  • If you have ever wanted to power something using USB 5 volt power using the 9 volt power from your pedal power supply... this is the video for you. All you need is a simple step down converter. I bought this inexpensive 6-40 Volt to Duel USB Buck Converter (Adapter) from Amazon, two for around $11. In just a matter of minutes, I was able to power a pedal that only has USB power. It's DIY, but it works great and is not too much money.

Pretty cool deal with that converter. Thankfully both my Voodoo Lab power supply have 1 regular 120v power outlet on it. Thanks for the video and information for those who may not have that option.

That was really helpful as I was looking to power my iPhone with Bias FX2, a RIFF & Looptimus mini MIDI pedal (with a double USB & iPhone power adapter) on my acoustic board that also has a LR Baggs Voiceprint DI, an MXR Mini Boost. an Electo-Harmonix Voice Box & a JOYO Tuner. This is the solution I needed! Thank you.

What also works great, especially if you don't already own a power supply (or looking to upgrade) is the Cioks DC7. It also has a USB out to power USB stuff.

Thank you for the great info. I am building a pedalboard for doing pedal demos via headphones. And I am putting a small 4 channel headphone amp on the board that is powered by usb. If this works, it will be a perfect solution.

Nice video! I'm actually working on something similar for my Boss BC-60 pedal board/case. It's a good idea to have dual USB output ports in case you want to charge your cellphone during a gig. However, you should never put solder (tin) on wires going into screw terminals. Vibration and time those wires can come loose. Using raw wire or crimp ferrules is a much better approach. Old school people tin the wires but it has been tested over and over to be a bad idea.

Thank you Mr Russell, this has helped no end, believe this or not but through my uncle John Hume (God rest him, Nobel peace prize winner 1998 when it meant something) i am good friends with The Edge from U2, my 40th was a few weeks ago, few weeks before that I was made redundant, my family was in a rented house, I was informed by landlord that he sold our house, so had two months notice, my better half was suspiciously not bothered but I was not sleeping with worry, birthday arrives and first there was a courier with three big boxes, Edge and Morry bought me a bespoke Gibson explorer, vintage VOX echo amp, a big amp, foot peddles the works, then not an hour later this fancy car turns up and a man and a woman rock up to my gaff and I'm thinking "what's the bad news now" and it was the deeds to our house, got a text saying "happy 40th, this is a gift please do not offer to pay it back or it wouldn't be a gift, love Edge and Morliegh", they are our wee one's Godparents, incredible people and I'm blessed to have not only met them but have them as family, even our wee one calls him "Unkie Edgy", a truly humble star, more gifted on a guitar than he's given credit for, few years ago we was out on the town (Edge can handle his liquor and doesn't get hangovers the lucky w⚓😂), he played System of a Down, Slipknot, Beautiful People by Marlyn Manson, Welcome to the Jungle like Slash, a good friend of his I've met once, point is he's a bloody magician and he's sort of held back by U2's song structure, definitely minimalistic but when he wants to he can shred the axe no bother to him, really funny bloke too, only thing that winds up the zen master Edge is calling him "Dave" so if anyone sees him call him Dave and say Billy told you to.

I have a Fender Stratocaster no 3 made in the USA Serial no 129236 purchased in the 1960's. Was looking to see if its worth anything.

Do not solder the wires for a 'better' connection before putting them into the terminals. It is best to twist the wires (esp if they are a flexible type, with lots of strands). This method will clamp down better and give a better connection. (Before anyone tells me I don't know what I am talking about, I am a registered electrician with 30+ yrs experience)
