    VW ID3 - long term ownership review
    In todays video I am giving my long term ownership review of my Volkswagen ID3 1st Edition Pro Performance Max. In the video I will cover what I like about exterior, interior and the driving feel of the car. I also do cover things I don't like and issues I have had.
    Unfortunately we are parting away and I have a Mustang Mach-e SR RWD a Polestar 2 Performance and a Tesla Model 3 Performance on order. But have still not decided which one I will go for.
    Stay tuned

    I have been driving in a VW ID.3 Max (not first) for almost a year now. It fits my economy and I have not had any problems except for something that sat loosely on the taillight which VW fixed. In Denmark you get 5 years of full service on an ID.3. In practice, this means that the only expense you have is for the rubber the car runs on. Everything else incl. windshield wipers are included in the service agreement - "free". At the same time, an advantageous charging solution is included, which covers a large part of Scandinavia and down to Hamburg. I also drive long distances and it handles it fine. Thank you for the video, which also contained praise. :D

      thanks for the input! That sounds like a great deal and more or less have nothing to worry about.
      Funny thing is the cars with the 20" wheels have had tires from Bridgestone with only 5mm or so of thread new! Also they have a compound that is soft and is scrubbed of easily. So folks with under 10000km have had to replace them. Some have actually been able to get new tires on warranty and then chosen a different brand.

    Thanks for your ownership review. I note that along with other ID.3 (and other VW group vehicles) drivers that you are critical of the haptic controls but what I don’t know is whether these - particularly relating the the heating and ventilation controls, can be replaced by voice commands such as increase temperature to 20C. Are there any voice activated controls?

    Second hand EV prices here in Sweden are completely bonkers at the moment. I have an ID4 First edition with 35k kms on the clock. I got 25,000SEK more than what I paid for it when new! Factor in the climate bonus and I am 95,000SEK ahead on the deal. I have a new ID5 GTX coming in October and the price to change is just 42,000SEK. Insanely low cost of ownership.

      haha yes completely bonkers at the moment!
      Yeah we will see what the future will be like! I am not sure how I will do the Model 3 perf I have ordered will come in August-September. But will not get any bonus and the Polestar 2 perf will come in November but will get bonus. Also a similiary priced P2 Perf is 47k more now from when I ordered... But the range of the P2 is not that great to be honest... 1st world problems.....

    Actually, I don’t think it has the DCC. Should be a setting to set chassi stiffness in the individual driving mode setting if it had it. Something I didn’t realize was missing until after I bought the car. Still fairly happy with mine though. Somewhat concerned about the issues that many others seem to have, but when I bought it used, there wasn’t much else available in the same price range that would be better (Kia Eniro was already starting to feel old by modern EV standards, and a Tesla M3 is going to be much more expensive either used or new). Not an exciting car by any means, but very practical for my use case. Hoping that the new software versions will make it even better (for example better route planning with 3.0).

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  Před rokem +1

      My car actually had the sport package plus as it was called back then and that included the DCC chassi. In the custom mode I could set the chassi individually on mine.
      I tend do drive quite "actively" so I hope one of the ones I have incoming will satisfy my needs. But as you say as a car for daily activities it does it really well.

    At least with software 2.3, the thermal management of the battery is pretty awful. There is no battery pre-heating before departure, but OTOH, as soon as you do start driving, it tries to heat the battery to 13 deg C as fast as it can. This is guaranteed to give terrible consumption in cold weather on short journeys since a lot of battery capacity is used to heat the battery for no useful purpose. There's also no battery warming for rapid charging either, so max charge rates are poor, unless it's the height of summer or you've been thrashing it for the half hour before charging. I'm sure all this is fixable via software, but VW's woeful performance on software updates to date gives very little hope that they'll ever actually fix it. It's a pity since in many other ways the ID.3 is a nice car, but the software (and the infotainment) let it down badly.

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  Před rokem +1

      yeah I touched upon this in the video! As I mainly do shorter trips and during the winter period the consumption is really high due to the reason you are mentioning. Hence therefore the range is severely impacted.
      I think I read that in 3.0 they have a different curve to the battery heating while driving. Did not see anything with regards to if the battery is pre-heated while charging

    So you basically used the car as a city car? We need more reviews on long term usage in the 100.000s km range.
    VW quality has declined and it is there where things become interesting.
    Btw, did you consider going to gym by bike? xD

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  Před rokem +1

      Yes more or less as a city car. I have never driven any of my cars more than 40000kms so I am not a good measuring stick with regards to longer miles....
      I take the bike to the gym during the summer but when it is -14 degrees Celsius it is not a nice experience :D
