similar if tasted together. The wife's tale is that Sint Bernardus actually uses the old recipe of West Vleteren 12,. Either way, I hope that's not the beer, as it's a bit overhyped, Mr Attia, and you telling on the podcast your fav beer wouldn't make it much harder to acquire abroad tbh, it's just expensive. Try something like Le Fort Donker, which is my fav beer taste wise, no hype.
@@svetozarhristov2373 Interesting to hear, I never tasted them together so I wont argue. Indeed they use more or less the same recipe, but with a different strain of yeast. I agree it's overhyped because of its scarcity, but that doesn't take away from it being a great trappist. Personally I'm a sucker for Rochefort 10.
It's made with sugar and candy syrup and it's $50 a bottle. 🤣🤣👌
i quite literally have to know the beer that he drinks
Busch light but only the camouflage can that’s why it’s hard to find
Moderate alcohol consumption raises HDL, by increasing the transport rate of Apolioproteins A-1 and A-2... The only thing that is important with HDL is the functionality, not the HDLc
Does that mean the body makes more HDL or HDL stops doing its job?
Cantillon?
OH
Aficionado
😜

If im having some (which is rare )
its good stuff.
Empty calories etc
Normal person: "What do you want to drink?"
Peter: "It MUST be consumed neat. No ice. No lime. No nothing."
ironically that's a really shit tequila
@@Rethanos Is it though? Makes me regret all the Clio wine I just bought for $60 a bottle. lolz
Pretty sure it's bud light.
Hmm nothing about cancer risk of any other organs?
If your light skin Red hair 👩🦰 freckled. Drink all you want. All others. 2 drink a yr limit 😂
Anyone Know how to spell out the tequila he mentioned?
clase azul reposado...and it is great!
I drink because it relaxes me, it takes the edge off. I exercise I try and eat right, but after a while I get anxious and I get a 12 pack
“...unless the next man is Mel Gibson.”
Cutting out alcohol is changing my life❤❤❤try 30 days sober and just really see gow you feel! ❤
You know, I thought I would feel so much better, but I didn't! Now I was only drinking a couple beers each (and every) night, not anything hard and not to extremes. I quit for 46 days straight, and I can't say I felt better or had any weight loss or even had things like slight edema in my feet go away. I don't know why.
Bruh wouldn't share his favorite beer. 🤣🤣
I don't care how good the alcohol is, been there done it, and don't want it anymore. I used to be a pretentious wine, beer, and spirits snob because I sold the stuff and liked it. I never became a serious alcoholic but I could see the dangers it had and I could feel the effects the day after. One glass a day? Get serious. I drank maybe three for a buzz. Drinking also got expensive. Those bottles of wine in the garage add up to at least 2000 dollars per year. Since I don't earn a lot of money I decided I need to save a bit for my future and my health. I do not believe alcohol is health food.
Sugar is another evil and addictive and it ruins your health, teeth, maybe brain with type three diabetes being Alzheimers.
I am saying you will feel better eliminating fermented sugar and regular sugar from your diet. Carbs are also fast burning and low in nutrients. Better off eating fatty cuts of meat and vegetables sautéed in butter. You feel better and you aren't hungry every 2-3 hours like most people are on pasta diets
Forealz! People need to reflect on how they feel after a meal. Pasta vs steak & eggs is a huge difference.
duvel beer ?
I think there's more to the alcohol story than we know. Humans have been drinking alcohol since the beginning of recorded history. Cross cultural phenomena. Why?
Our scientific ability to examine, dissect, quantify, identify, etc this phenomenon is not sophisticated enough.
Alcohol is undoubtedly gotten stronger since the beginning of time and we are living in a world where it’s getting harder to be a functioning alcoholic.
As Chris said before me, the alcohol we drink today is far stronger than what was made in ancient times. The primary function of alcoholic drink before the Renaissance was to sterilize non-potable water to provide a non-fatal source of hydration in the face of human agricultural/sewage runoff. “Western civilization” as we call it was born out of the places where humans could store grains and fermenting grapes for the sake of making beer and wine. As such, it no longer serves its original intended purpose, and at the current ethanol concentrations, there’s little to suggest that alcoholic beverages are good for you.
All studies that try to link moderate alcohol consumption with greater life expectancy only have correlative links, nothing causative. And on top of that they fail to exclude the largest confounding factor, which is that of course people who can afford to enjoy wine every now and then are generally more wealthy than the non-drinking cohort, so there’s your added life expectancy right there…
There’s enormous social pressure to drink. It is popular around the world because over half of the world is addicted to alcohol, and there is a phenomenal amount of money involved in maintaining and feeding that addiction.
Humans have done stupid shit since the dawn of timr, so we should copy that?
A drinker after my own heart
If you wanna live top shelf, imbibing top shelf can give you an assist. Thx P
So your favorite beer is some type of lambic, presumably something from drie fonteinen or Cantillon then I assume, considering how hard those are to get. Could be wrong but the Belgium plug kind of gave it away
I’m guessing Spitfire. British, as tasty as it is hard to find.
WHAT'S THE BEER!!!?
Alcohol also impacts bone marrow and the production of red blood cells therein.
then why do most 100 year olds generally drink?
I quit last week, and alcohol is unattractive.
Don’t drink much either, but saying it’s “Unattractive” a week after quitting is laughable. You’ve abstained for a week and now high and mighty. Come back in 2 years
@@tblightningbolt8902 that’s the way to suppose someone quitting an addiction lol
The older you get the more alcohol effects you.
👍
As with anything....in moderation you are ok.
Secret. A bunch of older (60-80) women I know don't and never did drink alcohol except maybe at holiday. Guess what? Their husbands had the accepted 1-2 beer or wine per night for decades. As early as age 62 guys just cannot quite keep up with their wives mentally, in planning, thinking, emotional control, even when they are sober. It's sad. The women end up bossing the guys around, trying to keep them out of harms way. I must admit, the guys do ba have stupidly. They cannot remember they've created passwords or they repeat things. Has not anyone heard of alcohol induced dementia? It's a real thing. Not enough at first to institutionalize a person but who wants to,be the dummy in the whole bunch who cannot keep up? Pitiful. Fooled by an industry. Good for you Peter for calling it,the poison it is. Just because it's legal and advertised as healthy doesn't make it so.
@@AmishSicario Not. My mother is an 16-18 pack of beer a day alcoholic since basically her 20s. She's in her 50s now and cannot remember practically anything. Things she ate yesterday, things she said a week ago, moments that happened years ago. If she does "remember" something, it's usually a distorted almost untrue remembering of the event. Horrible working and short term memory, pitiful long term memory. It has destroyed her brain and thinking. Minute basic things stress her out beyond any normal person. She does nothing day to day. Goes to work, after work goes to the store to get beer, goes home and watches netflix all night. Doesn't really remember what she watched on netflix. She has to REWATCH EPISODES. Same thing, every day.
Oooåoo
Just use cannabis.
Resveratrol is useless, could even sunt your health progress.. Even D.Sinclair starts backpedalling, althogh he has stakes in resv.business
