The occasional awkward moment is when Sir Paul is driving up that road on the way to the studio while fans are trying to recreate the crossing.

If your gonna criticize the terminology he uses describing something get it right, he never said sidewalk.

I went there for a lecture on the history of the studio. Held in the hallowed Studio 2 , you were even allowed to climb the stairs into the control room , photo opportunity galore.
As part of the show they got the original 4 (?) pianos used for the jarring final chord of “Day in the life” and picked four lucky punters to crash that chord together and to hear it ring out in the very place it was recorded and on the exact same instruments was a special thing indeed to hear.
You were only a few hundred yards away from McCartneys house on Cavendish Road.

    Also London:
Savile Row - iconic location of the Beatles rooftop concert in 1969; theres now a plaque commemorating it
Soho - (Referenced in Kinks' 'Lola') if you get to the backstreets, around Berwick Street there are a host of more independent shops. As well as couple record shops like Sister Ray & Reckless Records
Along the Southbank is a nice walk; crossing the Westminster Bridge from Parliament and then walking past the London Eye towards the National Theatre and Waterloo is a nice walk. Also areas such as Green Park and near Piccadilly; and the iconic Hyde Park close by as well.
If you time it right you could go to Westminster and see Extinction Rebellion protesting too
Another place that is quite bit away from the centre is Barnes. It is home to the Olympic Studios (which is now a luxury cinema) and across the road is a record shop specialising in Olympic recordings. It's also the place where Marc Bolan died in 1977.

No.3 Saville Row in London where the Beatles Apple headquarters used to be is now a store called Abercrombie & Fitch. As you walk through the entrance, there’s a small memorial to the Beatles which details when they purchased the building. Although it’s a clothes store, you can pick up the vibe of the place knowing that the Beatles were once here. One thing though, when I asked the female shop assistant whether I could go up on to the roof, she said an emphatic “no”! I think it’s due to health and safety concerns.

Hello there. Thank you for your video. I’m English and live a short distance from London these days. However, I’d like to share that I grew up with the Beatles. When I returned to seriously listen to their later music (ie Abbey Rd) as an 18 yr old... I simply didn’t realise that they’d moved on from twist and shout (we had that record at home). I was tripping on LSD one night in 1975 and cried as I was so moved by Here Comes the Sun King. Perhaps a silly anecdote but true.

Proud to say that I walked the crosswalk with 3 buddies in early August 1986. I decided to play the McCartney role and go barefoot. A couple of young Brazilian guys took our photo. Yes, we did hold up traffic a bit, and the drivers (bless them) seemed to grudgingly put up with it.

      L. Marc the zig zags were added to all UK zebra crossings in early 1970s to ensure that sight lines between drivers and pedestrians could not be blocked by parked vehicles.

Yeah the zigzag lines are kinda annoying and stand out a lot when comparing them to the OG cover, thats why I airbrushed them out of the photos I took from when I visited the crosswalk to get more of an authentic look lol

Paul McCartney's London home is a short walk from Abbey Road (in Cavendish Avenue). It's also worth going to Saville Row to see the building that was formerly the Apple Records HQ and where they performed the roof top concert in January 1969. There are of course dozens of other Beatles-related sights but they are among the most iconic. I walked the Abbey Road crossing in 2017 on the 50th anniversary of the release of Sgt Pepper. It was crowded!

  • @1KSarah

This is not the original crosswalk.
The intersection was rebuilt several years ago, and the crosswalk was moved a few meters away.
Traffic arrangements were more important than nostalgia.

Off the top of my head -
Manchester Sq - Home of the old EMI building in the NW corner of the square, lot's of promo pics taken around that time of The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd and Roy Harper as well as the cover of Please Please Me.
Montague Sq - Where Ringo Starr kept a flat in the late sixties, John & Yoko lived there for a while.
Marylebone Station and Boston Pl - featured in A Hard Day's Night quite a bit and mostly unchanged, magic Alex had Apple Electronics in a Mews House in Boston Place also.
