    I’m new to budgeting and have found it so frustrating. This is the first one I’ve seen that makes sense to me. It’s feb 2020 now and I started The baby steps in Jan 2020 and have saved my 1000$ and paid off a personal loan of 2,700. Single mom and working OT. No eating out and that has made a world of difference.

    I get wanting to give and be generous but when you have debt and a low income already I think it would be alright to not give until you are in a better financial spot in your life. $250 a month could go a long way in paying off debt.... just my opinion.

    I had a Happy Planner, switched to Erin Condren and wish I hadn't. You can't take the pages out of EC planners. I will be switching back to the Happy Planners in the New Year. • @yojs17_
      @yojs17_ Před 5 lety +1

      It takes practice to get your grocery budget down. I first start by meal planning. I first look in my fridge, freezer, and pantry and try to use whatever is in there first to plan meals. Then I look at the grocery sales pages. Then I meal plan. Then I make a list. When I first started this I would over spend because I would try to buy everything because it was on sale but then I figured that it didn't save me money and we would go over the budget. Now I just buy what we need. The first week of the month I spend the most and then as the weeks go buy I have less and less to buy. Its all about not wasting food. Now I freeze things before they go bad and then I use them in the future for meals.

      BuddhasNButterflies With Dave Ramsey’s plan you don’t save money beyond the $1000 emergency fund. All of your extra money goes towards paying off debt. Once your debts are paid off, then you build a higher emergency fund of 3-6 months of expenses. Technically, the money set aside for dining out should have gone towards debt payments. But, you need to do what works for you; it might take a bit longer to become debt free.

    When budgeting isn't it not stable to be left at 0 dollars at the end of the month? Is there any amount of money that could be put into savings? @AtHomeWithTori  Před 5 lety +1

      That's a really good question. I'm planning on making some follow up videos to this one but I've been sick this week. Yes, if you do not have debt then savings would be where you'd want to put any leftovers. At the time I made this we had reached our first baby step (Dave Ramsey lingo) which is saving up $1,000 emergency fund and we're working on baby step 2 which is paying off debt. If people are interested I can definitely do a video explaining this in more detail! 😊

    • @chryses005
      @chryses005 Před 5 lety +6

      There’s a baby step that Dave Ramsey devised and when you are in Debt, first thing you do (Baby Step 1) is have an emergency fund at $1000. Baby Step 2 is pay off your debt. Step 3 is a full funded emergency funds, step 4 is where you allocate some of your income to saving and then 5,6,7 so you live like no one else and give like no one else :).
      You are not left with $0 because when you have an emergency, you have the $1000 to back you up. If that makes sense.

Even Dave Ramsey’s Every Dollar app includes both tithing and saving and it’s a free budgeting app. I pray for the best for you. If you have student loans get rid of them as fast as you can. Interest from credit card debt and student loans is just pure evil. They will steal your life if you don’t get rid of them as soon as possible. Good luck and many blessings.

    Great that you are doing a budget and with a nice planner too :), but in my opinion, thite-ing at this stage with debt will only slow down your progress. Also allocating in maintenance when you have your emergency funds at $1000 is extra money you can pay off your debt, that’s an extra $372 towards credit card that you have. Other than that, keep at it!

      Thanks for your input. 😊 In our experience our faith is what sustains us more than our finances. There have been months where we were hundreds under our budget but God has always provided our needs and even our wants most of the time. We have always tithed no matter where we were financially and I don't see us stopping anytime soon. As for the maintenance, its more so for oil changes and yearly inspection and registration that I know will be coming up every year. If we had an issue with our cars it would come out of our emergency fund but I try not to touch it.

      @@dreamingofskyrim It's interesting that even though you edited your comment, your grammar is still terrible. Besides that, you making a direct, yet subjective statement about there being no God, reveals your true arrogance and ignorance. Imagine you knew half of everything there is to know (which you don't, but let's pretend). Out of all the knowledge in the Universe, you had half of it. Is it possible for God to exist in the other half of knowledge you don't know? Of course, it is very possible. Maybe you aren't as knowledgeable as you think. Hippocrates, the Father of modern medicine once said, "The more I learn, the less I know." That's a profound statement that I would recommend you considering before deciding to share your opinion on something.

      I have never had to deal with this particular situation. I believe what I would do is figure out what my absolute base income would be and make my initial budget around that. After receiving the income and knowing the exact amount for the pay period I would make adjustments as needed. You would never want to budget for more than what you might bring in though because then you might not have the money to cover all your expenses. I hope this helps answer your question.

Here is a link to the printable version of the notebook I have. You would have to get it printed and binded (if you wanted).
