    What do you do when you get gaps between two shingles when butting them together? Doesn’t this just happen because they are not cut perfectly straight at the sides?
    It’s hard for me to see in these videos but they look perfectly butted up together.
    Do you just overlap them?

      @@charlierodgers2776 yes. Anything bigger than 2-3 bundles and you're gonna notice a burn out. Shingling is not a sprint. And anybody who has an efficient set up with some skill is gonna be faster than somebody going as fast as they can on the gun but walking around aimlessly twice the distance needed sometimes, going for coils every reload and moving shingles extra times no matter how hard they work. Just my opinion. Gatta be Efficient and pace yourself. It's like a marathon.

    Where the hell is your safety equipment? That is a three plus story DROP with one accidental trip
    Roofers think it’s funny or badass to not wear their rope so horror stories are important. I worked with this dude named “Mario” let’s say, Mario was new he was a brand new labourer with about 9 months experience and I had about 6 at the time, he was 30 switching careers with a new kid his wife just had and making good money labouring. Me and Mario were both told to go get goosenecks and vents by our shingler’s, when we got to the ladder Mario must have hit it to hard or just stepped unbalanced on the ladder and it gave out, reached my hand out to try to pull this 40+ foot ladder back to the roof but he was too far ahead of me. Ladder fell, Mario fell first, hit the ground shattered a part of his spine and broke so many bones in his shoulder and upper body, then the ladder fell. It crushed Mario’s thigh almost severing it off because it had fallen three stories behind him with that much momentum. He had to get his leg amputated and if we didn’t have another way down to stop the bleeding his artery would have kept bleeding dead in minutes. Before this happened it was a normal great day on the roof, weather was nice, wind was calm and the roof was gradual. Everything changed in an instant and we didn’t know what to do, since then I got my fall pro, Aerial platform, first aid, CPR and other courses but every single day first thing I do is hook up. You got people who love you don’t fuck around wear a rope

      And 100% on that "both need to get done" crap, chores we like to do teamwork but building walls it's much better to work on it one man per wall. I hate having a guy wrapping his hose up around mine and stealing my tools and like, most annoying thing ever. Me and the foreman can get it where we know each other good enough to chase each other around a wall without bumping tips

      yea thats why i said stuff like this. like if there's a pile of shingles on a tarp next to the dump and one guy works on that while the other walks around and picks up wrappers, not only is that a lil bit unfair but both jobs will get done in a faster total time if the guys were next to each other working rather than separate.

    So Zack I talked with a few local roofing company one refused the job due to my own materials the other wanted to charge a rate that would be equal to if the supplied material and then we talked about how long it would take to finish the job.i said mentioned you not by name but by speed and he said the quality would be low.i offered up your challenge now remind yourself this is one of those company with all fancy new trucks and vans contacted an out of state small company 1/4the price of big company your offer by far still the cheapest

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  Před 3 lety

      Not sure what you're getting at by mentioning me or the challenge. The challenge is just fun and for other shinglers to Guage themselves against other roofers to learn new to tips to improve efficiency. I totally understand the guy not wanting to roof when a homeowner bought materials. I don't even know how to charge for that and have never once had a good experience with others materials. Ice shield is brutal, shingles are cheap, not enough of a bunch of things etc. I'd probably charge extra to because honestly it's better to pass up the headache. But keep in mind shingles and everything have gone up and a lot of guys are raising labor prices as well. It's not uncommon to be at 400 or more per sq on a walker. Sorry about out of towners with the shiny trucks lol find somebody local and reputable with referrals and reviews on a Facebook page and you'll be good

      @@NWIVeteranConstruction ok school is in session for you, everyone who reads this that's a so "called roofer".
      So when you search "how many nails do you put in an architectural shingle?
      Four nails!!
      "Most shingle manufacturers recommend using 4 nails per shingle on the main area of your roof &5 nails per sq in the 1st row of roofing. This adds up to an average of 320 nails or 100 sq ft. If, if, you have high wind areas, you will want to use 5 nails per shingle, equating to about 400 per sq. .
      So if you have those pitfalls, why wouldn't you just install per shingle??
      That way your ass is covered if a tornado or straight line winds comes &rips shit off??
      Doesn't this make sense??
      Bro I live in southeastern Michigan & we get tons of wind often,&we don't fucking 5 nail nothing, if its installed correctly, no reason to deviate from what's on the wrapper bro. .#2 if your nailing pattern is not staggered correctly that 2nd nails going to leak live a sive. 5yrs down the road. .
