this video is extremely helpful thank you so much. i have a question for my mom. she doesn’t have health insurance so she isn’t going to a doctor but she will in a month or two, she has an understanding of diabetes because her sister had it her whole life (she passed away, she struggled with drug addiction) my mom recently noticed she was crashing throughout the day and i encouraged her to get a blood sugar device and she is getting down to 55. i guess my question is even though she has never been diagnosed with diabetes and this is her first time ever showing symptoms, is this reversible? if she makes the change for a better diet until she has health insurance and can see a doctor will she be okay? are the glucose tablets only for people with diabetes? she thinks she has hypoglycemia. any words are appreciated, i don’t really understand any of this she’s just my best friend and i worry about her because she rarely lets me see her get vulnerable. she’s strong to a fault
I understand why you’re concerned. She’s your mom, best friend and it’s a complicated condition. There are different types of diabetes so she must get a diagnosis so that she can receive the proper treatment and education. She can start by measuring her blood sugars in the morning, right when she wakes up. If they’re elevated she should tell her doctor and probably try to see the doctor sooner. Mainly type 2 diabetes can initially (for some) be managed through diet and exercise (this is a great resource if you want to learn more diabetesstrong.com/category/diabetes/type-2/) but again, she needs a diagnosis so she knows what she’s dealing with, and it might not be diabetes. And finally, glucose tablets can be bought by anyone you don’t need a prescription. Hope this helps
It is scary how quick low blood sugar can hit and when it does you feel disoriented, weak, sweating and panic can strike quickly. You must consume sweets .
Thank you so much for the information did not know that about the chocolate. One of the things that I like to use is a glucose powder I can carry it in my purse put it into my mouth and hold it in my jaw while it absorbs into my system.
Awesome. I’ve tried the Glucose SOS brand and that’s pretty tasty. I just find the powder is hard to dose if I need less than 15 grams. But you’re right it really dissolves easily
My trick to not overeating is to not eat near the fridge/kitchen. At night I keep my glucose on my bedside table and if it’s during the day, I’ll go get a juice box and then leave the kitchen. But it’s tough
For me, how much I need depends on how much insulin I have in my body and what my activity level is. The general guideline is to start with 15 grams of fast-acting carbs and reaccess 15 minutes later if you need more
its not good to have sugar to deal with hypoglycemia, try to have apple with some proteins and fats. the more you have process sugar the more it will have swings.

Is it possible to solve this high blood sugar and low blood sugar and not needing to take insulin shots by runin on ketones? That way lack of puting sugar into cells by not creating enough insulin will take care of it itself coz there will be no sugar that needs to be adequately moved to ur body properly. Like eating more sugar when u diabetic has issue for procesing suggar since they produce less insulin then needed seems like reversed way of solving it hence its gonna need even more insulin shots. Isnt it?
I live with type 1 diabetes, so for me not taking insulin is not an option. Some people with diabetes can manage blood sugars through diet and exercise but many has to take insulin and with that there's a risk of low blood sugars.
