Biz, most often I scream at my TV in opposition of your opinions and analysis. However, you are spot on here and what a class act this was talking about this organization. I have new found respect for you today.
As far as hockey in the desert, it belongs there as much as it does in South Florida for my Panthers. And for that matter, as much as it belongs in Toronto or Montreal. If we are all true fans of the game, we want to see the fan base grow and flourish. I hope Arizona one day gets another team. Moreover, I hope the NHL holds owners more accountable in the future. What happened in Arizona and Atlanta a few years back was due to poor ownership and at the cost of players and fans alike.

Cut the crap. It's a GREAT day for hockey. Should've been done a decade ago at least. They couldn't fill a 5000 seat rink - with a winning record until game 40! Many nights, even against Canadian teams that brought the snowbirds out, they barely got 3000 fans.
If the fans were so loyal and legion, why did the team move twice before ending up in that rink where they played second fiddle to the college team? Thank God for the voters of Tempe, the mayor of Scottsdale and Smith for finally, FINALLY, putting an end to the most embarrassing, Mickey Mouse league stubbornness and ongoing waste of other owners' money to keep a team on life support in the history of pro sports.

Lightning fan here. I agree with Biz Nasty about hockey belonging in the desert. What's now the Footprint Center is centrally located, but it doesn't work for hockey due to being built with only basketball in mind. What's now Desert Diamond Arena is hockey-friendly, but it's not even close to being centrally located. I'm not crazy about Alex Meruelo running the new Coyotes, but I strongly believe that a franchise in the Valley of the Sun can become viable with an NHL-friendly venue that's where the hockey fans live (mainly from Phoenix on east).

@@kevinkeith3530 It's not quite as cut and dry as you're making it out to be. With such a tiny arena, the only way the Coyotes were gonna be able to make money was with high ticket prices. The Coyotes had to contribute a certain amount of money to revenue sharing, so that system helped contribute to the ticket prices being what they were at the Mullet. Also, the Coyotes weren't even close to the playoffs in the regular season's final weeks and not many people are gonna pay premium prices for a bad product. The attendance numbers would've been much better even with that kind of team in a proper arena anywhere in the Valley from Phoenix on east.

As a rangers fan I rarely agree with biz but yes it's great to see the passionate fans in arizona get praise, there might not be many of them but they stuck by a mediocre franchise through its ups and downs and didnt abandon them. It seems like a great move to move to another area but it sucks that those who I just mentioned that didnt abandon such a mediocre franchise even at its worst but the franchise abandoned them. I can understand how that would be a slap in the face. On the other hand it was clear it wasnt going to work out there was just too many factors for a while that was making this inevitable. Still sucks for those who supported the franchise.

You are a fan favorite because of your honesty passion! The league needs to do more to support franchises in new markets. It always sux when a team leaves town. I remember when the Sonics left Seattle and ownership lied about not selling it to an "out of towner". The owner was behind a legislative bill that would have given an extra $90 million in taxpayers monies for an arena remodel spent on parking and consession's whole only adding 600 fan seats. When the bill was voted down the owner got mad and started lying to the city. When I hear Paul speak those feeling come back. Sorry for you Arizona..

As a Tampa fan I can’t say I feel y’all’s pain, but what I will say is that this can happen to any franchise and something needs to be done to protect the communities that these clubs represent, it just simply isn’t acceptable in my eyes to dangle the carrot in front of the horse for decades and then just all the team to relocate like you’re moving a franchise store. People make careers off these teams, they make lifetime friends, family, and memories. To just rip that all away because an owner could make a profit is gross and quite frankly should not be allowed to happen. Lastly for the fans saying things like ‘Arizona isn’t a hockey market, or they donut deserve a team they’re fair-weather fans’ that’s all well and good until your stadium is no longer safe, or the owner of the building decides it would be better financially to build condos, or any other number of reasons why a team would be forced to move out as unlikely as it is. The reality is no fan base should have to go through this.
