Sir Keir Starmer refuses to rule himself out of Labour leader race

  • The battle for control of the Labour Party began in earnest on Friday in the wake of Labour's worst defeat since 1935. Jeremy Corbyn has vowed to step down but stay on until his successor is chosen - to oversee a “process of reflection” whilst a leadership contest is organised.
    Some have blamed Brexit, others have blamed the heavy defeat to the Tories on Mr Corbyn himself. Labour's Ruth Smeeth called for Mr Corbyn to resign as she faced losing her seat in Stoke-on-Trent North on Thursday.
