    Bo and Luke, nice job. The Korg Prologue is a classic in the making. Your presentation was top notch and a good walk-thru of many of the features. The pad sounds are smooth, the logistics of the board are straight forward, and the action of the keys very nice. Keep up the great work, gents! A drink to all of my friends. Skål!

    The way I like to explain filter tracking to people is that is allows the timbre to be more or less consistent between higher and lower notes. Without filter tracking, if the filter is closed somewhat then higher notes, which have more high frequency information, will be more affected by the filter. So it allows for a more natural sound like what you might naturally expect from a pitched instrument.

  • @PaulGBass

    I've got this synth, in 8 voice form. It's actually really good. I also have Rev 2, Peak, Deepmind and Minilogue, plus other digital ones and I really like the Prologue. It's good enough for me to not feel the urge to buy a Prophet 6 or OB6, though I will probably pick up the UB-Xa when it emerges.... Granted this synth only has one lfo and no aftertouch, but it does support an expression pedal and for 8 voice VCO polyphony it's the only game in town under £2k and it's £1k, yet it gets stick for supposedly being poor value for money... Go figure... To be fair, I found the generally more highly rated, but only DCO, REV-2 to be MORE limited by it's 8 voice polyphony than the Prologue 8, as all the really good sounding patches are stacked ones, giving you just 4 voices like Minilogue... I noticed voice stealing on the REV-2 8 voice, but not on the Prologue 8.

      JD-XA is in the same price range but it’s far more feature rich with its digital section that really can make gnawing lows and very smooth highs and Mids. If sound design is your priority, than the XD our classes the others. But it’s poorly documented and requires learning.

  • @lucianonotarfrancesco4443

    Regarding the filter key tracking of 0, 50% and 100%, what it actually does it multiply the cutoff frequency by a factor depending on the position of the key you press on the keyboard. Perhaps the easiest way to see how it works is with a self-oscillating filter: set the mix of the VCOs all the way down and set resonance all the way up. With keytracking at 0 all the keys produce the same pitch (determined by the cutoff knob); at 100% the frequency is multiplied by 2 when you go up an octave in the keyboard and divided by 2 when you go down an octave, so you get the standard equal temperament tuning or 12-TET; and at 50% the frequency is multiplied by 2 when you go up 2 octaves and divided by 2 when you go down 2 octaves, so you effectively get the 24-TET tuning (the pitch range of the familiar octave is actually spread over 24 keys, not 12 as usual, and that gives you quarter tones in between the standard notes). So, although the Prologue doesn't yet support microtuning, we can at least get 24-TET like this using the filter as oscillator.

    Dang, at 8:10 Luke and Bo are incorrect....you can choose which oscillator the lfo modulates in the program edit mode button 5(the options are ALL, VCO 1+2, VCO 2, Or Multi). This was a huge improvement over the OG Minilogue(which I own). I'm puzzled why Luke didn't say that? Also, hidden features.....so much cool stuff in Program Edit Bo, so much of the cool stuff with the Multi Engine is in Program Edit. Missed opportunity there.

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  Před 5 lety +1

      You are ofc correct! I noted this when I got home as the XD has the same option (I think its exactly the same, but can’t compare!). Multi engine we just went over however on the Minilogue XD video. But you are ofc right: a lot of stuff there.

    • @youvsyou945
      @youvsyou945 Před 5 lety +1

      @@BoBeats I'm glad they fixed that in the PL and XD.....it seems like the OG ML is the only one in the logue line that has this omission. I hope Korg sees fit to update the OG ML to have OSC targeting for the LFO. It's a good video though, thank you for putting it out(and thank Korg too). If Korg is listening, this may be a bigger request than the LFO OSC targeting on the OG Minilogue, but I hope they put the sustain and release parameters for the XD filter/pitch EG in the program edit settings in the future. This omission is really keeping me from purchasing the synth. Again, thank you for your video!

    I bought a Prologue from a UK/German store, it detuned, and Korg UK would NOT offer service support for a machine bought in UK but shipped from Germany. Nice. Had no option but to return the keyboard. Repurchased from a UK store, sent an obviously pre-used unit, returned. Sent a replacement without an outer shipping box, of course it was damaged, returned (and contained no manual). So still waiting a month after purchase. Not impressed. Still using my M1 though, bought new in ‘90.

    There is something strange about the prologue and Korg.
    A lot of time has passed from its launch, but still there is not a decent in depth review nor tutorial made by competent people in the entire YT (at least I haven't found it yet). Nothing comparable with the material avaible for the minilogue or the new minilogue XD...it seems that korg don't really want to sell this thing...(which, in my opinion, has been underestimated by many, including, just to make an example, the brave guys from Sonicstate)

    • @BoBeats

  • @HOLODECK-MUSIC-PROJECT
    @HOLODECK-MUSIC-PROJECT Před 5 lety +3

    The Prologue should be the flagship from Korg. But I must consider (iam own a P8) the features lags a lot. Not only there is only one lfo, his routing parameters are limited. No delay for it, only three destinations, only two parallel effects (instead the xd, though both has the same processor), no CV Ins, no step sequencer (like the cheaper XD), no microtuning, even like the XD.
    So I must confess that I have regretted the purchase.

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  Před 5 lety

      The XD is definitely my go to suggestion now. So feature packed

    • @robsanchezaus
      @robsanchezaus Před 5 lety +1

      Some of the 'shortcomings' you mention of the Prologue can be overcome by using hardware like a Digitakt or Digitone to give you an additional LFO, plus other modulation control. You can also send the Prologue output through either of those boxes for extra send effects.
      Or, if you use Ableton, you can use the Max for Live envelopes and LFO and have a crazy amount of modulation on it.
      Just look up the MIDI implementation chart, assign the CC value of your choice and voila.
      I use both of these techniques with various synths like the SE-02 and they would work well with the Prologue.

    • @lucianonotarfrancesco4443
      @lucianonotarfrancesco4443 Před 5 lety

      I feel you, I also have a Prologue 8 and I've been having exactly the same thoughts. I still have some hope for firmware updates, tho.... microtuning should be very easy to add, and I think simultaneous reverb and delay makes sense even with the current panel layout (the rev/del/off switch should be interpreted as selecting the effect that the time and depth knobs are currently assigned to, and should switch both effects off in the off position, and if you want for example only delay with no reverb you can just turn down completly the depth of the reverb). I wish the firmware was open source so we wouldn't depend on Korg good will to implement some improvements...

    • @RoomAtTheTopStudio
      @RoomAtTheTopStudio Před 5 lety +7

      @HOLODECK PROJECT maybe you should look at what your synth can do more than what it can't do. I could look at a DSI Rev2 and say it only has 2 DCO's and no custom oscillator to continually make new sounds with, it's complicated to understand and has a bit of menu diving, the on board effects are "meh" and generally just keep on digging on what it negative about it instead of looking at how to use it's strengths to create something fantastic. Yes I chose a Prologue 16 over a DSI Rev2 16 but I am quite happy with it. Personally I don't really understand the "let's look what it can't do," mentality as nothing positive comes out of it. "Let's see what I can create with these features," attitude can create wonderful outcomes even on a guitar with one string.

  • @TylerLore
    @TylerLore Před 5 lety

    As a live performer, a sequencer is something I would NEVER use on stage. That's what I use click tracks for. There's just a little too much risk of something going wrong live to use a sequencer in that way. I know there are those who would like the option, but i think some of those sacrifices is what keeps the price of this thing so low. I can see why Korg left it off their performance synth. The XD is definitely the device Korg wants people to use in a studio. You aren't going to use those thin keys in a live setting.

  • @nollidnagrom7976
    @nollidnagrom7976 Před 5 lety +1

    Sounds good but this synth really shit the bed, tons of manufacturing problems, no senqencer, korg wasn't ready to play with the big boys of anolouge so to speak, the pad sounds do sound nice but they could have done a lot more, it's a shame, korg only cares about coming in at the lowest price, if that's your business model then stick to low budget synths, why make a synth for the high budget market if your going to cut corners
