      Natalie Muskett it’s ok to take out a card to buy something big if you already have the money. It helps your credit to open an account then pay it off. It’s the revolving debt that gets you caught up.

    For years we lived on 1 monthly check so I've always done bills in one day. (Most are automatic, really!)
    I've been watching people do their budgets 1 check at a time, not 1 month at a time. We now have 4 checks a month with SS and other items. I've been trying to do each check separate. One is the first of the month, one is every other week. (I think we get three of those this month!) And the last is the 3rd Wednesday of the month. I'm going to do it your way. SSI much simpler!

    hey all, this is a VERY important tip for anybody making a budget:
    a quick note that 4 weeks does not equal a month (as much as companies that charge you every 4 weeks would want you to believe).
    there are 13 x 4 week cycles in the year
    but there's only 12 months
    just saying this because you mentioned you get groceries 2 x every 4 weeks, but you'll end up 160 over budget on groceries alone at the end of the year if you keep doing your calculations like that, because you will have spent 160 dollars on groceries 13 times (every four weeks) rather than 12 times (every month)
    it'll be the same for everything else you write down and plan on a monthly basis, but actually calculate it on a 4 week basis.
    just thought you'd know, as the more things you calculate on a 4 week basis, the more it throws your money off.
    the difference between 12 and 13 is like 8%ish, so that's how much more you will be spending (over the course of a year) on things than you budget for in the 4 week calculations

    Wow! Good for you! This is extremely organized and I commend you for the hard work you're putting into this! Just a question: have you looked into a personal loan/line of credit from a bank for your CC debts? Those interest rates are INSANE! I was in the same boat a few years back and consolidated my CC debts onto a loan and paid like 8%. I was able to pay it off way faster with significantly less interest (one large payment onto the loan every payday instead of the measly minimum CC payments that go nowhere). Just a thought.

    • @erikalifevlogs
      @erikalifevlogs  Před 4 lety +3

      I won't consolidate. I rather have quick wins to stay motivated then see a huge loan slowly being chipped away. Something about seeing my credit cards go away makes me have even more determination of getting out of debt. its just a personal preference

    • @TinysBeauty
      @TinysBeauty Před 4 lety +7

      I totally agree! One thing that really helped my credit and lowering my debt was making the minimum plus $15 to $20 depending on the interest of the card. Making the minimum payment on any debt will end up cost you more.

    • @edawg792
      @edawg792 Před 4 lety +13

      Just pay off the whole balance! Or as much as you feasibly can to erase that debt ASAP. You shouldn’t pay for things with a credit card unless you can pay off the balance in full every month - you just become a cash cow for the bank and also hurt your credit.

    • @TinysBeauty
      @TinysBeauty Před 4 lety +1

      edawg792 if you don’t wait for it to reflect on your statement it won’t increase you credit all that much.Healthy and bigger payments help with building credit faster, but as long as you kept it below 30% of overall balance/credit then its okay. Many people have to get some sort of credit to start off, which means often times not being able to pay it off all at once for the first month. Especially for no interest promotion!

    • @edawg792
      @edawg792 Před 4 lety +3

      If you get cable bill internet cell phone ect go pay these bills at the bank teller the bank will see these on time payments and will be less scared to give you a credit card someday. this trick will only work if these bills are always paid on time and earlier the Bills are paid the better it looks. When paying at the bank teller. After 6 months of doing this make appointment with an account manager and tell him or her just like how you pay your bills on time, you will pay your credit card on time. Or you could even have these bills automatically taken out of your bank account by the cable provider ect when due, this will also earn trust.

      If you haven’t I personally recommend you sign up for one ASAP! I recommend Discover it Secure or Student to my friends. I use it to pay gas and then pay it off every week on payday. Having good credit has saved me a few times, but really important saves at that.
