Andrius and Gierdra, for people who have not built stone walls before, you are doing a great job. The wall is starting to look very good, and the string is set to help you see where the stones need to fit. That is going to be a great place for the kitchen! Such hard work and a real donkey would be helpful!

Oh believe me I get scared as well when Guffy runs around the tractor !!! we trying him to stop but he just so confident and loves chasing tractor !!!! Stones are heavy ... Andrius takes 20 min time off after he lifts one (Just joking :) )

Another hard-working few days. I watch a few utube channels but yours is by far the best. I not only watch the progress on your land and have a laugh at the same time. Thank you !!! last year shaded area was so different from NOT shaded on !!!! Sun is very hot and without the shade they are suffering :) we even measured temp .. under shade was 10 degrees cooler !!!

Watching the cat cling to the branch I was willing her to succeed. The wall is taking shape, it will be slow and hard but when finished you will be proud and confident in the building. Thanks fornsharing another video. Building that kitchen reminds me of building a medieval castle. They used similar techniques, especially the tripods, to lift and lay large stones as u guys are doing. I get anxious everytime i see Guffy go wild around the tractor, and when u use the tractor to move stones around. I really get anxious about that. I look forward to seeing ur dream kitchen finished. Hello from Florida, USA. I may have missed it but, where are the water and sewage pipes coming from or going to? It seems they should be underneath the floor, yet I don't see any holes through the wall you're building! You two are fantastic!! The fact you are taking Portuguese lessons shows your desire to be one with the people whose country you have moved to! You are the only channel I have seen that is doing this. One video a week is fine if it gives you both a time to rest!! Thank you for the enjoyment you bring every week.

I'm a big fan of traditional buildings but equally it's ok to combine the super modern with traditional, in my opinion. i think that does appear to be how the Portugese are doing it now. I've been curious as to why the one you are working on now is the kitchen rather than the bathroom, as it's good to have a bathroom next to your sleeping quarters, particularly as you get older. Your proposed blockwork building where the pool is might make a good kitchen? In any case, tough work - it's hard moving stones and laying them (I live in a stone cottage in the UK - the blocks are so heavy and building with them a real skill. You may want to check out Portugal from Scratch who works with natural materials.

retiring???? OMG ... I though I still got it !!! ;) Tripod didn't work when we tried to take stones from animal shelter ... it was falling .. we had to come up with different solution :) Oh My seedlings growing every day ... it's my LOVE what helps them grow ;)
I hope you asked about that tripod ..(the original .. number 1 for lifting stones ) we got 3 now !!! but them two which A made it was working perfectly !!!

I do like seeing two videos, but I know it's a lot of work. That wall is looking really good. I'm so afraid you are going to hurt your back though. I'm curious as to what kind of floor you are going to put in I'm guessing Wood but not sure. I am also wondering if you are going to cut a door in that big wall into the house from the kitchen. I don't remember if you already told us that. Keep up the good work but be careful.
Hello :) We won't be using wood .. it will be traditional red Portuguese tiles and we won't be cutting doors in that wall as we would of lose wall space in both sides of wall :)

I am, honestly, puzzled when you, already have that awesome STIHL stone cutting machine, why, for goodness sake don't bring all the stones to the cubes which would be easier to move around use less lime-sand mix and finally give you incredible and pleasing final appearance. You may use two or three cutting discs an probably 5 days to bring'em all to the size and shape but I think, would pay off at the end
I have to admit, it wouldn't be an easy job but you do that once and has to stay there for the rest of your lives
:) we do have square stones but we want to use them in a later stage as they will be easier to lift higher

For me it is a big mistake to build with only stone, firstly it takes a long time and secondly it is not earthquake safe
In my country Greece we have a lot of stone and build a lot with stone, but 90% of the time stone is only used inside or outside as decoration, you can use cement blocks for example, you build very quickly. Or like in my country so that you get a certificate House 12 R is earthquake safe, a complete frame made of concrete with iron, and only the holes are filled with thermal bricks, and then decorated with natural stone. We have hundreds of versions of stone, yellow, red, green, white marble, gray, white brown with small holes and small crystals, black stone, and hundreds of others, which are used as decoration, in the old years, a lot of sandstone was used, mainly in the villages, because they were easy to process, no longer in demand, they fell apart change with time
And my friend, what you're doing is lifting such big stones, you'll suffer later, I also built a house and did everything myself, now I'm suffering with my back and my legs, be careful

I have checked few advertisements in estate agency pages ( remax, idealista) and see what can they offer you .. and then just come here to PT for a week or two .. you need to see that you like the place !! Sometimes dreams and reality could be so different !! and I am talking from the best side :) hope it helps
