    A very enjoyable informative video on the whole restoration and plating of the bumper and most importantly no annoying so called music found in some of your other videos.
    It is not a rock concert or a pub,just leave out all the annoying so called music in future.Thanks.

    Just love your videos, so detailed ...at around 12:00 there is a guy in the background linishing or polishing a motorcycle exhaust. I didn't realise you do these, as a lot of shops won't touch them due to bath contamination or do a 'drain test' by filling with water and if the water doesn't drain fast enough they won't take the job on.

    Come on this is art! What a transformation! So much work involved you wouldn’t belief it unless I saw that.
    Wish I knew about you last summer, I had some classic two stroke Yamaha RD original exhaust pipes done in Birmingham, I’m still bothered by the finish.
    Well done you lot for such fabulous work.

    I hope you pay the metal polisher well for all his hard work. How many time did he have to go over that bumper before he got the finish he got before plating.
    Also is the acid dip after the electric dip sulphuric because I think at one stage you said it was like vinegar?

      It is for removing any greasy deposits from the polishing compounds. Just to clean it and aid inspection for marks as you can't see them through smears.

    Incredible amount of work, my respect! One question: as you always say, any detail should be cleaned thoroughly before plating to achieve best adhesion to surface. I can see the bumper was washed manually by rag on it's external side only, while the internal surface was only rinsed by solution without washing by hands. Is it enough? The back side of bumper shouldn't shine as brilliant definitely, however good adhesion is important here as well for weather protection.

    I’m impressed at this process. I always wondered how old rusty pitted chrome pieces were restored. Plus the amount of work that goes into this piece is staggering.
    I have two questions: How many man hours went into this piece and how much would something like this cost to restore?

    The finish reflects the amount of work that went in to restoring it. I have to ask though, how much does this kind of work cost? Are we talking thousands here?

  • @MarkK01
    @MarkK01 Před rokem +1

    I find this very interesting. Do you need to leave a rough surface for the chrome to bite to or is it the smother the better? These guys have to be in good shape, I imagine some bumpers can get real heavy like a Cadillac bumper.

  • @cyberhornthedragon

    I like it what u done so far I watch all your video ❤ but can u tell me what about inside the bumper I mean u don’t clean the small tiny rust hole. That’s not gonna be a problem after some time ?

    • @ChromeandCarRestoration
      @ChromeandCarRestoration  Před rokem +1

      All of the rust is removed. We can't polish or plate rusty parts. The inside of the bumper gets far less plating than the outside (low current density area). The inside of the bumper needs painting to protect it

    I notice you used lead solder on this to fix defects but other platers have always told me only to use high silver content silver-solder. Any tips please? you did once plate me some M/cycl parts that I had silver soldered some pits/tiny holes and they turned out brilliant but you stll hav to put quite a bit of heat in to get silver solder to flow.

    • @ChromeandCarRestoration
      @ChromeandCarRestoration  Před rokem

      Very good question. We only use lead when the the heat from silver solder would cause damage / problems. Silver solder is prefererable to lead. Brazing is preferable to silver solder. Welding is preferable to brazing. How it is repaired is dicatated by how much heat the part can take.
